Not much happening these days. Ct's CIAC yesterday finally canceled all spring HS sports the last state to do it.

Happy Birthday Willie Mays

5 things about him:

1.) Born in Alabama, he was taught the game by his father, who played in a local industrial team. He began his career in high school in 1947, playing for the Negro League team, the Birmingham Black Barons.

2.) His Major League debut was with the New York Giants in 1951, when he won Rookie of the Year and helped the Giants make it to the World Series.

3.) Mays was drafted and served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War for most of the 1952 season and all of 1953, missing 266 games.

4.) Upon his return in 1954, he won his first (of two) Most Valuable Player Awards, and played in the first of 19 consecutive All-Star games (he played in 24).

5.) In all, he won 12 Gold Gloves, hit 660 homeruns, had 3,283 career hits and may have been the finest all-around player the game has ever seen.

He was a great fielder, fast runner, could hit for average and power and, known as ‘The Say Hey Kid,’ was a fan favorite.

The KBO is on ESPN. I'm not interested, but some baseball fanatics might want to tune in.

Twas the greatest

They had some ocho stuff one weekend which was great.   Scandinavian bellyflops (Men's and women's - surprising number of thongs), and Slippery stair climbs were both pretty fantastic.  I also got into that downhill marble racing -the offroading variety.   Highly recommended.

It seems like a lot of sports could be taking advantage of this.  Couldn't golfers play in singles rather than pairs and have to carry their clubs (or cart).   Darts could play in their own basement.    I even feel like tennis could fly in the top 10 players, do a self-quarantine for a week with testing and then play a round-robin every day for 9 days.   Winner takes all.

I did think the NBA horse stuff was pretty weak but at least they tried something.   Why not a dunk contest on home rims?

This seems like an opportunity for some sports to gain more fans.   Instead, I'm watching old football and ball games to fill my jones

Without sports and large concerts as a distraction, the populace grows uneasy, which is troublesome for the PTB.
