Tried amanita muscaria tincture

Forums:

Obtained it at the Telluride Mushroom Festival last weekend.  It was supposedly decarbonized, so it acted more like a sedative than psychedelic; however, I only took half the recommended dosage and had also previously ingested a bunch of cordyceps and lions mane (among other things), so still haven't quite given it a real "test drive" yet, but definitely interesting.

I harvest amanitas here(see pics thread the other day) def prefer to psylocibe these days. A lot more relaxing and dreamy than hallucinatory imho but I don't use much

Nice!  I missed that somehow!  Looks more yellow than I typically see around here, but have definitely seen them as orange.

Do you decarbonize and/or do an extract before ingesting?

Nothing doing this year (for all mushrooms), but last year was insane ...

Yea they get a lot darker here then the ones I got the other day. I dry the caps only, no extraction and sometimes tea. I'm def in for the mild rides these days

A touch of cray?

Just a touch

Do you measure the amount, or do you just eyeball what you're going to nibble / make into tea?

ive picked them and processed them both in the oven and by sun drying. all of my experiences with it in varying doses were slightly psychedelic/dissacosiative, but mostly sedative, with very clear GABA activity and effects similar to alcohol or benzos. i guess at some point i could try harvesting a larger amount, break them into pieces and blend them so i can take increasingly large doses and maybe get something more psychedelic, but for me, the mushrooms at doses i thought were reasonable based on the collective of online experience reports did not produce any worthwhile psychedelic effects that couldnt be exceeded by simply smoking lots of cannabis.

but there are certainly people out there who feel differently. many truly strange people claim to have insane psychedelic effects from this mushroom, or attribute great historical significance to it. like "soma shaman" hawk, who posted a video to youtube of him eating what he claims to be a death cap mushroom, amanita phalloides, and surviving via his magical amanita shaman abilities that he gained via daily ingestion of large amounts of amanita muscaria, or james arthur, the christian mystic who claimed the only true way to experience amanita was to eat/make tea from the mushrooms, and then ingest cups of your own urine every hour until you achieve some kind of mystical death/rebirth experience, and of course john marco allegro, the biblical scholar who developed the theory that christianity was based on a fertility cult that practiced the ritual ingestion of amanita mushrooms, and that christ was a mythical figure inspired by mushroom experiences.

personally im unconvinced.

That's been my experience also and why I prefer it

TBH if its going to mostly just be a sedative experience, id prefer to just use opiates. i know opiates are the big demonized drug these days that will turn you into a dick sucking crack whore if you simply look at a single pill, but ive been growing a small crop of poppies and drying the material for tea every year without issue for quite a long time.

i measured my doses in grams. i dont remember what i took, at the time i was very into the online ethnobotanical world and knew what average doses to try via discussion on forums like edot, lyceaum, mycotopia etc. you could probably glean similar info with less effort from the amanita muscaria vault on erowid.

if youre ever wondering if you should eyeball a drug or not, the answer is probably no.

Personally, I wouldn't eyeball ... was just curious if it's something you can do; akin to the other "magic" variety.  It's easy enough for me to follow the directions about dosage from the person who created the tincture, but curious how people go about consuming the actual mushroom itself (whether raw or decarbonized).

I haven't really given it enough of a test to determine if I'd like opiates better, although the person I got it from did suggest that it could serve as a "stepping stone" for people to get off of benzos.     As far as "dirtiness", I think opiates are a cleaner choice vs. benzos (and gabapentin / lyrica / etc.), but they all hold the potential for harm.   I do take Temazepam for insomnia, so wouldn't mind using amanita if it pans out & isn't harmful re: long term use.

After giving it another go, I generally concur with your assessment.  It's definitely interesting, but the negative baggage (slight queasy feeling and tightness in chest) just isn't worth it for me to ramp up to a higher dosage to try and elicit a greater psychedelic / dissociative response.   I might experiment with microdosing to see if there's any benefit on that level, but not holding my breath.   Even though it wasn't something I had hoped for, I still find it all fascinating.

bro, are you seriously going to give up without trying the james arthur method where you drink cups of your own piss all night??? for shame
