Voting Rights Bill

Forums:

A one time tweak of the filibuster seems in order to me.

It's common knowledge repubs have zero integrity, now get out of your own damn way democrats, lets get this done.

I may have to revise my hatred of saban.

Unfortunately, don't see it happening.   Manchin gets off on being the fly in the ointment.

He's proven that he's looking out for his personal interests over that of the nation, why not remove the wind from his sails and primary him?

I realize he's got a difficult balancing act in WV and Dems would likely relinquish the seat, but what good is it doing if this is what we can expect when the chips are down?

It'd be interesting to see if Trumpers would actually back him in the long run ... many Trump loyalists who slightly strayed were cast as a RHINO for far less than what Manchin's record reveals.

Name a couple Democrat West Virginians that can/would defeat this former governor in a primary election...

>A one time tweak of the filibuster seems in order to me.<

Except any such change(s) would then become permanent, likely backfiring down the line, as we have seen from the change that Harry Reid pushed back when ole Mitch was yet again blocking all things DEM. That change, I believe, had to do with judicial nominees, hence the current/permanent low bar for that. I am not in favor of twisting Senate rules in a tantrum. A permanent change is not worth ramming through a well-intened bill that is unfortunately now bogged down by many ridiculous wish-list items.

I'm not familiar with existing Dem WV politicians, but do have faith someone with exquisite qualifications could be plucked from obscurity if Dems were serious about reform.

Dems need to dig in on principles and get serious about reform, instead of defaulting to status quo dysfunction that delivered Donald J. Trump to our nation.

I'm not saying it's an easy or clear pathway, but simply that one exists.

Unfortunately, the GOP's actions have spoken far louder than words over the past few years; rendering this a quaint ideal that has vanished.

While it was a great run of over 200 years, clearly, there's a shelf life to the "Cincinnatus effect" ... of the image of honor of George Washington stepping down & relinquishing power.

I don't necessarily disagree with you but just keep in mind that your team will not always be in power or "have the votes" to stop even worse BS than whatever the GOP has been shoveling over the past few years. Senate GOP "leadership" has even recently stated that they have a stack of bills that they know cannot currently garner 60 votes but likely could get at least 51 with the help of some potentially vulnerable DEMs on some "tough vote" issues. Manchin is an ass and barely a DEM from a state that could easily go full GOP so replacing him with some other DEM would not be an easy thing to do at this point either. There are a grip of other Senate DEMs whom are currently representing  pink or purple states under fairly similar circumstances. It's like a delicate puzzle and, obviously, DEM solidarity across issues is not really happening either.

The filibuster is anti-democratic, and has to go - completely.

What could be worse than seeking to overturn the Will of the People?

Stand by....they may just shock you yet. That is already happening and is child's play thus far.
