What the hell is Jersey Country?

Forums:

My buds, Reagan Richards and Gordon Brown, collectively Williams Honor, attempt to answer that question with this "secret" pre-album release of a song that I have listened to since it's live debut two years ago, Can't Wait 2B Ashamed. It's rather ironic, given the lyrics, that this song was first unleashed at a church. Give it a listen here and let me know what you think. https://youtu.be/EAyVxQoltGM

Reagan isn't know to many in the music world but she's done background vocals for the likes of Elvis Costello, Social Distortion, Bruce Springsteen and countless others. Gordon has been a part of the Jersey music scene for a long time, fronting bands such as Mr. Reality and Highway 9. They will be doing some heavy touring this year and the band they have put together is seriously talented. If you get a chance to see them, go for it. I promise you that regardless of what you think of country or Jersey, you will walk away a fan.

My Camaro broke down and my cockatoo died

My heart is breakin' for my bird and my ride . . .

I got them Exit 13 Blues

Sorry.  My Jersey stereotypes are a bit dated.

your from Jersey? what exit?

I have no idea but I did meet a couple there while on tour in '89 and hubby kept saying, "when you're from Jersey...it's like...get the Fuck outta here!"

Calling Disco Stu..............................

I liked that song! She has a good powerful voice.

And NJ is a beautiful state!

Thank you for the feedback on the song. From the first time I heard it around 3 years ago, I thought it was catchy as hell. Reagan's voice is strong. I've seen her sing some Led Zeppelin covers during encores and you get blown away on how good it is. This past weekend in a festival ending jam she handled the female voice in The Stones' Gimme Shelter and was probably the best part of that jam.

As for New Jersey being a beautiful state, while I may be biased as a native, I totally agree with you.

People have their right to dis on Jerseyland;  after all we got some legendary Slums, Camden and Newark.

However,  there are lots of nice Beaches,  rural Farms,  Hick towns no one has ever heard of,  Historic places...
I stick around for the Excellent Pizza and Cheese Steaks.

Been to every state except Alaska and Deep South;  their Pizza is awful.  At least I can get a decent slice around here.

John Gorka. I love this guy. Seen him many times. He has some great tunes. Here's his tune "I'm From New Jersey" live. You guys should enjoy it.  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XJ-8dG2qp1o

So unpretentious. I got to do a 2 day song school with him in Salt Lake, and he was an instructor at the Folk Fest Song School in Lyons, CO and he gave me some advice that really changed the way I looked at one of my songs and really boosted me for the better. He's so kind.

And speaking of Jersey, I has some great experiences there hitchiking across the country Back in '80. And that Garden State Parkway is pretty. Drove it in '05.

John Gorka is a fantastic performer and songwriter. On a special Valentine's Day show that paired John and former gf, Christine Lavin at The Bottom Line in NYC, i took the stage and sang I'm From New Jersey as well as Lavin's Sensitive New Age Guys. That was fun!

yes

Great story, Tony. What a treat for you! Way cool. So where's the video? LOL.

Funny you should mention Christine. She was the instructor at another song school in Salt Lake I attended. I carried her bags for her at a gig at Snowbird YEARS ago.

Both are so kind. These song schools were part of Utah Arts Fest weekend and of course, had to go onstage for "Sensitive New Age Guys."

We're both so lucky to have been able to experience these performers (and great humans) up close and personal.  https://christinelavin.com/

Christine Lavin will always have a special place in my (male) heart. I was in a hip cast recovering from a skiing injury one night and was attending a concert at The Bottom Line. Alan Pepper knew I was a regular and set me up in the VIP riser so I had some more room for my cast. She noticed the cast and said that Alan should have done more and she was going to take care of it. In about 5 mins she walked up with a group of absolutely gorgeous women to sit at the table next to me and my group. She then introduced me to Carol Alt, Claudia Schiffer and a couple others whose names escape me.  My depression over my injury was cured. Somehow hanging out with a bunch of super models and having them signing my cast and making sure I wasn't sinking into more depression was just the ticket for a really fun night. :-)

Wow, Tony. That's AMAZING. What a memory for you!

Yeah. It is a fond memory. lol
