I stripped the end of the broken wire, braided it back together and wrapped some electrical tape around it.  Now the light fixture that hangs from the ceiling fan is operational.

And,  Congrats Mr. Bluestnote on your wiring project.  In that sort of situation,  I like to add a 'Wire-cap'  (those little threaded thimble-ish plastic bits) with the Tape.  My preference is to shut off the AC lines before working on stuff like that.  Safety First
