Stephen Colbert Done This Week

I haven't watched much of late night talk shows, but I watched Dave Letterman on Colbert last week, and all of the shows this week, with love. I didn't know I'd be so moved by Colbert, and also by many of his guests.

Jill, those 3 links are to such valuable appearances and thoughts. I  loved Colbert's and his viewers contribution to Jose Andres/WCK, and their interplay. This link will take you to a video from last night:

This is a link to a moving article about him. As you know, religion does very little for me, but his spirit does.

Tonight's the last night.

"anyone have any thoughts about the death of the first amendment?"

They can't shut me up!

im extremely sad about whats happened to colbert as far as issues of free speech and govt overreach goes, but as someone who has been a longtime fan of the daily show going back to when stephen was a correspondent, who watched the very first episode of the colbert report when it aired for the very first time, and whose political consciousness as a young teenager was shaped by stewart and colbert more than perhaps anything or anyone else on this earth...i hope this means he will go on to do something that is actually good, funny and edgy again.

the late night show was total, neutered trash compared to the glory of the colbert report. i dont really care if the "stephen colbert" character from the colbert report comes back or not, i just want colbert with some BALLS and real jokes to come back.

I hate it when (most) things end, so despite the fact that I've never been a big fan of his show this is sad, especially because of the crap reason why it's ending.

But Colbert is too talented for that type of mushy network show anyway, IMO the more serious he is the better he is, so hopefully his next project will be something a little more journalistic and a little less showbizzy.

Ultimately, being a theater/venue junkie I'm more sad about that legendary theater going dark than the show going off the air. Hopefully it will be used for something worthwhile again.

So the right-woke snowflake cancel culture gets a win here. Good for them, but it could be just one more thing that comes back to bite them in the ass down the line.

These sure are strange times.

Maybe my favorite thing about that show was that he introduced me to Jon Batiste

that's a kind of an adorable argument to make, reflecting back this day about how he was "watered down, weak, or unfunny" in the previous CBS World considering now they are just propaganda for the regime

Yes the end of the patriarchy and the death of maga is the ugliest thing hopefully will ever see in our lifetime and it's not as ugly as it'll be yet. If we're all Lucky my daughter will perform in that theater one day

Paul McCartney was the perfect final guest.

I am just realizing how much I am going to miss the "Late Show."

I honestly think the show had run its course. Too much of the monologue had continually become about Trump, and for me it became a bit monotonous. I hate the guy as much anyone, but there's plenty of other stuff to satire and laugh at. Colbert is brilliant, and hopefully he'll now have the opportunity to shine in whatever new venture he's in.

The Daily Show is still on top of its game, but I fear it's time for Stewart to hang it up. This past Monday he spent 40 minutes rehashing the same old shit about Trump, showing 10 year old clips of the guy to make his points. It wasn't timely or news, just criticism and preaching to the choir. He then gave the worst interview I've ever seen, with a couple of economists who were fascinating. His questions were long-winded and forced his POV, and they had a hard time answering. The hour was literally 50 minutes of Stewart rehashing the same old rants. The rest of the week's shows remain edgy, hilarious and often brilliant.

The best interviewer on late night. Fallon's a phony buffoon and Kimmel doesn't have the intellect Colbert has. He's incredibly intelligent.

Sad to see him go, but I'll be getting more sleep after turning in after Kimmel's monologue.

I thought it was a very classy and joyous exit, and not one mention of the asshole on the last night. Maybe on Wednesday either.

Gonna go to the extended (48 minutes) You Tube version of Wednesday's show to see the full Colbert questionnaire he took. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iRvWlAGx7EM

Gonna miss Colbert. A nightly humorous reminder this is f**king ridiculous and we are not alone. But he'll be back sometime.

>>>so hopefully his next project will be something a little more journalistic

I'm in for the evening news with Colbert, Oliver, and Stewart.

Oh and seriously people cancel Paramount + even if you do it for a couple of months it sends a message.

cancel all of them. permanently.

I've lost my taste for political humor in the Trump era. It's gotten to be like variations on the same joke over and over again.

Colbert's a smart guy and will land on his feet. I hope he figures out a way to use his smarts to make a real difference in the world.

It's the Smothers Brothers all over again

>>>political humor in the Trump era. It's gotten to be like variations on the same joke over and over again<<<

That is a big part of the MAGA strategy. Certainly not a strategy Trump thought of because he's never thought of anything, but constantly deluging the public with endless, overwhelming daily nonsense saturates opposition response until valid criticism sounds repetitive and ultimately obsessive, allowing for ALL criticism to be labeled "Trump Derangement Syndrome" and disregarded.

It's brilliant in its evil way.

Of course Trump Derangement Syndrome does in fact exist, but it's actually a disorder that derives from the larger Liberal Derangement Syndrome, where people who are not complete morons or blatant racist, misogynistic, homophobic bastards but who are so controlled by their fear & loathing of all things/ANYthing considered "liberal" that they are totally blinded to the complete incompetence and evil of Trump/MAGA.

Sadly, there is no cure.

Colbert is done? NO WAY! Welcome to "Only In Monroe." ....with Jack White and Jeff Daniels.
