I mean you could go on buying spree and stock up on essentials that won't go bad, but the problem is he could reverse it all next week. I always look for the grift with this guy and this could just be a way to drive the stock market down let his family know when he is going to reverse them so they can buy low and profit. 

The only thoughts I have is we have an insane person as President and 47% of America still supports him at this point.

Please explain to me, a person with very little, very, very little, money, how anything you see is going to be good for all of us. Like the regular people who never worked for lots of money. My financial situation will be a little worse because my IRA will have less money it so won't last as long. I'm not freaked out for me, I'm freaked out for all of the people trying to exist at the whim of someone who doesn't care, and is orange. I'm old, I've owned my house for a long time, and I don't live beyond my means, as long as my Social Security payments are intact.

So I'm freaked out for all of the people who have to work but are not going to have jobs, or medical care or food. For Vets, and everyone else we should be making sure is doing okay.

I've been watching my 403(b) falling, but based on my completely uneducated opinion I'm not particularly worried right now.

I believe Trump isn't going to let everything completely fall apart. He's purposely creating chaos and panic while acting like the big tough guy, and right when it's all crumbling he'll pull back the tariffs, things will settle down and he'll claim victory, his base will yowl that he saved the day and made the world bow to his greatness and he will present himself as our great hero by simply cleaning up the mess that he created.

I hope your vision is possible, Lance. But it looks like manufacturers facilities will close, less will be made or imported, everything will cost more, people will have difficulty buying food, paying for medicine, stuff like that, and after that it will take a lot time to open those factories, start things up, etc. I'm a cynical optimist, but myg optimism is waning and my cynicism is growing.

Yeah, that's great if you're not trying to retire or cash out like many in the older generations.  This one is driven by a single individual and not external issues.  If you look at history there have been three times major tarriffs have been levied and each has led to a major recession -except for this one....yet.   America alone is a stupid approach. 

And while this thread may be about tarrifs, both my neighbors have lost their jobs due to this goon.   Nothing like having twin one year olds with your savings being depleted and no job.  

I do think there is a lot of government inefficiency and I do support trimming the fat, but this approach in nonsensical.   

Might almost be a good time to start buying actually.

I'm sure Repub senators are getting some pissy calls from their donors this morning.  

There has been some speculation that the plan is to tank the markets and then the rich folks can buy in way low and reap their rewards later when the markets recover.

Re: Tariffs, I only just this morning thought about a large nearby family owned/run store, Sunrise Asian Market. Selling probably 100% imports from Asian countries, and Indonesia and others + a little U.S produced fresh produce. Yikes!

Yeah this isn't over by a long shot. I'm waiting for China to blockade Taiwan. Apparently what made him back down was the sell off in the bond market. If that continues we are looking at 2008 level financial market meltdown. America was the safe haven for the worlds money, but no more. 

When you add the increase in interest payments that the government will have to pay on our debt to the fact that Trump has fired pretty much anyone who works in tax enforcement including the entire division in the DOJ. Taxes under Trump are on the honor system now. We are going to see the biggest deficits ever.
