They are still an item. The girl is totally in love with him...has been at our house every day since his recovery from a recent surgery has made it feasible. But now her parents are aware of the situation and do not approve. They told her yesterday that she had one year to find a nice Muslim boyfriend or face being disinherited.
Is this a form of discrimination that I should be pissed about? My son isn't good enough for their daughter because he's an infidel in his own country?

About parents telling their teen kids what is acceptable? My house my rules. Most of us heard that growing up. If you want to manufacture some outrage sure, but there's lots of parents who only want their kids dating within their religion. Not just Muslims.

Not uncommon really. Many people experience the pressure of marrying like kind.
An African-American friend told me her mother told her, "Don't bring him home if he can't use your comb."
My SIL has a mother who is Alabama several gens back to the English. His GG grandfather is buried in a confederate cemetery in Northern AL. He was born in Arkansas and is about as American as can be.
His father is from India. Some family members, including my mother, think of him as Indian and there is definitely prejudice.

Shakespeare dealt in AMND. "As Lysander tells Hermia, the course of true love never did run smooth. Often swift, short, and brief, love is besieged by class differences, by age differences, by war, by death, and by sickness." Cliff notes

Fafa, I'm not sure what you
Fafa, I'm not sure what you were going on about or the context, but it makes no sense. It's merely a way to put down the Left and the Women's March because they didn't rant about Islam.
Fact is, liberal or conservative, I highly doubt that one Zoner thinks it's okay to stone a rape victim for infidelity, or for women to not be able to drive or get an education.
Interestingly, I doubt that any Zoners have deep dealings with the nations that subjugate women in those ways. However, both our President and Secretary of State have and do.
So, you're angry at the Left for not speaking out about it, but have nothing to say to the people who make millions and billions through their dealings with the douchebag oppressors?
Why didn't you take your girls to the March and have signs about the Muslim subjugation of women? Do you actually care about it, or do you just care that the Left doesn't say enough about it?

"Why can't you find a nice
"Why can't you find a nice Jewish/Catholic/Southern/Italian girl" said thousands of parents since the beginning of time. Isn't that why Ivanka Trump converted to Judaism?
Mainly, this will be something the girl will have to work out with her parents. It sounds like she may want to step outside of their orbit an a number of ways. That can be a challenge depending on the dynamic of the parent/child relationsgip.
Has your son met the parents? That might be a good way for the girl to show her parents that he's a nice boy. I have a friend who married a muslim woman and had to "convert" to Islam before the wedding. FYI.

My wife works with someone
My wife works with someone who is muslim. He is a father with a daughter. She just got married in a PRE-ARRANGED marriage without meeting her to be muslim husband at age 21. It was all set up by the families. She did not have a choice. This is the way of life for them. Meet the father who is very nice though has his opinions due to a different way of life growing up. The father never consider the daughter not marrying someone from a pre-arranged muslim marriage. Got the feeling it is not only religion but monetary status in what family you would allow your daughter to be wed to another man. Is it right or wrong - hard for me to judge due to many parts of the world are very different then the US and we get insulated from other cultures and ways of life.
Not sure if this helps or not Rick though thought it was on topic and would share it...

Thinking more about this -
Thinking more about this - For a different perspective on this rick...
My wife and I have talked about this person and his way of life for years. What I have learned is the muslins have a honor code. If you break that code there are consequences. In other words, if some one in the muslim family does a disservice to the family they are shunned. They can not see the family ever again.
With the daughter dating your son she would be disinherited. This is a big deal for the women and her family and should be taken seriously.
If the tables were turned rick would you allow your son to marry someone though you would never see him again due to your strong believes against them getting married?
Have learned many things from this muslim man and see his side and try not to judge due to the WAY I WAS BROUGHT UP in the US. Am I being prejudice against a race I really know nothing about...except mostly thorough the media till I met this person and heard stories about the way they do things.

Patrick...my attitude is that
Patrick...my attitude is that when my kids are grown they make their own decisions about how to live their lives. That's how we raised them. If that were his choice, I'd have to abide by it. I might not like it, I might not agree with it, but I'd live with it.
Children are lent to us by our maker. I don't own them, therefore, I can't tell them what do do once they've reached the point that they can take care of themselves and don't need me anymore. I hope they want to stay in our lives. We are very close to our 30 year-old daughter and we let her decide on how she wanted to live, where, and with whomever she chose. She's a successful young woman engineer, a homeowner, a wife and a mother. I'd say it worked out pretty well.
Our son wants to be a neurologist and specialize in helping children with cerebral palsy. None of this came from us but from his own experiences with the condition and the amazing doctors and therapists who have helped get him to where he is today. After he heals from this surgery it would take an expert to pick up on the fact he has CP, mild as it may be. In fact, we were at a get together at Christmas time where a surgeon was present. I filled him in on Jake and he told me he would have never guess that Jake has CP. This is a testament to my son's intestinal fortitude and hard work. And he graduated a difficult high school with a 3.9 gpa and ACT of 28.
I like where he's headed at this point...
