Thailand Soccer Team Trapped In Cave

Forums:

Anyone else following this story?  It appears that barring the discovery of a passage that allows the rescuers access from above, their options are to either have them attempt to scuba dive out (with the boys all novice divers, and with a trained diver having already died doing this dive) or to have the team wait it out until the monsoon season ends in October and the cave drains out.

They have been promised tickets to the World Cup Final, July 15th in Moscow, by FIFA if they are out by then.

The FIFA offer is very Trump.

following closely

think the coach is out of a job?

Whoops wrong soccer thread

>>>>>the boys all novice divers,

It's my understanding that they can't even swim.

yeah I heard some can swim a little, most could swim none.

A thai navy seal died the other day during a dive there so it appears like a dangerous move god bless em all.

I heard terrible news last night...the reason they are trying to get oxygen in is obvious, BUT if monsoons kick in today or tmrw as expected....it could delay rescue efforts up to a month...

Prayers indeed

Elon Musk is building some tiny submarines to get them out no shit

Everybody be cool. Gen X is about to science the shit outta this thing, and rescue these children.

Solving complicated problems is what we do. Watch & learn.

I opened up several old lode mines already this year, went spelunking underground.  I've also cave dived off the Bahamas 40 years ago, where you had to remove your tank to get through the tight sections, while 80 feet below the surface.  Very doable, but takes training and wits ( a million things can go wrong, only one way to go right, you survive the experience).  That's what these kids will most like have to do.  Crawl through tight spaces underwater while dragging the scuba tanks...  pretty dark down there too!

Personally I like those James Bond style scuba scooters...  if only they could fit...

Good Luck to those kids and rescue people.

I wonder what they have been eating and drinking the whole time.  Maybe there are Cave Clams & Fish.

Must have been very foresightful to bring enough clean water,  Food & Flashlights w/ extra batteries.

one guy already died solving this problem was that part of the plan

There's also septic issues to consider....

The rescue has begun, they are going with the risky plan to swim the kids out with diving gear.  Two divers per kid, leading them out the way they got in, trying to beat the rains. Hoping for a safe and successful outcome!

Great feedback folks, thanks!

Those pods sound like they could work, Dise.  Nice job, Arcata.

((((kids, coach, divers, families))))

this was making the rounds in the twitterverse

Haha those stupid kids are tougher than Neymar

Well so much for drilling and pulling these kids up Chilean miner style.

Say a prayer

2 are out!!

YAY!!!

Sounds like 3 boys are out now!

Maybe should leave the coach down there?

J/k, but he got some serious splainin' to do.

>>one guy already died solving this problem was that part of the plan

The plan is a troll plan

Why can't they get the rest of the kids out now? There is no day or night in a cave and this isn't a union job.

They have to replenish the oxygen tanks.

It looks just like that Brady Bunch multi-episode special from Hawaii

Replenish oxygen tanks?

Who's in charge of the oxygen tank supply?

You're Fired!

No full oxygen tanks and it's raining cats and dogs.

Impressive they have four out already.   Great news.

I feel for the coach, thinks he's being cool taking the kids into a cave and the next thing you know millions of dollars are spent on a rescue mission, one person dead, farms flooded from pumping out the mine.   Even if he makes it out, gotta think his suicide change just went up with the burden he has to carry.   The guilt alone should be enough punshiment.   Wonder what kind of trouble he's set himself up for.

In other news, this made me google baby Jessica.    She's all grown with a family.

How do they not have 100 extra full oxygen tanks on site?

From what I understand it is a tradition for all local soccer teams to go down and sign their names in the cave. The rains came early and trapped them.

Musk better get a couple of those things built, pronto. The round-trip to the cavern is it 10 - 11 hours. Let’s say he gets on built and to th site by Wednesday, it’ll still be another week and a half before they are all out.

>>>How do they not have 100 extra full oxygen tanks on site?

Agreed.  Although I read somewhere that there were 90 people in the cave.    If they all are using oxygen that could go pretty quick.

Word is they took the six strongest and most handsome out and the rest are going to have to kick it down there a few more months until the storm passes.

Could be worse. Get them playing that Fortnight shit down there and they won’t even realize that they are gone.

"Bucky Badger" as usual,  talks BS.  The media accounts claim they removed the weakest 4-5 kids first.

More fit kids extricated tomorrow or so.

That is what  the media says.

OH YOU GO AHEAD AND TRUST “THE MEDIA” THEN BRO

>>>>The media accounts claim they removed the weakest 4-5 kids first.

YOU GO AHEAD AND BELIEVE THEY TOOK HALF A KID OUT BRO, I KNOW PEOPLE FROM THIALAND THATS NOT HOW THEY ROLL. IT WOULD BE A WHOLE KID OR NONE.

I ain't yer 'BRO' and trust nothing.

Don't you fuck with me,  OK.

Giant Mutant Cartoon Lobster will settle your nonsense,  in moments.

confusion here.

4 strongest are out as reported hours ago.

rescue resumes tomorrow with replenished oxygen supply

>>>Don't you fuck with me,  OK.

lol sure thing washy

The air tanks are like climbing Mt Everest.

They are put at spots along the path so the divers can replenish along the way

These divers are like Sherpas putting in lines and setting up supply camps

Just taking one tank to the halfway point and bringing out the empty one is gonna take hours

One kid taken by helicopter.....that's not good.

>Just taking one tank to the halfway point and bringing out the empty one is gonna take hours

Yes it wasn't clear yesterday. It sounded as if they just had too few tanks. The reality is the tanks all have to be strategically placed along the route as barefoot boy explained. When I saw the oxygen issue yesterday my first thought was someone fucked up on a count.

3 more out....(7 total)

>>. When I saw the oxygen issue yesterday my first thought was someone fucked up on a count.

Well considering the situation yes.   If Oxygen is what is holding them up then it seems like they could get some airlifted in faster than waiting 12 hours to get them refilled.   Clearly I'm not there and the specifics are limited but it does seem like they could have a system that keeps this thing going on continuously until they all are out with two teams getting the boys out.

Heavier rains to start tomorrow doesn't bode well.

8th out.

As the kids are taken out of the cave they are rushed to a hospital that one entire floor is dedicated to them for observations. They are worried about air borne toxins.

Also their parents are not informed if it is their child or not. They want all parents to stay at the site and support one another.

They said it takes 5 hours to get from cave out.

I wonder if they can get the the rest out tomorrow or if they leave the coach in one more night.

Sounds like the extraction of today's 4 went faster than yesterday's as the rescue team gains more expertise and familiarity with the process.  Maybe they can get the last 5 out tomorrow, including the coach.  While some are questioning why he took his team in the cave so close to monsoon season, he should be commended for finding a safe space for the group to harbor while awaiting rescue, and for keeping the group from panicking.

Yes I’d imagine the parents of these children will all feel the coach should be commended for his actions and bravery. What a guy.

Has anyone heard how these kids entered a cave without any problem and then when they tried to get out it was not possible only a short time later?  Did it rain 6 inches in 1 hour while they were inside?

^ basically, yes...monsoons came, and they were already in for 6 or 7 days when found...i blv

Today is 17th day in

This is actually happening.  Not everyone in the world is an asshole.

Update from ESPN (of all places):

>>Narongsak said he was not sure if the remaining five people will be extracted in one or more operations.

>>Narongsak said earlier Monday that the healthiest boys were removed first.

>>Thai authorities said the parents of the four boys rescued Sunday are still being kept from physical contact with them due to fear of infections. Relatives were able to see them through a glass partition.

WE Will Wake Up In The Morning And ALL Will Have Been Rescued ! #MIRACLE Rejoice.

I wish the coverage was better.

I remember freaking out when rescuers pulled the Quecreek miners out one by one in that capsule in Somerset PA (2002). Screaming like a loon and drinking like a fish. Very emotional.

As a avid scuba diver, this scenario has been re connecting me to my many scuba friends from all over the world.Because of Bart 's medical conditions Its been 2 years since I have dove.

My many trips to Thailand,Myramar  (Andaman Sea),Monterey California,Channel Islands,Philippines -Puerto Galera,Jamaica (sad environment destruction), All the Cayman Islands but my most common/regular annual diving was Cozumel where I built very close friends friendship ''s with a few local divemaster s and boat captains. And one of my closest divemaster friends and I did Cave diving in the Yucatan for a few days.

Yes it was scary, difficult, very challenging......but I had complete trust in my divemaster who grew up near Tulum, knew the cave/cenote very well over twenty years, was very safety first.

The Yucatan Caves we did were not muddy....and it was still very scary and dark, even with a good dive light. You could not "just surface" . The other thing was it was freaky cold. And I'm a bit over weight,so that is a plus in cave diving.Plus with hundreds of different dives......still scared.Grown fairly mellow fat lady.

This experience for our young Thailand kids is remarkable. They have No Body Fat!

The coach, made intial poor decisions, perhaps did the very  best thing by teaching them medication and calm breathing!

And I am getting now my information from a inter connection of more  dive community over the world, not so much our homogenized media.

Our latest emails have been :5 more to Go!

Namaste and Viva!

No casualties.

Hope, experience, communication and Compassion Can Change what needs Our World to be a Loving Life.

All the boys and the coach are out!

>>>teaching them medication

A little young for self medication?   ;)

Good Stuff Zebra Chaser.   Is the doctor out too?

I bet there is some boozing tonight

1 doctor and 3 navy seals are still inside

Yeah, great news! But let's get the rescuers out, THEN the PARTY!

The world was watching and the Thai and international responders succeeded. Right on! Nice to see a "good news" story of this magnitude. Big smiles all around the world.

The last three Seals and the doctor attending the team are now out too.

Great work by the rescuers, and amazing bravery and fortitude displayed by the team.  Major kudos to the Seal who lost his life.  They should rename those caves after him.

>>They have been promised tickets to the World Cup Final, July 15th in Moscow, by FIFA if they are out by then.

So are they going?  That would be awesome!

>>>So are they going?

I've heard seven days in the hospital before anything so I doubt it but that would be incredible.

AMAZING NEWS!

Now's the appropriate time for your picture, Bucky.

They got them out in time for the semi finals

Ooops.....spelling bleep.

So grateful for this good news...

I can now go meditate.
