I used to think that when this was all over
You might feel different about me
Yeah I always knew, one day you'd come around
Now I wonder if dreams are just dreams
Whoa oh whoa oh oh I'm having trouble
Letting you go
Baby look out your window, it's raining
On your summer home
You're by the fire keeping warm and dry
There's no one as honest as those in pain
Oh honey can't you see me? Will you
Let me inside?
(Chorus)
It's a restless world, uncertain times
You said hope was getting hard to find
But time rolls on, days go by
What about the broken ones?
What about the lonely ones?
Oh honey I'm having trouble letting you go
It's off in the distance, somewhere up the road
There's some easy answer for the tears you've cried
And it makes me uneasy, makes me feel different
Do you get scared when you close your eyes?
Petty's current condition is unknown. Multiple sources report that Petty has died, but this has not been confirmed. He was in critical condition when he was found.

I went to the 2nd Bridge School benefit show, in Oakland, December 1988. The performers were legendary, the show was great, and I came away with new respect for Tom Petty whom I'd only seen on TV.

He rocked BottleRock this year, you could tell he was having a great time too. Only saw him one other time, back in 1988 or early 89 in Rochester. Wish I had seen him more. What an icon
Bummed he's gone. He gave his live to the muse. Glad I got to see him. A great live act. Rockin' shows. I think he knew he was loved.
Celebrity Theatre in Phoenix in the late 70's early 80's.
Sneaked into a Jackson Browne/Tom Petty show during intermission in Utah a few years ago, and I played air guitar while people stared at the Super Bowl.
I have that McCabes show Turtle, great stuff. Seen these Florida boys many times. 1976 at the Bangor Auditorium, young kid in the second row...1986 saw multiple shows of the Dylan/Petty run, got some nice recordings....2006 (?) Bonnaroo, second row again. One of the great rockers. RIP TP.
Saw this a few years ago on cable, also available on Netflix.
Runnin' Down a Dream is a 2007 documentary film about Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers, directed by Peter Bogdanovich. The 4-hour documentary chronicles the history of the band, from its inception as Mudcrutch, right up to the 30th-anniversary concert in Petty's home town of Gainesville, Florida, on September 21, 2006, at the Stephen C. O'Connell Center, University of Florida. The film features interviews with George Harrison, Eddie Vedder, Stevie Nicks, Dave Grohl, Jeff Lynne, Rick Rubin, Johnny Depp, Jackson Browne and more. Petty's solo career is also touched on, as is his time with The Traveling Wilburys
I saw him a few times luckily. One that stands out was the day after Jerry Garcia passed away. The show was in SLC, he dedicated Learning to Fly to Jerry.
First saw him at the Spectrum in Philly sometime in July or August of 1980. Really tight band--much different than the GD in terms of how they presented their songs. Fortunate to see him live several times--with Dylan and the Dead and with the Heartbreakers. A talent and a vision. Frankly, he is also one of the best DJs ever as his Sirrus XM show was always thoroughly enjoyable--he was a real encycopedia of musical knowledge.
They had a re-broadcast of a 2006 Tom Petty interview on NPR's Fresh Air last night. Good stuff. I didn't know he retreated as a hermit into a run down cabin in the woods for a while in the late 1990s.
The man was one of those one of a kinds for sure. I also appreciate being able to see The Heartbreakers a couple of times. His Crazy Horse sort of like.

Sneaked into a Jackson Browne/Tom Petty show during intermission in Utah a few years ago, and I played air guitar while people stared at the Super Bowl.
Time to watch the "Running Down a Dream" DVD set.

First saw him at the Spectrum
First saw him at the Spectrum in Philly sometime in July or August of 1980. Really tight band--much different than the GD in terms of how they presented their songs. Fortunate to see him live several times--with Dylan and the Dead and with the Heartbreakers. A talent and a vision. Frankly, he is also one of the best DJs ever as his Sirrus XM show was always thoroughly enjoyable--he was a real encycopedia of musical knowledge.
RIP Brother
