Stusday in Redwood City tomorrow

Forums:

Over the past few years I have developed a good appreciation for Stu Allen, and have seen him in many configurations. I think he's at his best when he's playing with Phil, which isn't surprising since so often improv based players will play to the level of the players around them.

Phil being such a bottomless well of inspired musical ideas he's musically fed his bandmates for over 50 years, and he still gets the most out of just about everyone he plays with. With Stu being the regular lead guitar in the 30 "year band" shows Phil has done the past couple of years he & Stu have developed a very good rapport and I've been impressed with Stu's playing more & more.

When I've seen him with his own groups I've enjoyed those shows to varying degrees, but Berkeley or San Rafael is a long haul for me for a normal Stu show, especially on a Tuesday or Wednesday night, and he's not playing with any legendary players in his own bands so I pass on those.

This week however I discover that he's playing tomorrow night with his Mars Hotel group on my side of the Bay, at the awesome little room Club Fox (used to be called the Little Fox) in Redwood City.

It's an easy 20 minute drive from the south bay for me and I love that room so I'm planning on checking it out, looking forward to some electric guitar jamming in a cool little club.

Hippies on the Peninsula!

Or at least a few 21st century spinners.

Far out.

Enjoy yourself, Lance!

If last Friday night's Mars Hotel Show is any indication, Tuesday ought to be killer.

20 mins from san ho-zay to redneck city?

fat chance, baby

I'll be coming from Cupertino and I'll skip the opening band.

Could be 20 minutes, 30 at worst.

>>>Just go to the &&*^*&%^&%$  show<<<

Now it looks like I'm not gonna' make it.

Poop.

Hopefully it does well enough that they book him there again.

Lance u fn loser

no excuses

A sick mom isn't an excuse.

Just a bummer.

Whoop it up!

i was there, and the turnout was great for a tuesday night on the peninsula. the opening act, billed as "acoustically speaking" was none other than the extremely talented Mik Bondy, of The Garcia Project with his female background singer.

Acoustically Speaking played an acoustic set (hence the name) of various Dead/Garcia tunes-Dark Hollow, Bird Song, He Ain't Give You None, Catfish John, Sitting Here in Limbo, Cosmic Charlie and a rollicking version of Mystery Train with Stu sitting in on Guitar.

Stu's Mars Hotel set was rocking, opening with a nice Mississippi Half Step, Minglewood, Brown eyed woman, Deal 2nd set-scarlet>fire then i went home as it was 1130 on a tuesday night.

good stuff
