Trey Anastasio Band

Forums:

Saw the Trey Band last night at the Edgefield.  Never seen them before and it was great.   Heavy on the Phish songs, but with horns and female voices.   Weather was perfect and the crowd was chill.  Felt sort of like a Jerry Garcia Band show with just a fraction of the crowd you would find at a Phish show and almost zero party animals and looky loos.  Instead, a fun, festive, family vibe with everyone there coming for the music and just soaking it up.

Great Review Ken.

Stoked on 10/8 at the Greek now. Anyone else hitting this one up?  Last show of the TAB tour as well ;-)

I am going on 10/6 in San Diego. It was quite refreshing to get a good seat for $55. This will be my first time seeing TAB .

TAB > Phish imho

Glad you had a good time.  So, was it a "slinky" Moma Dance version?

Incredible band who brings it every single show!! Vibe, feeling and music at a TAB show is an A+!  If you're not seeing this band, you are missing out on some seriously high-level playing.

Somehow I was hoping for many less Phish songs by this band but may check 'em out anyway as the player/band quality seems very good.

Love it, Ken!

Let's go

TAB

head and shoulders above Phish<<<

Personally, I wouldn't say this.

There's definitely some qualities that TAB hits upon that Phish does not, but it comes at a "cost" ... in particular, the tighter arrangements of TAB tend to "stay within the lines" in a more predictable way than Phish in terms of songs that have lots of stops and turns at precise times; and TAB also don't have as much of the "goofiness" embedded into some of the Phish songs that I'm not necessarily a fan of.   So for my particular tastes, TAB pumps more songs that fall within the lines for what I generally like by removing some of the low point outliers ... HOWEVER, the same self-imposed constraints also remove a lot of the high points that only Phish can achieve.  In the end, I'd rather take the "low points" that I'm not totally on board with in order to be there for the peaks that TAB doesn't quite hit in the same way.  (this is not to say they don't get there to some extent)
