Sturgill @ TXR 10/1

One of the best live sets of music I have seen in the last few years.  $75

Support bands that play other songs than FOTD.

Was the best band by far at outlaw   Loved them

It was probably the worst phil show I have ever seen

He screwed The pooch by having an unrehearsed no name band with last minute substitute AND fucking Jacky boy

And I literally thought that willie was going to die on stage

GTTS

i guess people want to hear friend of the devil again.

You coming back up for that?

I've seen Jesus play with flames in a lake of fire that I was standing in

Met the devil in Seattle and spent 9 months inside the lion's den
Met Buddha yet another time and he showed me a glowing light within
But I swear that God is there every time I glare in the eyes of my best friend
Says my son it's all been done and someday your gonna wake up old and gray
So go and try to have some fun showing warmth to everyone
You meet and greet and cheat along the way

There's a gateway in our mind that leads somewhere out there beyond this plane
Where reptile aliens made of light cut you open and pull out all your pain
Tell me how you make illegal something that we all make in our brain
Some say you might go crazy but then again it might make you go sane

Every time I take a look inside inside that old and fabled book
I'm blinded and reminded of the pain caused by some old man in the sky
Marijuana, LSD, Psilocybin, and DMT
They all changed the way I see
But love's the only thing that ever saved my life

So don't waste your mind on nursery rhymes
Or fairy tales of blood and wine
It's turtles all the way down the line
So to each their own til' we go home
To other realms our souls must roam
To and through the myth that we all call space and time

not sure markd, prob not but considering.

he's doing the troubadour also and i've never actually been there.

i do not enjoy phil's bar and grille much when it's packed.

Anybody get tickets? Another frustrating morning here.

Spoke too soon. Persistence pays off!

fuck!

got busy at work and spaced. troubadour sold out. txr still avail, not gonna go up for it tho.

Failed at both shows

got a ticket in cart then phhhhht!

TXR tickets still showing up...

i signed up for an alert and got nothing....

I just got a pair of tickets for TXR.

How do u olds feel about the new album?

I’ve loved the guys work so far but not sure if I really dig this one; maybe I need to see the corresponding anime to put it into context, lol.

the last song is pretty kick ass.

I’m sure all the new material will come off a lot better live and should b pretty damn powerful in a small room.

Interesting. Sounds a little overproduced but as you said I’m sure it will translate better live. I’m only halfway thru right now.

Feeling half isbell half pink floyd here. Where’s the telecasters?

this could be good music to drive to.

I'm listening now and it's definitely different. I agree it is over produced and certainly not like his country offerings. It has kind of an 80s sound to me......that said, I still think it will rock in a small room with a hot band.

The synth is a bit much.....

He's gonna crush that room.

Go if you can.

Watching the Netflix thing right now, it’s just full length music videos for the entire album.

it’s kinda rad and kinda awkward.

not sure if i’d rather see a live band perform it, just screen this in a theater, do both, or do neither.

i certainly don’t hate it, not sure how much I like yet it though

i agree there is a fair amount of 80’s influence and it would b decent driving music

props for going outside of his box, I guess

I love Sturgill and TXR

wish I was there, Maybe a Stream-a-ling-a-ding ? Fingers crossed

I'll be there.  Scoring tickets took an hour of clicking and refreshing the page even when it said it was sold out.  The site crashed and threw error messages several times.

Didn't he say that he was only going to put out like 5 albums out nd then call it a day?

Sound & Fury is going to take a lot of listening to decide if its good or great. I like the sonic mess on the final track, Fastest Horse In Town.

He did the theme song for "The Dead Don't Die."

I hadn't listened to Sturgill in a while and didn't know his lead guitarist left the group last year. Too bad, that dude was a badass and the secret weapon of that band. Looks like Sturgill is handling lead duties now? How's his chops?

It'd be pretty awesome if Phil showed up. Sturgill likes drugs so you'd have to assume he likes the Dead.

Check out the old Sunday valley videos on YouTube if you want to hear his leads

his lead guitarist left the group last year.

The Russian dude? Too bad, he was good!

Estonian is the preferred nomenclature Woz smiley

Looks like he's left Sturgill on his own accord but is bouncing around with other small-time bands. Interesting decision to leave.

His lead chops are actually fucking good. He smoked the Hollywood bowl.

Estonian, got it!

Sturgill was awesome last night. The new material was OK......much better live but it paled in comparison to Sturgill's classic tunes that filled out the hour and change that followed the new material. Sturgill's guitar chops were great and I loved the show.

Phil was sitting at the SBD looking good and seemingly enjoying the proceedings. Good to see him out and about!

Now quite the review I would give it.  That's twice now I have seen Sturgill Simpson with sound problems.  At the Fox his guitar was cutting off and he was getting frustrated.   At Terrapin the mics were too hot and it made most of his singing unintelligible .  I enjoyed the show otherwise, but there could have been a much better sound.  The keyboards could have been turned down some  too.  Drummer was on point as well as the bassist providing lots of energy and a solid beat.

it made most of his singing unintelligible

I've never found his singing intelligible at any of his gigs LOL. Agree the mics were hot though.

I looked this one up, I dig this tune. I may have to give the rest of the album a listen.

The new album/anime r growing on me.

Bet the final album will b glorious.

i’ve heard that he often has sound problems, shame.

he sounded pretty good at hardlystrictly that one year and I thought the show I saw at a theater after the last album came out with that big band was great!

yeah the new stuff not quite up my alley. its ok but have only heard a couple of tracks.

i've seen him twice. the 1st time i thought the sound sucked. and yeah, his vocals often are garbled....

the 2nd time was at the hollwood bowl and his sound was the cleanest, LOUDEST sound i have EVER heard in that venue. he absolutely blew it up.

ps. saw paul cauthen in a tiny la club last night for $12 and damn boy-howdy that dude's got some pipes....

Damnit, turtle!

quit being a poser sturgill fan and do hard drugs to his Netflix anime right now!
