Starlink destroying the Ozone layer

Forums:

Paraphrasing;

Between December 2024 and July 2025, more than 525 Starlinks burned up in the upper atmosphere during reentry. The fiery re-entry of even one Gen1 Starlink satellite produces about 30 kilograms of aluminum oxide vapor, a compound that erodes the ozone layer.

If the thunder don't get you the lightning will.

Woah.  Thanks for posting.

I questioned the 525, as I didn't immediately find a reference in that doc.  But a quick search found:

You can track Starlink satellite reentries using resources like The Aerospace Corporation.
Frequency:
It's estimated that several Starlink satellites, around 4-5 on average, reenter the atmosphere daily.

We got a thousand points of light
For the homeless man
We got a kinder, gentler
Machine-gun hand
We got department stores
And toilet paper
Got Styrofoam boxes
For the ozone layer
Got a man of the people
Says keep hope alive
Got fuel to burn
Got roads to drive

Seems legit, Mike.

doesn't any type of "space launch" do this?

apparently humans are hell bent on destroying this place and going to mars or some shit.

This was from Spaceweather.com

We're not going to destroy this place, we're going to destroy ourselves.

The Earth?

It will abide.

And laugh at the superior intellect.

And start again.

Honestly I thought we destroyed that thing with hairspray in the '80s
