Pretty cool. For a prototype wave pool, they did a damn good job. The competitors seem to dig it.

My guess is they don't want to slow things down if a competitor had to swim after their board. They could grab the surfer or board with a ski but I don't think they want skis driving around the pool during a heat.

I just watched part of it and they DO have skis driving around during heats, so I don't know. Maybe they have a leash sponsor.
