Night one was some deep cheese. Great mix of bluegrass and deep psychedelic. A little rain but nothing blew up.
Band was tight, crowd was happy.
Some highlights included Birdland, Orange Blossom Special, Valley of the Jig, Beautiful, Smile, Joyful Sound.

Thought the setlist was a combination of "heavy handed edm-esq" tunes + more sublime natural sounding tunes ... but the latter weren't the "firepower" tunes... which I imagine will be stacked on Sunday if they're sticking to the fan setlist. Setlist wasn't my favorite flavor overall, but thought they did "heavy handed" extremely well.

"Djibouti Bump"?
"Djibouti Bump"?
Never heard this song but it reminded me of something...
If you were to go dancing in the capital of the country of Djibouti,
you'd be shakin' yer booty in Djibouti, Djibouti.
Mic drop. I'll be here all week.

It definitely got heavy in the second set. Lot of bass for sure. Makes the young people happy. Guy next to us was a double virgin. First time SCI and first time at Red Rocks.
He was amazed all the way around.

Not really a fan, but I think
Not really a fan, but I think it's great that they've kept on chooglin' and continue on at such a high level.
First time I saw them was on NYE '96 or '97, somewhere around there, when they were playing in the ratty old Kesar Pavilion at the foot of Haight Street in Golden Gate Park, on a bill with Mother Hips & Leftover Salmon.
I'd never heard of String Cheese Incident that night and was expecting an acoustic bluegrass type deal but they rocked it hard and Vince Welnick sat in for a few GD songs and I left impressed.
I saw them a few more times after that, each slightly waning in my personal view, but that's just me, so again, good for them.
Keep on rockin' in the free world!

Last night rocked. I can't piece the set list together but Todd Mohr from Big Head Todd came out and joined them and an amazing jam developed. Very cool music throughout the second set. An idea would be played, everyone agrees to pursue it and soon, BAM, a new monster jam emerges to lead to the next tune. Some highlights : Mission Impossible theme, Desert Dawn, Hot 'Lanta, Colorado Bluebird Sky, How Mountain Girls can Love.
Show was sold out but never felt crowded.
Weather was perfect.
I'm a lucky hippie.

Finishing up the Cheese
Finishing up the Cheese report. Mellow scene last night.
Grant Farm opened. Tyler Grant is a great player and I really liked their song writing. He played a beautiful solo on the BEW encore.
There was also a brief String Cheese Dusters incident for the first encore. Black Clouds.
The set list.
