The Wedding Band (Metallica/Peter Green content)

So I took a buddy to a local music store yesterday (just north of Toronto) for a little Happy 50th B'day action for him. Kirk Hammett from Metallica has his horror movie collection at the Royal Ontario Museum and through that, ESP guitars was sponsoring his side project - The Wedding Band.

Kirk & Rob Trujillo from Metallica, Joey Castillo (one of the ex-drummers of Queens of the Stone Age), Whitfield Crane (vocalist from Ugly Kid Joe) & Doc Coyle (guitarist from a bunch of bands my kids might know) did about an hour long set of cover tunes for the 200 folks who were able to get tickets. Lady in front of us flew in from NYC for it, but there was a couple who flew in from Finland for the weekend and another couple dudes I spoke to from Rio. 

Full disclosure - I have never attended a Metallica show. I still have Kill 'em All & Ride the Lightning on vinyl and my youth was a blur of Iron Maiden, Metallica, Y&T, Queensryche, UFO/MSG/Fastway - your typical youth music in the Reagan era... 

It was fun as hell. We got to meet Kirk before and I let him know it was my friends b'day so he gave him a hug, told him Happy Birthday and gave him the pick out of his pocket for a present.

For the guitar folks, that Les Paul that Kirk is playing during an ESP Guitars sponsored event was the actual "Peter Green/Gary Moore" '59 Les Paul with reversed neck pickup magnets that Green Manalishi was written on. I was just glad to see it out getting played rather than living out its days on a wall somewhere - as most multi million dollar guitars would... Believe he dropped in the $2MM range for it - but it didn't seem like a cool thing to ask him in person.
