Unbroken Chain Fillmore shows?

Forums:

So, zero comments about the three shows this weekend, did no one go?

Naturally I didn't end up making it in on Saturday so I have little to say, but I did watch a few videos and thought maybe there were too many players onstage, but then I don't know because I wasn't in the room.

I don't mind missing the music so much, I've heard all those songs a few times already, but it would have been nice to see some old friends. The Fillmore however is a true rock 'n roll hall, especially when it's packed, and the variety of hassles kept me in my comfy chair, leaving a little more room for the kids, who are more into it than I am now anyway.

All three SF shows had plenty of quality players each night, and I'm sure there were some excellent moments. Both sets of shows seemed to work on opposite sides of a country currently in flames; Phil continues to be the gift that keeps on giving.

Atta' boy Phil.

The comments and reviews I read on Facebook were mostly very positive and happy. We know people who were there (like Rob Scalcione, LLTD, others whose names I'm not thinking of right now).
I hope you get some fresh comments.

I had a ticket to Sunday nights show. Unfortunately I was the guy getting his VW Eurovan towed in front of the line as people were entering. EPC light wouldn't turn over. 92 mile tow later thanks AAA. Ticket didn't resell thanks to ticketbastard not giving me access to my ticket the whole last hour in order to lower the price. Hate that company since Pearl Jam 1996

Yeah kinda bummed the Cap and nuggs prevailed, yet Filmore and the Beer Garden in " The County" ummm a bit short for dis Frenchman, saw some fun stuff on utube Thanks Graham so cool and Thanks Rob the Phans still wanna know!

I was back east for a variety of family events so I caught two Cap shows (number 2 and 3) and enjoyed them both. Reports from friends that attended the Fillmore have all been positive with Saturday night being particularly good. Something about a Saint Stephen>Whole Lotta Love>Saint Stephen that apparently melted some faces......

Rick Mitarotonda, Oteil & Crosby are the biggest draws to these shows for me personally. Rick was one of Phil's last student at Phil Lesh & Friends University!! Thank you Phil for showing these younger musicians how to play this music. The gift that keeps on giving!

SOO many on stage! SOO much Phil love ..... nice to see Jerry & Phil's musical kids carrying the torch!

Was there Saturday night. It was an all star vocal night. If nothing else check out the first set Brokedown Palace. Hamilton drove the night so it was very JRAD sounding. Nels Cline looked a little lost, but that is to be expected. It was sooo good to hear Oteil up in the mix. It was fun and glad I went.

Complaint was the place was oversold and that I'm getting too old to stand that long so had to leave early.

>>>It was an all star vocal night<<<

That's what I was expecting after seeing the lineup. I really like both Elliott Peck and Nicki Bluhm, but it's usually one or the other at a show so I was looking forward to hearing both together. And Jen Hartswick is a fine singer and I'm sure she got a lead turn or two, but she can be a bit "overdramatic" for me.

>>>the place was oversold and that I'm getting too old to stand that long<<<

Exactly my thinking leading into that night. My compromise these days is to show up at intermission (and still get 2+ hours, you gotta' love jam bands) and that was my plan, but when the time came I just couldn't motivate.

Ultimately, I think it's really great that Grahame is carrying on his father's and TxRs legacy, I like almost all of the various players he uses and I'm sure the quality of all the shows is fine, but especially in my advancing years (decrepitude), without Phil or some other player/s of that level it's not really that upsetting for me to miss them.

That change in my psyche has taken some time & effort to come to grips with, but missing most shows doesn't bother me much anymore. BTDT.

That being said, all of YOU need to keep GOING TO THE SHOW!!!

Yeah I was impressed with how much Grahame stood back and let everyone else shine he did not make it about him.

I do have an unhealthy fascination with what comes next trying to read the tea leaves and as nice as this was you can't bring it on the road. Interesting that Jeff Chimenti and Mayer didn't participate at all, but they were never really part of the Phil orbit. I'm sure there is a swirl of activity behind the scenes and people are looking at the pot of Dead Co money sitting on the table.

And did we tell you the name of the game, boy,
We call it Riding the Gravy Train.

The only thing missing from these all-star line ups / events is the "group mind" that gave the GD the one-of-a-kind cosmic cohesion that touched on the spiritual and channeled the magical.

Hopefully one of these bands will lock themselves in a dilapidated Potrero Hill theater for days on end under the influence of copious amounts of acid and practice, practice, practice until they become one hand, not five fingers.

^^^^ This!

Jeff Chimenti was in Further, I love how he's played through the years and don't think to put him in the same world as John Mayer.

Yeah but Jeff was always Bobby's guy. As always I have no inside knowledge and don't know who if anyone played keys with Mayer before he did the Dead Co thing but I would be very surprised if Jeff doesn't end up playing on whatever comes next for Mayer. They seemed to develop a real bond on stage.
