Viva ZONER'S Personal PIRACY

Forums:

Argh, mateys. Got any misdeeds or tales of plundering to share?

Ho ho ho. Rum?

I hear you, Bss, but that's just the way it goes with spinoff threads sometimes. They make Chunk blow chunks.

I heard that a zoner pirated a Stanley Mouse image, made up some buttons and distributed 100 of them!

Er. Um.

Yeah, but Mouse got to sell at least two high-priced shirts that I know of (three if RRG figured out how to work the website) that probably wouldn't have been sold were it not for the whole button fiasco.

Mea culpa?

lol?

Hey, I'm just busting your chops. You did good, matey!

Trust me. My previous post was not composed with a straight face.

I hope you find your whale shark someday, Nanc. I really do.

I realize this thread will likely sink before it hits 20 posts (this is #16), but you won't convince me this isn't solid Post of the Year material:

My Moby dick awaits

Ahoy, frank3! I like that design too (not mine) and wish I had one for you but unfortunately I just gave away my last "extra" button. A kind & generous guy like Mike was passing them out like candy outside the Sept 2019 WolfBros show in Ventura.

How much did the pirate pay for his piercings?

A buck an ear.

It's like the Crimson Permament Assurance in here.

Wrong thread. Argh.

a retired pirate got a job at the mall kiosk piercing ears.

He charged a buck an ear

There are pirates everywhere.

not a big fan of spinoff threads.  like i always say, we can do better, zoners.

Without you we'd be nothing, JR. wink

Is this thread a little too Jimmy Buffet for you, JR?

Jimmy Buffett ok after after fall from stage

I heard he slipped when he blew out his flip flop and stepped on a pop top.

Good one Fog.

I've seen him live 4 times and twice(years apart) he had a broken leg.

I was watching the Netflix series on pirates of the Americas. To put is succinctly, a privateer without a commission was a pirate.

I know, a boring factoid in a spin-off thread, but I found it interesting.

> a boring factoid in a spin-off thread

It's even worse than that, BK. I spun this thread off of Racket's same-name spinoff of admin's pinned thread.

How was the pirates of americas show? Relative nonetheless.

Pretty good. I have to get back to it. I watched a few episodes. I few years ago I watched that show "Black Sails" on Starz. It turns out that it had some historical correctness.

Who doesn't love a good swashbuckling movie? They are rare these days. The last I can remember was "Master and Commander."

>>>To put is succinctly, a privateer without a commission was a pirate.

One of my favorite facts to drop on the kids when teaching.   Their brows would knot in consternation as seeds of existential angst began to germinate from the hypocrisy.

The part about the King getting a cut of the booty drove it home.

It's pretty interesting. All those sailors spent decades at sea, happily attacking and looting the Spanish Armada for the glory of the Crown. The war ended, all those sailors had no money, no jobs, and the Crown threw them to the wind. So, they said "fuck it" and continued to loot the Spanish ships. After a while they moved on to the French and British.

What were they supposed to do? They had literally given everything for the Crown, and then were left with nothing. The life of a sailor wasn't easy to start, and they were all battle-hardened.

I thought the first couple of episodes of the new Netflix pirate show was pretty good.   I have read a lot about the pirates who formed the first Western democracy in the Bahamas in the early 1700s, but it was hard to keep all the different characters straight and it was good to finally put faces to names in this well done documentary/costume drama.

That being said, their take on Blackbeard's last stand off Ocracoke Island following one the greatest beach parties in human history was a bit of a let down.  Its like they ran out of money for filming the battle and said, "oh well, this is good enough."   Also think they could do another season about the further exploits of Anne Boney and Calico Jack where the introduce Mary Read (who didn't appear in this season).
