Stick Men anyone?

Forums:

Has anyone gone or is anyone going to Stick Men? Tony Levin, Pat Mastelotto and Markus Reuter.  Tony on the Chapman Stick, it will be a very jamming, out there night. I'm going in Columbus, Ohio on February 22.

I'll be at the show tonight, seen them many times, well worth the money and great guys!

My daughter is a big fan also and will be there tonight also

Tony and my daughter with a drawing Johanna made for him, featuring the spirit of John Wetton over head( John lived in our town for a while). Tony sent me a photo of it hanging in his studio next to an original Picasso.. proud dad moment

That's so dope

Awesome!

FYI here's a sneak peak at their summer tour, not announced by venues yet(except the camp) I'll be at Homer and 3 of a perfect pair shows . I'm really hoping that they announce some shows together with David Cross and his Larks Tongues tour that's coming up. I'll find out the likelihood of that tonight....

so we walked in to the show last night to find that the band's photographer and good friend of mine, Steve, had pulled our reservation from the guest list and set us up at the table right in front of the band. It was like having the band  playing a private show for us...My daughter was mesmerized the entire night and Pat kept making faces at her all night, calling her out at one point during the show for clapping perfect time during the intro/outro portion where he counts it out with the audience. Shes a musician already so knew exactly what he was talking about despite the odd time signature. She really gets this stuff...He couldn't wait to give her his sticks after the show.... Was quite likely the best Sticks show I've ever seen and they never fail to deliver in Rochester(Tony has deep connections here and it's like family night when they play) They brought back a few numbers that haven't been played the last few tours and fleshed out a few more. Bringing up Larks Tongues 2 to the opening slot was a solid choice(although I kinda missed Markus soundscape intro he did for a while). Prog Noir, Hide the Trees, Tentacles were particularly fleshed out and the Level Five/ Sheltering Sky executed perfectly...

a great night and already looking forward to July in Homer....

That picture is gold

Hi Ice Blue Rose!!! Just wanted to say you just saved my ass! Of course I'm always checking T Lev's website for concert dates, but they never seem to come to Pittsburgh. I've seen them in the Philly area before, and every time they come to Cleveland or Columbus it seems like a week night and I cant swing it with work... so out of curiosity I google "Stick Men Pittsburgh" to see if/when they have ever played the Burgh and what comes up? THEY'RE PLAYING HERE FRIDAY NIGHT!!! At a cool 100 year old church I've never heard of and didn't know they have shows there!! I don't know why its not on Tony's website, and I didn't hear anything about it on the various email outlets i'm subscribed to for shows. Thanks Ice Blue Rose! i'm so stoked!

fishcane your daughter is precious! She must be so fun to take to shows, maintaining odd rhythm is a true talent.

Judit - thanks for your love always, it's so special coming from you, I know Vern, Leper Van Atom, is smiling on us. I think of you every time I see John Hurlbut. I'm seeing him Sunday with Jorma, I'll try to post pictures for you, Jorma has been playing at his wife's boutique in Athens, Ohio and other special gigs, but he's not playing as much now. One day we'll catch Hurl together, hopefully with Jorma!

Dedhed - I'm glad I helped, I can't believe you're seeing Stick in an old church, how cool, the spirits will be keeping time.

I'm so excited for tonight, countdown begins!

Have a great show! Can't wait to hear your thoughts

Tony flashing the peace sign with my friend Barb and me.

What an amazing show! Columbus got a new tune, Voo Doo, it was their second time playing it. A nice melodic groove with crazy picking in between. Worth a listen. A real treat to see King Crimson and Robert Fripp tunes played, I rarely get a chance to see anything like that live. Fishcane I'm very impressed your daughter was able to keep up with that 3 to 2 and back again timing. I had recently partaken so it was more of a challenge for me, I made it forward but not back again, it was tricky and no one in our crowd made it all the way. Kudos to your daughter, once again what a cool kid! It also gives us an understanding of their music's difficulty.

It was special to hear Tony sing his poetry, I hope he does more of that in the future.

I bought the Tentacles album and had Tony, Markus and Pat sign it, treated myself for my birthday. Tony was telling me how he had his daughter strapped in a baby holder to his chest as he was recording Peter Gabriel's So album. She's 39 now. Pat, Markus and Tony were all so personable. They were really thankful for the crowd. It's crazy, the last time I saw Tony was September, 2023 with Peter Gabriel in Columbus with 15,000 other people, and here I was chatting with him about kids. Pat signed the album with a picture of a drum and sticks. He said that Phil Collins did that. He was at a gig that Phil Collins also played, someone asked him if he would sign a drum for charity. So Pat brought the drum to Phil Collins and asked him to sign it, very thoughtful.

Thanks Mike for teaching me how to upload pictures, I'm very thankful to you. It's hard on my computer but I finally got it.

Peace and love through music zoners!

Like Horatio said,

"i am always happy when a beautiful brain washing religious institution turns into a temple of arts and music. The vibe reminds me of Círculo de Arte de Toledo, a former church of inquisition in my current home base town where I had MoonJune Festival Toledo back in September. In Music & Arts We Trust."

Yes it was amazing! I've tried posting some pics but I think my work computer is blocking it.
