what kind of music isn't one of those?

I'm thinking Carlson would have a huge issue with the Hoodie Mafia were he still in "the scene."

i would really love to sit down with carlson or coulter and dive deep into the relationships between their experiences with the grateful dead, and their opinions on the drug war and criminal justice. i think it would be really interesting  if they actually gave it some thought.

to me, the "ethos" of the grateful dead and the scene outside the shows was in many ways very libertarian - the wild west, guns, personal freedom, personal responsibility, the free market, unregulated capitalism, patriotism, etc etc...for how "left" most people consider them, and how most fans would likely identify, the experience, at least for me, has never been in line with the ideals of mainstream democrats.

its really not so far off to think a few deadheads leave the scene, and become straight laced and mainstream as they get older and stop going to shows.

So this is the deadhead sub-group that bryen inhabits.

Carlson was almost likable when he was on CNN years ago. Then he went to Fox Noise and had to cater to the loonies so he turned into one himself.

Either way, I call bullshit on his "more than 50" Dead shows. He was at a boarding high school in Rhode Island in the late 80s, graduated from a small college in Connecticut in 92, then went to work for a newspaper in Arkansas. Doubt Jerry and the boys were swinging through Little Rock often.

Classic case of lying about your Deadsume.

He wouldn't know what Let's see your stubs meanssmiley

[Or maybe it was Show us the stubs  --  I don't recall the specifics or the participants of that bit o' black screen drama]

I'd like to hear Carlson elaborate on his opinion regarding child brides and statutory rape...

In a report from Media Matters, Carlson was outed for an interview he gave where he said underage marriage is not “the same thing exactly as pulling a child from a bus stop and sexually assaulting that child . . . The rapist, in this case, has made a lifelong commitment to live and take care of the person, so it is a little different.

 More from Yael

*Full disclosure: I listen to the Dead (Pigpen years preferred) and went to a handful of GD concerts in the '90s. But that's also how I've gathered my participant observation data.

(((((Participant Observation Data)))))))

*And, I should add, the Dead were big college/frat favorites in the '80s, when Carlson was coming of age.

LOL

*People who didn't come of age in the early '90s don't realize we got ideas--to us that's dear. Like capitalism. Like communism. Like lots of things you've heard about. And redneckers, they get us pissed. And stupid stuff, it makes us shout.

((((((stupid stuff that makes you want to shout)))))

And now a message from Otis Day and The Nights....

>>>>stupid stuff that makes you want to shout

Nope....I'll just say real politely. This person is a real idiot.

Taken down by bubba the love sponge with the double blue jay on the backside

Is he the cat that used to wear a bow tie on cnn?

Zang, why don’t you get on Twitter and mansplain it to her?

who is this chick?

No idea.  But she’s right.  Deadheads are the worst.  I like 15% of you people.  Tops.

He could easily get to 50 shows just during his college years in Connecticut.  Probably saw some before he graduated from high school too.  Dead played the northeast relentlessly, tons of preppy private school kids amongst the hoards.

I just googled Yael Rice and the school he teaches at was an epicenter of GD loving hippie prepsters.  I am sure it is now an epicenter of hippie prepsters who love some other music.  But it is true, I have taken people of color to shows and had them be like "Sooooo, this is really white."

Tucker Carlson starts unscheduled vacation tonight following his show. Hope the door doesn't hit him on the way out.

Tucker Carlson lives and works in New York City and the city loves him.

Dats tuff

Slacker are you sure about that comment re: New Yorkers loving Tucker? I personally would love to plunk him-douchebag

Fox News is in downtown Manhattan.

Millions of watchers in the city.

New York is Trump.

Fox News is in downtown Manhattan. <<

Um, no.

New York is Trump.<<

Um, F no.

>Tucker Carlson lives and works in New York City and the city loves him<

He lives and works in the DC area. Used to live in north jersey, but moved about ten years ago.

Brayin' loves this guy, said he should have a statue in DC.

The entire Carlson rant in favor of “dissent,” mind you, was possible only because he declined to clue in his audience as to the hateful things he’d said in those radio chats.

Self-righteous pronouncement in favor of free speech:

It’s really not that much you can do to respond ... it’s pointless to try to explain how the words were spoken in jest or taken out of context, or in any case bear no resemblance to what you actually think or would want for the country.

Speech that he’s actually defending:

She just does seem a little c---y.

Self-righteous pronouncement in favor of free speech:

One side is deadly serious. They believe that politics is war. They are not interested in abstractions or principles, rules or traditions. They seek power and they claim to win it with whatever it takes. If that includes getting you fired or silencing you, or threatening your family at home, or throwing you in prison, okay. They know what their goal is. If you are in the way, they will crush you.

Speech that he’s actually defending:

Oh my God, she’s a pig. [in reference to Arianna Huffington]

Self-righteous pronouncement in favor of free speech

The left’s main goal, in case you haven’t noticed, is controlling what you think. In order to do that, they have to control the information that you receive.

Speech that he’s actually defending:

Underage marriage isn’t “the same thing exactly as pulling a child from a bus stop and sexually assaulting that child. ... The rapist in this case has made a lifelong commitment to live and take care of the person so it is a little different.”

Self-righteous pronouncement in favor of free speech:

One of the only places left in the United States where independent thoughts are allowed is right here. The opinion hours on this network. Just a few hours in a sea of television programming, it’s not much relatively speaking. For the left, it’s unacceptable. They demand total conformity.

Speech that he’s actually defending:

Somehow the rest of us have been bullied into pretending that Oprah’s great, that she doesn’t hate the penis, that she’s not anti-man.

Self-righteous pronouncement in favor of free speech:

The point of this show has never been us, but now it’s obvious to everybody. There is no pretending that it is not happening, it is happening and so going forward, we’ll be covering their efforts to make us be quiet.

Speech that he’s actually defending:

No, it’s just absolutely fundamental -- physically, the problems with [Elena Kagan] are fundamental. She’s never going to be an attractive woman.

Self-righteous pronouncement in favor of free speech:

You’ve got one channel that disagrees with all the other channels. You have an island of dissent in the middle of the sea of sameness, and that’s too much for them, and I wonder if we’ve been lying to ourselves about the extent to which they would like to shut this channel down.

Speech that he’s actually defending:

If you’re talking to a feminist, and she’s given you, “Well, men really need to be more sensitive,” [say] no, actually, men don’t need to be more sensitive. You just need to be quiet and kind of do what you’re told.

Self-righteous pronouncement in favor of free speech:

Why would they want to stop all dissent? What’s the point of that?

Speech that he’s actually defending:

There’s no Canadian woman that you’d want to pay to sleep with.

Curious timing to say the least, just as the Russia scam is evaporating into the ether...lots of parallels to the microcosm of these political threads.  Take a few minutes and listen to his opening monologue from yesterday evening if you're able to tolerate an opposing viewpoint.

     https://youtu.be/tsWDElOjZaY

^do you share Carlson's misogynistic views?

How do you feel about child marriage and statutory rape?

Do you agree Carlson?

And for months now you've rambling on about how anyday now the Russia narrative will fall apart...

Hasn't happened.

You're the boy who cried hoax

^ from the guy who told me for months to wave a Russian flag, if you honestly believe the Russia scam at this point you're completely brainwashed and there's little hope

^from the guy who gets his info from right wing propaganda.

You are the guy who wants a statue of Carlson in the DC area, so...

Do you agree with Carlson's misogynistic comments?

Do you agree with Carlson's opinion regarding statutory rape and child marriage?

Your false argument is precisely the subject of his monologue if you care to listen

Cool, got it... blame the messenger.

So you agree with his misogynistic comments and his views on statutory rape?

Have a nice day Lumber, hopefully you stumble onto some decency

^Decency?

You're the guy defending misogynists and criminals.

     A) misoginists:  off-color conversation from a "shock-jock" radio show 12 years ago [I realize you're a true feminist, probably watching old Oprah episodes on your VCR & knitting pink hats as these words are typed] doesn't disqualify him from speaking truth to the media/DNC infrastructure.

     B) criminals:  process crimes

     Edit: misogynists

    * who learns how to spell some of these words?  Oprah, it's the Oprahfication of the Queen's English.

A) I am much more disgusted by Carlson's defense of Warren Jeffs and child marriage. But go ahead and admire whoever you want.

B) Rationalize it anyway you need to

Go back to your knitting...we know you don't like Tucker, Trump, Tehachapi, Tonopah or Truth

de·lu·sion

/dəˈlo͞oZHən/

noun

an idiosyncratic belief or impression that is firmly maintained despite being contradicted by what is generally accepted as reality or rational argument

Brayin', I am more familiar with Tump and the Truth than you seem to be.

I'll leave Carlson and his sick, twisted defense of child marriage to you.

bryen, remember taking my last tab of acid, 2 tall boys outta the cooler and walking off into the dawn?

A wook Republican.

You can't make this shit up.

At the end of the day, I realized long ago that the exposure of the Russia scam wouldn't necessarily go smoothly on this message board...I have unconditional love for you all, as I have stated many times, I'm going to meditate on that and return later, namaste, keep it real, love and indeed respect to all of you, Lumber first and foremost.

I want to see Ann Coulter and Tucker Carlson posts their Deadsumes once and for all. I'm betting there's no way that pussy came near 50 Dead shows. More than likely, him and his frat bros saw a few 94-95 shows (with Jerry nodding off at the mic) and forgot about them until it became trendy to be a Deadhead years later. Like when actors and actresses starting popping up walking on Hollywood Blvd. wearing bedazzled Dead shirts.

Show us your goddamn Wings Tucker.

So "Bryen", you stole acid and beer from Turtle?

Not really the "kind, GD family way", is it "Bry"?

he didn't steal anything. i gave him the tab and the beers were ours.

Thanks for clarifying. I was thinking even he couldn't be that lame.

I'm about to hit the links, I forget what I was going to mention, something along the lines of the psychedelic community attracting the best & brightest...unconditional love to each and every one of you.  In a "first day of the rest of your life" type mentality, there's a vast territory to conquer.  It's a brave new world.

Why do republicans hate Jesus, and especially, his teachings?

Speaking of the Catholic Church, can you believe that the Church wants Pete Davidson to apologize for his joke comparing the Catholic Church to R. Kelly?

I don't understand why an apology is in order, hell, the Church had been involved in pedophilia for much longer than R. Kelly has...centuries vs decades.

Do you think it was the part about the music that offended Church officials?

Not everyone was laughing about Pete Davidson's joke on last weekend's episode of "Saturday Night Live."

The comedian opened his appearance on the faux-news "Weekend Update" segment with a line that drew some titters and stunned "oooooohs" from the audience: "This guy is a monster and he should go to jail forever," Davidson said, referring to R&B singer R. Kelly, who has been accused of sexually abusing young women. "But if you support the Catholic Church, isn't that like the same thing as being an R. Kelly fan? I don't really see the difference, except for one's music is significantly better."

Jerry worked at being a Catholic about as much as Tucker works at being a journalist.

Bryen the consummate republican. Noodler asks a simple, direct, not to hard to understand question. And B hits him with some," I'll pray for you ", horse shit. Really Bryan ? WTF I bet you are a hell of a dodgeball player. You're a master at the 5 D's

Dodge Dip Duck Dive + Dodge

Just when you think B's making progress, he seems to regress. We have to be vigilant with this pup

When the lie's so big
And the fog gets so thick
And the facts disappear
The republican trick
Can be played out again
People, please tell me when
We'll be rid of these men!

Just who do they really
Suppose that they are?
And how did they manage to travel as far
As they seem to have come?
Were we really that dumb?

People, wake up
Figure it out
Religious fanatics
Around and about
The court house, the state house,
The congress, the white house

^ this goes a long ways towards some of you not understanding Garcia...at the last ever Jerry Garcia Band show me & Cosmic Charlie may he rest in peace discussed Garcia's Catholicism at length during an unusually long intermission sitting in the balcony of the Warfield.  I'm on the golf course right now, I do love you guys, if it weren't for Garcia's Catholicism there wouldn't be a Phil message board, so there's that.

Who The Hell Is Tucker Carlson ?

1. “If I could conceive that the general government might ever be so administered as to render the liberty of conscience insecure, I beg you will be persuaded, that no one would be more zealous than myself to establish effectual barriers against the horrors of spiritual tyranny, and every species of religious persecution.”
~Founding Father George Washington, letter to the United Baptist Chamber of Virginia, May 1789

2. “Of all the animosities which have existed among mankind, those which are caused by a difference of sentiments in religion appear to be the most inveterate and distressing, and ought to be deprecated. I was in hopes that the enlightened and liberal policy, which has marked the present age, would at least have reconciled Christians of every denomination so far that we should never again see the religious disputes carried to such a pitch as to endanger the peace of society.”
~Founding Father George Washington, letter to Edward Newenham, October 20, 1792

3. “We have abundant reason to rejoice that in this Land the light of truth and reason has triumphed over the power of bigotry and superstition… In this enlightened Age and in this Land of equal liberty it is our boast, that a man’s religious tenets will not forfeit the protection of the Laws, nor deprive him of the right of attaining and holding the highest Offices that are known in the United States.”
~Founding Father George Washington, letter to the members of the New Church in Baltimore, January 27, 1793

4. “The United States of America have exhibited, perhaps, the first example of governments erected on the simple principles of nature; and if men are now sufficiently enlightened to disabuse themselves of artifice, imposture, hypocrisy, and superstition, they will consider this event as an era in their history. Although the detail of the formation of the American governments is at present little known or regarded either in Europe or in America, it may hereafter become an object of curiosity. It will never be pretended that any persons employed in that service had interviews with the gods, or were in any degree under the influence of Heaven, more than those at work upon ships or houses, or laboring in merchandise or agriculture; it will forever be acknowledged that these governments were contrived merely by the use of reason and the senses.”
~John Adams, “A Defence of the Constitutions of Government of the United States of America” 1787-1788

5. “The Government of the United States of America is not in any sense founded on the Christian religion.”
~1797 Treaty of Tripoli signed by Founding Father John Adams

6. “Thirteen governments [of the original states] thus founded on the natural authority of the people alone, without a pretence of miracle or mystery, and which are destined to spread over the northern part of that whole quarter of the globe, are a great point gained in favor of the rights of mankind.”
~Founding Father John Adams, “A Defence of the Constitutions of Government of the United States of America” (1787-88)

7. “We should begin by setting conscience free. When all men of all religions shall enjoy equal liberty, property, and an equal chance for honors and power we may expect that improvements will be made in the human character and the state of society.”
~Founding FatherJohn Adams, letter to Dr. Price, April 8, 1785

8. “I contemplate with sovereign reverence that act of the whole American people which declared that their legislature should make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibit the free exercise thereof, thus building a wall of separation between church and state.”
~Founding Father Thomas Jefferson, letter to the Baptists of Danbury, Connecticut, 1802

9. “In every country and in every age, the priest has been hostile to liberty. He is always in alliance with the despot, abetting his abuses in return for protection to his own. It is error alone that needs the support of government. Truth can stand by itself.”
~Founding Father Thomas Jefferson, in a letter to Horatio Spofford, 1814

10. “Question with boldness even the existence of a God; because, if there be one, he must more approve of the homage of reason, then that of blindfolded fear.”
~Founding Father Thomas Jefferson, letter to Peter Carr, August 10, 1787

11. “I am for freedom of religion and against all maneuvers to bring about a legal ascendancy of one sect over another.”
~Founding Father Thomas Jefferson, letter to Elbridge Gerry, January 26, 1799

12. “History, I believe, furnishes no example of a priest-ridden people maintaining a free civil government. This marks the lowest grade of ignorance of which their civil as well as religious leaders will always avail themselves for their own purposes.”
~Founding Father Thomas Jefferson: in letter to Alexander von Humboldt, December 6, 1813

13. “Because religious belief, or non-belief, is such an important part of every person’s life, freedom of religion affects every individual. Religious institutions that use government power to support themselves and force their views on persons of other faiths undermine all our civil rights. Moreover, state support of the church tends to make the clergy unresponsive to the people and leads to corruption within religion. Erecting the “wall of separation between church and state,” therefore, is absolutely essential in a free society. We have solved … the great and interesting question whether freedom of religion is compatible with order in government and obedience to the laws. And we have experienced the quiet as well as the comfort which results from leaving every one to profess freely and openly those principles of religion which are the inductions of his own reason and the serious convictions of his own inquiries.”
~Founding Father Thomas Jefferson: in a speech to the Virginia Baptists, 1808

14. “Christianity neither is, nor ever was a part of the common law.”
~Founding Father Thomas Jefferson, letter to Dr. Thomas Cooper, February 10, 1814,

15. “The civil government functions with complete success by the total separation of the Church from the State.”
~Founding Father James Madison, 1819, Writings, 8:432, quoted from Gene Garman, “Essays In Addition to America’s Real Religion”

16. “And I have no doubt that every new example will succeed, as every past one has done, in shewing that religion & Govt will both exist in greater purity, the less they are mixed together.”
~Founding Father James Madison, letter to Edward Livingston, July 10, 1822

17. “Every new and successful example of a perfect separation between ecclesiastical and civil matters is of importance.”
~Founding Father James Madison, letter, 1822

18. “Strongly guarded as is the separation between Religion and Government in the Constitution of the United States, the danger of encroachment by Ecclesiastical Bodies, may be illustrated by precedents already furnished in their short history.”
~Founding Father James Madison; Monopolies, Perpetuities, Corporations, Ecclesiastical Endowments

19. “It is only when the people become ignorant and corrupt, when they degenerate into a populace, that they are incapable of exercising the sovereignty. Usurpation is then an easy attainment, and an usurper soon found. The people themselves become the willing instruments of their own debasement and ruin. Let us, then, look to the great cause, and endeavor to preserve it in full force. Let us by all wise and constitutional measures promote intelligence among the people as the best means of preserving our liberties.”
~Founding Father James Monroe, First Inaugural Address, March 4, 1817

20. “When a religion is good, I conceive it will support itself; and when it does not support itself, and God does not take care to support it so that its professors are obligated to call for help of the civil power, it’s a sign, I apprehend, of its being a bad one.”
~Founding Father Benjamin Franklin, letter to Richard Price, October 9, 1780

21. “Manufacturers, who listening to the powerful invitations of a better price for their fabrics, or their labor, of greater cheapness of provisions and raw materials, of an exemption from the chief part of the taxes burdens and restraints, which they endure in the old world, of greater personal independence and consequence, under the operation of a more equal government, and of what is far more precious than mere religious toleration–a perfect equality of religious privileges; would probably flock from Europe to the United States to pursue their own trades or professions, if they were once made sensible of the advantages they would enjoy, and were inspired with an assurance of encouragement and employment, will, with difficulty, be induced to transplant themselves, with a view to becoming cultivators of the land.”
~Founding Father Alexander Hamilton: Report on the Subject of Manufacturers December 5, 1791

22. “In regard to religion, mutual toleration in the different professions thereof is what all good and candid minds in all ages have ever practiced, and both by precept and example inculcated on mankind.”
~Samuel Adams, The Rights of the Colonists (1771)

23. “That religion, or the duty which we owe to our Creator, and the manner of discharging it, can be directed only by reason and conviction, not by force or violence; and therefore all men are equally entitled to the free exercise of religion, according to the dictates of conscience; and that it is the mutual duty of all to practice Christian forebearance, love, and charity towards each other.”
~Founding Father George Mason, Virginia Bill of Rights, 1776

24. “It is contrary to the principles of reason and justice that any should be compelled to contribute to the maintenance of a church with which their consciences will not permit them to join, and from which they can derive no benefit; for remedy whereof, and that equal liberty as well religious as civil, may be universally extended to all the good people of this commonwealth.”
~Founding Father George Mason, Virginia Declaration of Rights, 1776

25. “A man of abilities and character, of any sect whatever, may be admitted to any office or public trust under the United States. I am a friend to a variety of sects, because they keep one another in order. How many different sects are we composed of throughout the United States? How many different sects will be in congress? We cannot enumerate the sects that may be in congress. And there are so many now in the United States that they will prevent the establishment of any one sect in prejudice to the rest, and will forever oppose all attempts to infringe religious liberty. If such an attempt be made, will not the alarm be sounded throughout America? If congress be as wicked as we are foretold they will, they would not run the risk of exciting the resentment of all, or most of the religious sects in America.”
~Founding Father Edmund Randolph, address to the Virginia Ratifying Convention, June 10, 1788

26. “I never liked the Hierarchy of the Church — an equality in the teacher of Religion, and a dependence on the people, are republican sentiments — but if the Clergy combine, they will have their influence on Government.”
~Founding Father Rufus King, Rufus King: American Federalist, pp. 56-57

27. “A general toleration of Religion appears to me the best means of peopling our country… The free exercise of religion hath stocked the Northern part of the continent with inhabitants; and altho’ Europe hath in great measure adopted a more moderate policy, yet the profession of Protestantism is extremely inconvenient in many places there. A Calvinist, a Lutheran, or Quaker, who hath felt these inconveniences in Europe, sails not to Virginia, where they are felt perhaps in a (greater degree).”
~Patrick Henry, observing that immigrants flock to places where there is no established religion, Religious Tolerance, 1766

28. “No religious doctrine shall be established by law.”
~Founding Father Elbridge Gerry, Annals of Congress 1:729-731

29. “Knowledge and liberty are so prevalent in this country, that I do not believe that the United States would ever be disposed to establish one religious sect, and lay all others under legal disabilities. But as we know not what may take place hereafter, and any such test would be exceedingly injurious to the rights of free citizens, I cannot think it altogether superfluous to have added a clause, which secures us from the possibility of such oppression.”
~Founding Father Oliver Wolcott, Connecticut Ratifying Convention, 9 January 1788

30. “Some very worthy persons, who have not had great advantages for information, have objected against that clause in the constitution which provides, that no religious test shall ever be required as a qualification to any office or public trust under the United States. They have been afraid that this clause is unfavorable to religion. But my countrymen, the sole purpose and effect of it is to exclude persecution, and to secure to you the important right of religious liberty. We are almost the only people in the world, who have a full enjoyment of this important right of human nature. In our country every man has a right to worship God in that way which is most agreeable to his conscience. If he be a good and peaceable person he is liable to no penalties or incapacities on account of his religious sentiments; or in other words, he is not subject to persecution. But in other parts of the world, it has been, and still is, far different. Systems of religious error have been adopted, in times of ignorance. It has been the interest of tyrannical kings, popes, and prelates, to maintain these errors. When the clouds of ignorance began to vanish, and the people grew more enlightened, there was no other way to keep them in error, but to prohibit their altering their religious opinions by severe persecuting laws. In this way persecution became general throughout Europe.”
~Founding Father Oliver Ellsworth, Philip B Kurland and Ralph Lerner (eds.), The Founder’s Constitution, University of Chicago Press, 1987, Vol. 4, p. 638

31. “Persecution is not an original feature in any religion; but it is always the strongly marked feature of all religions established by law. Take away the law-establishment, and every religion re-assumes its original benignity.”
~Thomas Paine, The Rights of Man, 1791

32. “God has appointed two kinds of government in the world, which are distinct in their nature, and ought never to be confounded together; one of which is called civil, the other ecclesiastical government.”
~Founding Father Isaac Backus, An Appeal to the Public for Religious Liberty, 1773

33. “Congress has no power to make any religious establishments.”
~Founding Father Roger Sherman, Congress, August 19, 1789

34. “The American states have gone far in assisting the progress of truth; but they have stopped short of perfection. They ought to have given every honest citizen an equal right to enjoy his religion and an equal title to all civil emoluments, without obliging him to tell his religion. Every interference of the civil power in regulating opinion, is an impious attempt to take the business of the Deity out of his own hands; and every preference given to any religious denomination, is so far slavery and bigotry.”
~Founding Father Noah Webster, calling for no religious tests to serve in public office, Sketches of American Policy, 1785

35. “The legislature of the United States shall pass no law on the subject of religion.”
~Founding Father Charles Pinckney, Constitutional Convention, 1787

The reason I brought up Charlie, was because it really was a true moment, we were sitting beside each other in the balcony of the Warfield during intermission...the last Jerry Garcia Band show ever, Jerry took such a long break it was a bit scary...anyways, as fate would have it we discussed Garcia's Catholicism at length, respectfully...in the context of without which we wouldn't be seated at the Warfield together.  He was a great guy, Charlie...we once traveled from East Rutherford, NJ to Pine Knob MI together in my high school buddy's '65 split window VW, he had a deck of backstage laminates like a deck of cards, constant stories about pigpen & janis, he was hardcore Brooklyn, a gentleman's gentleman.  The last time I saw him was at the final Furthur
https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Furthur_(band) shows at the Berkeley Greek, he showed up unannounced, enjoying the few people who knew who he was...he looked great and completely inspired...in a Levi's jean jacket, of course.

TF u talkin about

This is probably as appropriate a time as any to discuss my travels with the spinner family, it was truly amazing, I was honored & humbled to be on the road with a group of people who were so completely focused on the beauty and divinity of Jerry Garcia.  I probably need additional time to tell the tale, but it was very special...there was nothing quite like traveling from Philo to Charlotte in 2.5 days...we'd circle 7 Toyota trucks in a New Mexico gas station and smoke large spliffs, there was strength in numbers and we felt protected which I believe we were.

On the east coast we'd often stay at private residences...east coast Jerry tour was "in and of itself" spiritual, you could look around at the 300 people or so that were at every show.

So the land in Philo was very special, it was originally an apple farm.  There was a combination of Catholic doctrine, Hindu beliefs & Krishna consciousness, also, there was a lot of sewing...the most beautiful hand sewn dresses on tour, there was a lot of dancing, partaking of the best herb in America & celebration.  At the daily ceremony, there would be a saying of the rosary, a Hindu reading, and Krishna chants.  We were truly happy in Philo, the focus on Garcia as living, breathing evidence of divine intervention was one of the highlights of my life.  The fatty circles in Madison Square Garden were pretty special too.

There are more accounts of priests raping kids, and the Catholic church covering up the priests' crimes.

I know, the church's covering up the priests' systemic criminal activity were merely process crimes.

FYI. your boy Carlson thinks a child rapist should marry his victim,  so I'm fairly sure that he would disapprove.

Lumber, why don't you crawl back under whatever rock you squirmed out from?  Mr. "I stopped going to shows in '93 because Jerry wasn't playing up to my standards."

I know...you can't handle truth about the predator priests and their enablers.

Another case of blame the messenger.

Yep,  Jerry was terrible from 92 on. Chronic heroin use tends to be debilitating

More truth you are unable to acknowledge.

"Jerry was terrible from 92 on."

     It's official, you're an idiot.

So while me and my buddies were on '93 Jerry tour you were sitting home in Jersey saying "Jerry's just not playing good enough to justify leaving the house"?

     For Lumber:

     https://youtu.be/x8fsb41tBQo

^yes, jerry was hopeless junkie, and this affected performance.

Vince didn't help either

<So while me and my buddies were on '93 Jerry tour you were sitting home in Jersey saying "Jerry's just not playing good enough to justify leaving the house"? <

Sure, because Jerry and the Dead were my only musical options. I am somewhat stunned by the idiocy of your question.

Brayin', have you ever been a member of a  cult?

     You're a scumbag

^Do you pray for the thousands of children who have been raped by Catholic priests?

Or are they scumbags too?

So "Rasmataz"...you were staying home from '93 on because Jerry wasn't playing well enough too?

     (((other musical options)))

^ given your cult like devotion to Jerry, i know that it is difficult for you to understand. Jerry and the GD were not the only game in town.

Pray on it.

So when the priests say "let us pray" does the text actually read, "let us prey."

(((east coast kids from Jersey who weren't impressed with Jerry's musical skills)))

Were you just wandering the streets of Morristown when we were at the Philly Spectrum?

We always called the Spinner zone the Grateful Dead car wash.

^jerry was great, but heroin took its toll.

Not from Jersey, just live here now.

I spent a good deal of time in small jazz clubs

Do you pray for the thousands of children who were raped by Catholic priests

So when Jerry was playing near whatever rock you climbed out from under you said to yourself "he's just not meeting my expectations lately, I think I'll just kick it with my buddies at the bowling alley?

Sorry The Jambands ruined your life Bry brah....

     ^ "jambands" that's funny

Brayin', you are really clueless, eh?

There are many bands and musicians out there.

And post 92 i had no idea where or when jerry or the GD were playing... i didn't listen to any GD or jerry from about 1993-2008, the music bored me. I rarely listen to jerry or the GD these days for the same reason.

Do you pray for the thousands of children who were raped by Catholic priests?

    "the music bored me"

     That explains a lot

You know what bores me?  Idiots that speak ill of Garcia

^ sure does, i have varied tastes. I was not hearing anything new or different in the GD's music, same old thing, but much sloppier.

 >You know what bores me?  Idiots that speak ill of Garcia<

Your difficulty with accepting the truth has been well established.

So you don't pray for the children who were raped by Catholic priests?

Go crawl back under your rock and knit hats

i had kids in 93 and by 92, lumber's assessment was true. it was a good time to get off the bus.

my buddy jason spinner worked on the organic farm for a while with me.

i'm sure you remember him bry.

Bry doesn’t like knit hats.

Willie fucking Dixon.  If I stopped going I would have missed it @ Giants stadium in 93. Had such a good time at that show, fuck the rain.

Nancy, weren't you basically saying the same thing not long ago...Jerry wasn't meeting your musical expectations at such and such a timeframe, thus refusing to go see Jerry Garcia play guitar?

Rasmataz...I'm not even going to look it up, going from pure memory...didn't the play "Rain" that night?

     Go knit a hat

Looks like Bryen is surfing more yootoobs today.

There were some very bright moments in Vegas '93. Especially that first half of second set on the last night. Phil helped that case (A LOT).

My last run of shows with Garcia were Salt Lake '95. Jerrys playing was weak, and he flubbed lyrics throughout. Sold our tix for the 3rd night (regretfully). The trip was saved by skiing Alta and a nice camping stop in Robbers Roost on the way there.

Saw one night of JGB at the Warfield in April (4/21/95?). Jerry remembered none of the words to Rueben & Cherise. His playing was decent, but nothing spectacular. The show was saved by his playing  He Ain't Give You None and Positively 4th Street (although he botched all of the lyrics on that one two).

Finally, Vegas '95. Oy. Yea, the Dew was nice. But Jerry's attempt at Unbroken Chan was god awful. He was beats behind the band...a complete mess. The Other One is like really bad. Jerry's absent. Vegas saved the weekend by having WSP and Hot Tuna/Radiators supporting the GD-Lite/DMB shoe.

You can't make this sound good, Bryen, because it wasn't. After Vegas I was done making effort to spend vacation time and $$ to see the Dead.

Oh, I forgot before all that 1995 stuff the GD played McNichol's in Denver in December '94. Those shows were AWFUL.

Brayin', you seem unable to understand the fact that some had no desire to see Jerry. For me that started in 1992.

From 1992 on i felt that Jerry was not worth the price of admission.

From 1992 on i managed to see lots of great music without wasting cash seeing the GD or Jerry

Jerry's religion was always the music. Period. And who cares when people stopped seeing the dead. I know some of the best deadheads who ever lived, that cashed em in after Pigpen couldn't play live anymore. So fucking what ?

^^^ this is brayen being 'sure'

Tom, I haven't been to church in over twenty years but I doubt anyone is talking about that during mass.

Catholics do the least amount of freestyling. Mostly just repeating the same seasonal scripture and going through the motions.

     ^ sure

What is sad is that you don't have an issue with priests raping children.

Or do you just pretend that it never happened?

It's a simple and direct question...

Are the rape victims ever mentioned at mass?

Slack, with the recent investigations into the matter by states attorneys general, i was curious if maybe some priests might address it during a sermon

I don't know, Jerry's pretty Devine too.

Timeout did someone say ?

Counting down, less than 1 hour to an armistice -

The Big Steve Hour.

Besides your keen insight my brethren + sisterhood, Steve is the best thing going.

Can I get an Amen !

Continue bashing the Catholic Church if that's what you need to do, Druba would approve, I'm sure it's a manifestation of your hostility towards Christianity, the #resistance would be proud, now go knit pink hats for your brethren.

When exactly is the Mueller investigation going to be proven to be a coup?  B-ry has been telling us it will happen every day for the last month.

And it’s okay if Deadheads chose not to see Jerry after 1992.

Bry worships false idols

to paraphrase Bry - Tucker Carlson is GOD, long live the pedophiles!

     Nancy, prominent Catholic basher...duly noted

"I'd have gone to more Jerry shows but he didn't meet my expectations musically" [paraphrasing]

Jondr used to claim that I was bashing Morons, I mean Mormons. you’re just as idiotic.

Bry: “ I watched as my priest raped little boys, but I wasn’t raped so what’s the big deal?”

Bry: “Tucker Carlson is a pig, and advocated for child rape, but it’s not my children he’s mocking so I will tell you how much I love Jerry”

Brayin', it's twisted that you think that being disgusted and outraged that children were raped is me bashing the Catholic church.

I guess priests raping children does not bother you.

Me?  i hate folks who rape kids, and the folks who enable their crimes.

Nancy & Lumber...musical aficionados, and they don't like the Catholic Church, got it

...duly noted

Watch it or I'll putcha in me book

Sean Thornton, did you write it ? Yes.  Well strike a line thru it

Admin needs to step in and tell Bryen to come clean.

Viva has an asshole ignoring serious charges about crimes against children. It makes the Viva community look like the garbage zone.

Clean up Viva. Make Bryen answer the question.

Bry trying to have a pissing match over who loves Jerry more, who loves  Tucker Carlson more, who loves Donald Trump more, who loves Pedophiles more.

I say we crown him the winner!!!!

Catholic bashing, how fashionable, like you guys invented it

It's fucking disgusting that you keep coming on here and defending people who sexually abuse kids.

The fact that you can't say "Yes, that is horrible and wrong" speaks volumes.

I quite sure the GD family you're always talking about would approve of your non-stance.

Get some help, you clearly need it.

Bible thumpers and Republicans are the worst hypocrites.

We’re bashing child rapists and those who defend child rape,  you moron.  And you’re defending child rapists. So piss off with your claim of victimization. I don’t give a rat’s ass what religion you’ve hitched your perv to.

If it weren't for Garcia's Catholicism there wouldn't be a Grateful Dead Community

Socks are the worst because they're playing a phony character that shields them from reality.

If admin won't clean this dude up, ignore him.

Nancy, you're bashing the Catholic Church in a long standing tradition of hostility towards all things Catholic, don't pretend it's anything otherwise.

Bryen, choosing to defend something so vast in its evil transgressions is fighting a battle that can not and will not be won. There's no point to your arguments and you're only serving your own idea of fun in your arguments while causing discomfort. What the fuck for?

I take no issue with Catholics who follow Jesus’ teachings. Tucker, Trump and you are full of shit.

Of course B dosen't support pariah priests, but you backed him into such a tight corner its gonna take a while before he can get both feet out of his mouth to reply.

Big Steve Hour in 24 mins.  He'll make you remember why we love each other.

This is not about a spiritual home for you, Bryen, it's about an argument, right? Waste of energy, yours and ours.

Because Catholic bashing predates any recent scandal, it's an age old form of religious intolerance that is the last culturally acceptable form of bigotry.

I don't like rape

I don't like children being raped

I don't like institutions that support rape, and the raping of children

I don't like institutions that cover up rape, and the raping of children

I speak out against rapist, and the institutions that protect them

I speak out against rapist, and the institutions that support them

I've volunteered for many excellent organizations that work with rape victims.  I'm sure i've spent more one on one time with rape victims during my medical tenure than most of the fine travelers to this group.

What's truly offensive, isn't some meme portraying truth through biting satire, it's saying you're against war, but refuse to condemn a very long list of atrocities that have been discussed in a multitude of threads on this site.  It shouldn't be hard to say Racism is wrong, or homophobia, or nationalism, or nazism, etc.   And you keep making this pink hat joke, why do you hate rape victims, victims of sexual assault, and sexism in general, why is their symbol, and more importantly, what it represents, so offensive to you?

And Yes, we get it. it’s a cult for you. You can see no wrongdoing in Trumpism or  Catholicism. Or even Jerry.

Lay off  the Koolaide.

He backed himself into the corner,  Ras, condemning predator priests and the church officials who enabled their crimes should be a slam dunk.

>Because Catholic bashing predates any recent scandal, it's an age old form of religious intolerance that is the last culturally acceptable form of bigotry.<

The "scandal " has been going on for centuries, you POS

     What a group

There are about 1.4 billion Catholics in the world. The vast majority are wonderful people. Can we please not trash an entire religion because of a fucked up hierarchy? It’s no different than blaming all Muslims for the terrorist act of a few.

>> he backed himself into

I know it, you know it, we all know it, I'm just trying to give my man an out. He didn't take it.

Bryen - Dr Rick Marshall (no he never gets tired of being wrong)

But we love ya man. I have faith you'll come around. Remember Jesus left the entire flock to go after the one astray.  Bry you are the stray.

BIG STEVE

^Brian, I'm not blaming all Catholics, only the clergy.

But Catholics need to hold the clergy responsible,  not pretend that nothing happened.

conservative trolls make the best trolls, there's just no argument.

sorry dogman.

I would defer to Pope Francis on all commentary regarding the recent scandal...that being said, there is a longstanding pattern of open hostility towards Catholicism in this country and this particular community, ironically so, I realize some of you couldn't care less about Jerry Garcia or his faith, but if it weren't for Garcia's Catholicism there wouldn't have been a psychedelic revolution of consciousness, certainly not a movement you would recognize, and certainly not a black screen dedicated to the Grateful Dead Community that some of you utilize to voice your hostility towards the Catholic Church.

While we're on the subject, some of you seem to wear your hostility towards Christianity on your sleeve, I never understood that, I do not get that whatsoever, I don't understand how some of you who purportedly ingest psychedelics have an unabashed hostility towards Christianity.

> I know it, you know it, we all know it, I'm just trying to give my man an out. He didn't take it.

Bry claims that he and other sinners only need to answer to God  and seek God’s forgiveness. A few minutes in the confession booth and they’re cool with child rape. judge not...yadda, yadda.

Of course Bry is happy to judge everyone who has a problem with child rapists and those who defend/cover for child rapists. How dare your criticize his cult!!!

Get off your high cross, Bry.

Not hostile towards Christianity, just the Catholic priests who rape kids, and those like you who enable the the predator priests and the complicit hierarchy of the Church.

surprised this Three Billboards scene hasn't been posted here yet:

I just want to thank Byron for proving the point of this thread that there’s plenty of misogynist, child rape supporting Deadheads just like him and Tucker.

>>> I have unconditional love for you all, as I have stated many times,

>>> You're a scumbag

"I have unconditional love for you all, as I have stated many times"  - true

"You're a scumbag" - I could have used different language

Call me crazy, but I really don’t give a shit about Jerry’s connection to either god or religion.

Oddly, I don’t think B-ry is trolling!

Don't be a brybaby

Not trolling, eh? You think he just ran out of pot then? Seems to be the go to excuse for this type of thing

are you suicidal, Bry?

Beats the hell out of me, Nancy.

Buck up, Brayin', Carlson is no one trick pony.

Other than defending child marriage and child sexual abuse,  Carlson's message of hate and intolerance has earned him some interesting fans, other than you that is...

neo-Nazi website Daily Stormer regularly features videos of Carlson’s interviews under the headline “You Can’t Cuck The TUCK!” The site’s founder, Andrew Anglin, has called Carlson “our greatest ally” and a “machine of ultimate destruction” who “LAMPSHADE[S]” Jewish guests.

The former Ku Klux Klan leader David Duke has praised Carlson for pushing back against “Jewish Supremacists” who “believe they are above the law.”

I left number #3 blank for you, Brayin'

^ while in theory i agree with this, however, the church and thus in many cases its follows are anti woman, anti gay and the 6% of all priests (if you believe the data shown in the film Spotlight and if you haven't seen it, you should) are Pedofiliacs, which the Vatican had covered up since the mid 60's . Besides in the words of George Harrison, "the pope owns 51% of general motors" so what do they do with all that money?

Christian Church + Muslim Dome Of The Rock

Beautiful

So that's where it's all supposed to go down.

What a shame

>>>>>Can we please not trash an entire religion

Who did that?

Bry did,  by defending all those catholic pedophile priests?

To Paraphrase Bry: I love Catholic priests who are Pedophiles and if you weren’t a victim then stop complaining
