From the land of the Pennsylvania Dutch, I grew up with many pickled jarred treats such as this, chow chow, and 3 bean salad.
Usually the watermelon rind pickles were too sweet for my taste, it may just have been that particular family's recipe, I can picture the label but can't read it!
A friend brought me some ramps from France a couple of days ago. I made a very potent pesto, ramps are powerful flavor, and pickled the flower buds without sugar. We'll see how they turn out.
