Pete Sears is a monster bass player and great keyboard player, but for total mastery of both instruments, including use of bass pedals on the organ, I would have to go with the former church choirmaster and organist, turned rock producer, turned rock god, "John Paul Jones on piano."

Pete doesn't play in the deep range enough for me... too much high end speed plucking (or whatever you call it). 

Laymon was a better fit, IMO.
