I think this is a textbook example of how some people are so indoctrinated into the drug war hysteria that on occasion they unwittingly expose themselves as completely brainwashed, I've seen it up close and personal, you can tell by the look in their eyes that they believe the propaganda, it's a belief system to them, their worldview is significantly shaped by the prohibition narrative.

This was a dog whistle to the kKK crowd Steve in case you didn't hear it. They are now a GOP voting bloc that won't ever leave Trump no matter what. I wonder why. Ted Cruz (R) is courting them.

It’s a racist dog whistle for the GOP voters. I mean if police can’t enter an innocent black man’s apartment without a warrant and shoot him dead whitey  should be afraid. The troll will not deflect and blame Hillary or Obama

I agree with this statement. Good luck getting off the Russian troll farm Bryen.

Good luck in your endeavors Nugs, enjoy the day!  Have you had dinner at the Long Life Vegi House at the top of University Avenue?

for your consideration...

Ron Paul - War on Drugs a "Complete Failure"

Fuck Ted Cruz

It was a disgusting tweet, certainly a window into his distorted thought process.

If Cruz loses, who's gonna give him a cushy job?  Other former pols have friends.

He is married to a Goldman-Sachs investment banker....

War on drugs is a failure but the GOP showers police with more money and equipment every chance it gets. Gotta bribe them socialist cops and firefighters to keep them in the fold.

No on the vegi house Bryen. More of a Ike's, Southie, top dog & poutine kinda guy if in Bezerkly.

The cool thing about Long Life Vegi House was if Jerry was playing the Warfield, or if the Grateful Dead were at the Coliseum the place was wall to wall old school Grateful Dead Family, it was quite the scene!  I'd often take the BART to Berkeley just to eat at Long Life, it was and I'm sure still is the very best...enjoy the eucalyptus in the air!  In more recent times I like drinking pints at Jupiter!  Breakfast at Rick & Ann's across from the Claremont is nice!

.>>>>>enjoy the eucalyptus in the air

When I smell eucalyptus I think wildfires and invasive species.

Believing the propaganda goes both ways. Dog whistle! Dog whistle! Racist! Racist!

Be afraid! The brown immigrants are coming for your Medicare!!!!

Anyone denying that the GOP agenda and the Trump regime isn’t racist is full of shit, or as Trump says, ‘very fine prople’

Everyone in this town is gaga for Beto.

hounder and Bryen:  I agree with you both (I think) - Ted Cruz is most likely more focused on Beto's apparent claim that the possession of a small amount of marijuana does not justify being killed by a police officer who trespassed into his home.

This seems to fit more into Cruz's narrative that Beto is trying to turn Texas into California.  (see "If Beto wins, there will be no more barbeque!")

What matters to Ted Cruz? Whatever is going to turn out his base on Election Day. His campaign has consistently relied on lowest common denominator tactics.

Last week, in a move that must have taken serious study of the nastiest polling data they could get their hands on, the Cruz campaign released a video of O’Rourke speaking about the death of Botham Jean at the hands of a Dallas police officer. In the clip, O’Rourke’s words are impassioned but not histrionic. His demand that law enforcement officers be held to account for their actions (just as any other citizen would be) is pointed, but never goes beyond what any reasonable Texan might say.

To whom is the challenger speaking? The congregation of an African American church, which responds in agreement, standing and affirming the speaker’s words. This is a community for whom the death of Jean is not conceptual, but an all-too-real possibility. For some, a life-shattering reality.

Look more closely, though. Cruz’s camp does nothing by accident. Why post this video, in this place, about this topic? O’Rourke stands on the stage demanding equal justice before the law for all, and that all Americans should be able to peacefully reside in their homes without fear of winding up shot to death. In this assertion of justice and liberty, the Cruz campaign sees a chance to attack O’Rourke as a supposed weak-on-crime lefty liberal.

What did Cruz impart to his supporters and viewers? That O’Rourke is for them — not for you. Given Cruz’s inability and unwillingness to reach across the aisle, for any reason, he must continually provide inputs for his most MAGA-esque voters. This is your state. This is your country. Don’t let them take it away.

Cruz has no other strategy beyond dividing Texans in order to conquer them, and no compunction about employing it. The end justifies any means. Saul Alinsky would be proud.

Texas is too big, too diverse and too great a state to be the continual launching pad for a senator who, six years into office, can boast of no major accomplishment other than having exactly one friend: Utah Republican Mike Lee.
