A further tremendous loss to cosmic culture and literature. Rest in Peace, Left-Hander!

Author Tom Robbins, whose novels read like a hit of literary LSD, filled with fantastical characters, manic metaphors and counterculture whimsy, died Sunday. He was 92.
Robbins’ death was announced by his wife, Alexa Robbins, on Facebook. The post did not cite a cause.
“He was surrounded by his family and loyal pets. Throughout these difficult last chapters, he was brave, funny and sweet,” Alexa Robbins wrote. “He asked that people remember him by reading his books.”

I remember that I was in South Dakota when I finished Even Cowgirls Get The Blues, which seemed appropriate.
His works and John Nichols' New Mexico Trilogy shared a Magical Realism sensibility that profoundly influenced me.
Years later, one of my employees was renting out a room in a house Robbins had lived in here in Seattle's U-District. She showed me the wall-mounted pencil sharpener he had used while writing. At the time, it felt like it had an aura.

I read Still Life with Woodpecker back in the late 70s, and loved it, but then couldn't finish Even Cowgirls Get The Blues. Maybe it's time for me to revisit some Robbins.

Never smoked but almost started smoking Camels after reading Still Life with Woodpecker. Agree about Even Cow Girls Get the Blues, it was my least favorite. Try Jitterbug Perfume.
