Doolittle, yes, that footage is from the Gong Family Unconvention at the Melkveg in 2006. Daevid Allen and company took over the building for a weekend. Lots of great stuff (Acid Mothers Gong, Hillage Band, Here and Now, Glissando Guitar Orchestra) capped by a set by the classic Gong lineup minus the first two drummers who had both passed during the previous year. That U Roy show must have been great - I caught a bunch of reggae shows there over the years, and the bands seemed to love playing there (no small wonder).
The first concert I attended was outdoors, daytime, a Day on the Green. The second concert I attended was indoors, ELO at the Cow Palace, January '77. Steve Hillage opened. We had 4 or 5 guys in our car and we were one ticket short, so we didn't go in until after Hillage had started. I have a vivid memory of entering the back of the floor, getting the full impact of the sound (more intense by far than in a football stadium!), and seeing Hillage in his long hair and flowing robes playing that space rock. I was surprised to recognize Hurdy Gurdy Man and It's All Too Much. I didn't know about Gong until a year or two later, when I first heard the album Gong - You. Still a favorite.
And another "thanks" for posting the links. Fun stuff! I wasn't aware Clive Bunker played drums with this band. Besides the Rock Palast show, he also played at the Rainbow. And now looking at Hillage's discography of the era, I see L has Utopia players Roger Powell, Kasim Sulton, and John Wilcox. And Green has one track with Nick Mason on drums. Who knew?!
