Thinking back to when Chris Robinson was Phil's lead vocalist

Forums:

IMO, Robinson is one of the best vocalists in rock. There was a lot of special songs on that tour.

I totally agree.  Phil's 70th at BGCC with Chris is a great example.
Stood next to Bill and Lori Walton all night at soundboard!
Just tried to find the show (2010?) on LMA, but there are no shows from that year posted.
Highlight for me was Chris singing Two Souls in Communion / The Stranger.

why on god's green earth was this lineup not rolled out on the west coast OR stayed together longer?

Phil's 70th at BGCC <<<

Pure Fire Show i was there and Hefty on the Legs Standing after Many Hours ! a great night Overall.

>>>Highlight for me was Chris singing Two Souls in Communion / The Stranger.

That is exactly what I was going to say when I read the first post. Also Jackie's Brokedown Palace was sweet that night.

Comes a time was sick too

long gig indeed. This was a real memorable show

in the building for something like 7 hours that night

The Bday show was epic. It lasted so long I had time to hear about two hours of music, leave the building and walk back to my hotel to refill my tequila flasks (I was hanging with a group of thirsty friends) get back to the venue and become involved in a strange little disturbance at the doors, then spend almost an hour hanging out in the box office talking with friends I used to work with, and I still got back to my group and heard over two hours more after all of that. I left the building that night thinking, "THAT was an old-school rock n' roll show!"

As for Robinson, I've never been a big fan, but he grew on me at TxR, when he was living close by and became a regular there. I saw some real good shows there with him & Phil, as well as many with his own groups.

He can still be a little "much" for me with Phil, but he's good on the rockers and he knows the material well.

I agree about the BGCC show and his vocal delivery was so full of heart and soul. I became more of a fan that night. (It wore off after a half dozen bar shows I saw around here) It's not something we see much of on any dead band stage in these times anywhere IMO. It's on autopilot for most of the musicians who do it and there is no shortage. The early Phil shows were really amazing.

Shadow of the Moon tour rocked. Larry and Barry, Molo, Mookie holding it down on keys, Phil thumping on the Modulus.

I absolutely love the December 2004 Warfield run.  Still have them on burned CDs with the official artwork.  Act I > Act II > Act III loosely translated to Birth > Life > Death themes if I remember correctly.  Brilliantly performed with so much thought put into it.  Parts of it still give me goosebumps.

The Warfield run was fresh. Stellar music, great crowd.

Really loved te Imagine that Jackie & Gloria sang from The Balcony. But my biggest highlight was also Two Souls. Even more so The Two Souls at his 70th .

That birthday show was great but really showed how much of a difference Molo being in the band makes.  Whole different (more powerful) show after he came out.
