Hmmmm...

28 years later....

Now an email:

Come join us on July 9th for a full day of live music, food, and fun at McNears Beach Park!

We’ll kick off the festivities with the first-ever Turtle Trot, a Terrapin Nation 5k, 10k, and Kids Run around beautiful McNears Park. Runners (and walkers) will cross the finish line to live music, and receive an exclusive race shirt and finisher's medal.

The race will be followed by Sunday Daydream, a festival of great live music, amazing food, local beers, and much more. A full lineup, including three sets of music from some of your favorite TXR musicians, will be announced soon.

Sunday Daydream tickets and Turtle Trot tickets are sold separately, or you can purchase an all-day bundle to enjoy both events at a discount.

Get Early Bird pricing on all adult Festival and Turtle Trot tickets with promo code EARLYBIRD, but space is limited!

The image of a turtle jogging makes me smile.

Some rise
Some fall
Some climb                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                             Some Trot
To get to terrapin...

Sweet offer. No trot taken, but I might just have to come up for the music.

WTF Dynamic pricing in road running races?  Wonder how much a  marathon turtle race  entry fee would be?

Sounds like this will be Terrapin Family band (and probably Phil as special guest) playing at McNear's Beach. Up the road from TXR.

all very confusing with no bands listed and the impression that the event is being held at the old TXR property/park.

https://www.parks.marincounty.org/parkspreserves/parks/mcnears-beach

I have to think Phil will be involved with this, and I would imagine beyond the Family Band many if not all the TxR regulars like Stu, Lebo, Scott Law, Elliott Peck, etc. will also be involved, and hopefully some of the semi-regulars like Molo, Krasno and others, which means it will probably be good.

At first I thought it was at the TxR park, which would have been seriously cool, but it makes sense that it isn't, as that place has been sitting fallow for a long time and would likely require lots of prep to clean it up. This other place looks pretty cool for a show, and looks bigger than the TxR Backyard.

What the hell, a little fun in the sun, should be a good time. As long as they don't use those goons from the doors at TxR. Draconian bastards.

Get your hoodies ready!

Finally!!!!  There's a golden opportunity for the Zone to develop and launch the "Couch Tour to 5K" app  enlightened

>Get your hoodies ready!

no need for hoodies - gotta pony up for 'VIP' tix if you want to be in spitting distance of the stage

You don't think the VIPs will be vying for and holding their just exactly perfect spot?

Don't you know there are VIPs and uber-innie VIPs?

I pity the unanointed who venture into that rare air.

Of course Phil is going to play, no Phil, no TXR. I would imagine a Terrapin All Star band and some other bands that frequented TXR. McNear's Park is a great place with lots of space by the water and thus evocative of TXR. Sunday Fun Day for sure.

>Don't you know there are VIPs and uber-innie VIPs?

ah, of course

the hoodie mafia takes this shit seriously.

haha

*ducks*

Lance/heathentom,

I'm all in for the draconian bastard/goons from the doors at TXR stories!

Where do I put my hoodie to hold a spot for this?

"As long as they don't use those goons from the doors at TxR. Draconian bastards."

That young clean cut yahoo yanking me out of The Grate Room during the first Q show, for toking on a one-hitter!

I said, "Shit man. You let hedspace get away with it!"

Dude replied, "You're not him!"

uber innies indeed!

>>>I'm all in for the draconian bastard/goons from the doors at TXR stories<<<

If I shared any of those stories I'd be disappeared.

They're always watching.

>>>Where do I put my hoodie to hold a spot for this<<<

Moses, you usually attend these events with an uber-innie who Phil loves to see. As long as you're with him you'll be allowed to pass.

i walk in at show time and stand behind all those weirdos that camped out for hrs and/or show up and expect to be up there....because, they're always up there!

Will there be Chicken Bongs??

Always watching

blow is a helluva drug

((((rail riding))))

Hey y'all,

Happy 49th Birthday to the Wall of Sound! yes

Lance/h-tom,

Holy moley!! I didn't know I was UIA (uber innie adjacent). That's almost as good as ZUI cool

Peak15,

That is some wicked, scary stuff you got there in that post. surprise

Lots of good zoners here. I hope we can all make it to Sunday Daydream. Who here has started training for the 5k/10k?

Ok, I'll refrain (for now) from telling any of my stories about the chaotic, crazy first year at TXR....too funny, Q included....

Good call on the Wall of Sound Moses, the first Scarlet and the first Cassidy, and of course the epic

Playin->Uncle John's->Morning Dew->Uncle John's->Playin.

Can't beat that with a stick.....

unless they close entry to the whole park for this event I can see the general public having access and easily listening to the music

no hoodie needed...

Interesting to know this is not a Phil production...

IMG_5943.jpeg

Wow. Haven't seen Brian in  a long while.

barf

Well

that all went downhill, quickly

Having not led with this info, it plays kinda like a bait and switch.

Huh? How's that?

The top graphic starts off with Terrapin Crossroads Presents. TXR was primarily a Phil and Jill thing, and yes, Brian and Grahame played there quite a bit. The post Zooey's shared yesterday tells a somewhat different story, doesn't it?

Phil and Jill retired and closed "TXR." Phil is 83 and professionally focused on playing a handful of scattered gigs across the country.  These upcoming events are being put on and patronized by many of the same people that made TXR happen. It's pretty logical that their kids are using it to bring music to the community. Let them have at it and judge it by how it turns out. So, other than the venue I expect this to be no different than any of the shows that happened outside in the yard.

> I expect this to be no different than any of the shows that happened outside in the yard.

That's what got me to pull the trigger on it, Woz. I'm just hoping for at least one set with Phil, if not more.

I fully expect Phil to come and play, he just doesn't have to deal with the rest of the noise.I'd be shocked if he didn't appear at the first one of these.

Of all those names

none play bass

Well geez, I would hope Phil would show up to be a part of this. Would be a disappointment if not.

Well geez, I would hope Phil would show up to be a part of this. Would be a disappointment if not.

As Bss noted, not a bass player on that list and of course there is the "and many more very special guests." Hard to believe Phil wouldn't roll down the hill a few miles to play....

........but it is somewhat disconcerting to not see Phil's name there......

When they need to sell more tickets, Phil's name will appear.

"All runners get access to an exclusive set of live music" .

Phil will be playing along the race course...

Don't worry

they'll add Reed Mathis at the last minute

Maybe Phil's running, not playing.

smiley

Actually the case to be made that Phil won’t be there is:

For the “all stars,” Lebo and Stu are both on guitars, and Grahame has definitely played bass on many occasions before, with other bands but he has done.

Krasno definitely plays bass and did so with Tedeschi Trucks Band for a stretch.

Connor is the bassist with Midnight North and he is also on the bill as “also featuring.”

Could very well be Grahame or Krasno or Connor on bass, or combinations of the three taking turns. The statement that there are “no bass players” on the bill is completely inaccurate.

It obviously doesn’t rule Phil out, but it could easily go this way where he is not involved.

chants:

"LET PHIL REST!!!"

"LET PHIL REST!!!"

"LET PHIL REST!!!"

alright fair enough

now

wondering which of those bass players do you think john molo is traveling to this gig specifically to drum with? (and no, I'm kidding about reed. I like reed. but it's not reed)

That’s easy. Molo is going where Molo is getting paid, and Grahame can pay him.

yeah but you sidestepped the actual question

i'm trying to create mystery here

and speculation

and intrigue. and calculating the probabilities of things

its possible that this and some future billings will leave the possibility of phil up in the air, to let him decide if/how long he wants to play closer to showtime.

the band does sound a bit nicer than the usual txt/family band style lineups. of course molo is the main draw, but ive heard some good playing from both crosby and allen. they wouldnt be my first choice for keys/lead guitar, but regardless, the lineup does sound like it will have some potential if phil shows up. unfortunately, the overly saccharine family oriented daytime shows ive seen at txr are very, very much not my scene.

Grahame all but confirmed on Instagram that Phil's in the All-Stars band: https://www.instagram.com/p/Crv7UY6Jarx/?hl=en

(check his response to the comment asking about Phil)

stop ploddin' the hump

In the main group Lebo is definitely the best player in a very good bunch. That guy is the real deal, and Crosby is top dollar as well.

I'm not overly surprised that Phil isn't in the announcements, but I am a little surprised to not see Brian or Ross James announced in this.

Brian seemed to be involved in this, and despite all the "expert" opinions, James is a good player and surprisingly he's a very good bass player, so if not Phil I would expect Reed or RMFJ on base. Both excellent choices.

With or without Phil, and it would be a surprise but not a shock if Phil wasn't there (a surprise because Terrapin Crossroads is so connected to him; not a shock because maybe he wants the next generation to take over "the scene") but does Phil on his own, at this point, make SUCH A DIFFERENCE???

To us and many others of course he does. He's one of the greatest players in the history of music, but this could still be a very good show without him. And it will almost certainly still be a fine show without the usual "big names" who routinely fumble around and generally get lost with Phil while the peanut gallery goes, "OOOOOH!!! BIG NAME, BIG NAME!!!!"

Either way, if you go in with reasonable, proper expectations it will almost certainly be a fine day of music and fun.

(It can't always be the Hallowed Q or the Glory of Sless)

back when I was a dishwasher, I would have appreciated this support.

So this is on Sunday. Anybody going?

No spot taken. I just realized that I had purchased a ticket months ago for an afternoon Pete Escovedo show at a glorious little place on the ocean in Half Moon Bay.

Disappointed to be missing what will be a nice little reunion, but a much easier drive and it's likely the last time I'll get to see PeteE.

Have fun kids, and remember to be nice to the staff (watch out for the doorman though, I hear he confiscates the good stash).

I'll be there.  Looking forward to it.

I'll be there, see you there Johnny.

Lots of people selling tickets on social media, I'm guessing that is due to the lack of Phil's presence on the bill.

The doorman will not confiscate but you can donate. At least that's what he told me.

confiscate at your own risk...i put pcp on everything

You made it! So happy for you and Jack and everybody you get to see and who gets to see you heart

Thanks a million, admin wink

Happy to be here. Wish you were here, too

I kind of wish I were, too.

I’m not surprised Phil didn’t show up at this Terrapin Trot today. Phil seems to be keeping away from public performance during the entire duration of the DeadCo tour. Of course Phil didn’t have to do that, but I think he just feels like, “Let these guys have their last hurrah, I don’t need to compete, I’m going on vacation.” Or staycation or whatever. You will notice Phil has not performed at any point from when DeadCo started their tour in May. Phil is good at laying low, he knows how to stay out of sight for as long as he wants. It doesn’t bother him, he’s a voracious reader, loves his classical music, loves hanging out with his grandson, etc. He has plenty to be happy about without getting onstage until he really feels like it. And truth be told, his sets at Skull were pretty rough.

I don't think Phil cares one bit about DeadCo tour. But, his summer schedule is much lighter than last year (which I thought was pretty stacked, actuallly). Hopefully he still "feels it" enough to get out a few more times.

Any reports from the show?

Oh, I don’t think Phil “cares” about DeadCo, but I do think he feels like he doesn’t need to be out there at the moment.

For a long time, it seemed like Phil was being pressed into doing more dates than he probably wanted to. And now it seems like he’s just, “Nope.” He doesn’t need to be a workaholic, and he doesn’t have anything to prove. I’m sure he’s doing just fine watching the river flow.

And for anyone who really thinks that Phil might show up this weekend as a DeadCo guest at Oracle: Get serious.

>Any reports from the show?

Phil sounded great. Really sweet Uncle Johns band. Really helps to have  Amy Helm on vocals. And Elliott Peck too.

Beautiful setting for a show. More coming soon with announcement tomorrow.

Yes! He did show up, I was wrong. Not the first time. Bring it on for DeadCo! :)

Likely won't be the last either.

Keep on knowing, keep on growing!

I'm sure a good time was had by all who were there.

Including ol' Phil.

A beautiful setting and the weather was just about perfect. Marin folks are sly on keeping county treasures on the q.t. There were a few logistical bumps, but it went pretty good for a debut effort. Anybody like me who missed breakfast and got caught in the monster food line will likely agree that for events that size they need more than two food trucks. Easy lines for good cold beers and I had it made in the shade near the biergarten for most of the show.

Great to see many Zoners and TXR regulars, everybody a decade older, and the regulars exchanging hugs with the old TXR security guys.

Energy level went up many higher levels when Phil joined the All Stars. Somebody post the set list, please.

Will the second the above sell out or can I take my time w tickets ? Anyone have insight on this from buying tix to yesterday? It would be greatly appreciated.

Stafford Lake has a huge area to accommodate an event like this, been to many before. No rush on tickets....

>Wonderful day at McNear's with top notch performances from all the musicians.

oh yeah.

and an incredibly awesome laid back group of fans.

loved chatting with a couple who flew in from Virginia and another interloper who traveled from Argentina. Newly weds from San Bruno were sweet, and fun times with a few long time friends. apparently my nephew was there too but didn't know until today. d'oh.

he was commenting  on the FB that they didn't allow people to bring food in and only had 2 food vendors for a couple thousand hungry customers. Lines were like an hour long at times. we stopped for lunch on our way there but apparently it was an issue for him and his family - including a 3 year old. so hopefully that all gets addressed next time or we'll all need to smuggling in sandwiches next time.

TXR  on Facebook is committing to having more food available Next time.

I also started a new thread here for the upcoming event

Yep ^

but you really need to allow people to bring in a bag lunch (food/snacks) for an all day event - especially if it's sold as being kid friendly.

people will still buy the festival food.

The encore didn't happen due to time constraints ^

Don't tell anyone but I was letting people in and out all day. Come on man, people have needs.

That Peak guy, such a rebel.

It really was a beautiful, mellow day.

Who played bass on the songs before Phil joined?

Who played bass on the songs before Phil joined?

Hey Lance.  Brian Rashap & Graham Lesh played bass for the final set before Phil stepped in.  I can't remember if Reed Mathis took a turn.  I was pretty baked by the Sun and other factors.   Good times!

I only saw two service dogs.

Thanks for the info!
