Dipped in Opium?!

No it wasn't.  That is a myth.

mmm. some of my best (if fuzzy) memories of freshman year included Thai stick. Don't think I ever saw any again after '79.

im almost positive that 99% of people who reminisce and wax poetic about thai sticks are blinded by nostalgia, and if they smoked it today, alongside the good weed of today, they wouldnt even take a second hit.

like quaaludes...it was great in the 70's, now we have widespread availability of good drugs, and despite quaaludes just feeling like glorified benzos, they have attained a mythic status amongst drug enthusiasts and collectors - because it is extremely rare today and the only stories most of us younger folks have to go on are 40+ years old and chock full of nostalgia.

Not so, Larry. Thai Stick was a potent cup of tea in its day. True, it hasn’t been seen in decades but I have no reason to embellish or exaggerate about the potency ofvthose little sticks. I vividly recall puffing one between sets at my first Dead show 8/04/76 Roosevelt Stadium in Jersey City. As Quinn the Eskimo suggests, the memory may be a bit fuzzy, but I do recall “melting into the blanket “ at that show during Help>Slip>Franklin’s. Very Dreamy...

I rest my case.

Agreed, Dj. If I could find or buy some "Thai Stick" or "Columbian Gold" that I puffed in the 70's at a dispensary, I'd be happy. It was as good or better than most "Top Shelf" we see today. I don't know why.

I totally agree with DJ Easy Wind and Rusty. Both the Thai Stick and Columbian Gold were great. I prefer knowing that there are no toxic chemicals on what I'm smoking these days, which I couldn't in the '60s and '70s, but I would make an exception for those two.

Best In Show -----

Nepalese Temple Balls

Your list is noticeably incomplete,

Panama Red was some unforgettable ceremonial stumble bum mind fuck.

Damm there was some great shit in the day.

Early eightys in SOCAL when the skunk was not available loose thai at an inexpensive price

Was not a bad exception. One long stick/stem of scraggly buds folded over and stuffed into a  baggie.

Tasted like molasses and cough you get off.

Thai stem not stick.

70s got the stick right off the B-52s from the Security Police barracks at the local air force base.

I Most Certainly Got Dipped Sticks In 1977 - 1980. STRONG As Hell.

The first images of the sticks are exactly the way I remember.

I do not remember the gold(#15 in that 1978 High Times image) being as scraggly . I recall tight cleaner buds that exploded when pinched Lots o' striped seeds.

I would bet a dollar Escobar smoked the golden sinsemilla.

I am sure there were some sinsemilla somewhere.

the reason they are not grown today is they require very long growing seasons and get really large.

there are companies doing the seeds of the mexi's....have not gotten to sample.

One thing I'm not nostalgic about is the wet ditch weed that came in plastic garbage bags from Kansas. People tried to sell it, don't know if anyone ever bought.

We picked it in Bonner springs....
