Why all the weather hype?

Forums:

We got more rain than snow the other day. They talked about it for days before with all the warnings about how to dress(layers), how to shovel snow properly(take lots of breaks), and how to drive(don't, oh please God, don't). School closed, no shops open, travel ban, etc. . All that they talked about on the news was the weather(yardstick, anyone?)

Today they are warning of possible snow on Saturday. Why do they do it?

You may want to switch to Decaf?  (j/k)

It was bad in Jersey. Didn't quite get the amount of snow they were saying but the winds and the temperature made it very shitty.

I feel bad for all the business owners who lost money by closing for no reason.

measured 27" in our backyard, second largest recorded snowfall for burlington vermont, much of city chut down yesterday, lots of cross country skiing around town. :)

That band of snow sat over us yesterday. We got another 14" on top of the 2' from the main blast.

the media love to hype you all up, and talk to you like little kids.....

The local news has always loved to hype snow storms. This isn't anything new.

The internet is buzzing that the national weather service hyped this storm to distract us from all the bs going down in DC.

Pretty laughable if you ask me.

We got almost 2 feet in northwest CT.  Thankfully I'm on the beach in FL.

Well, it is owned by Blackstone/Bain, so who knows?

I didn't say it was anything new. I just wonder why. Money, I guess.

Remember when there was news on the "news"?

By "it" I meant TWC - tops in storm hyping.

why??

it distracts you, and reduces your experience as a human to a simple minded and easily controllable unit ....

turn off your goddammed TV and phone!!

>> I didn't say it was anything new. I just wonder why. Money, I guess. <<

Well, duh. How do you think TV and entertainment in general works?

jonny be too good for that, tho. Go, jonny, go!

I used to work at a major metro newspaper. People love weather news, and the funny thing is reporters hate reporting on it. They basically view it as punishment. That said weather prediction is not a perfect science and people are stupid. If you told them they might get a mix of rain and some snow or they could get 3 feet of snow most people will ignore the warnings and then complain no one told them it could be that bad. So they report on the worst possible scenario for everyone. Finally making people afraid is good for ratings.

Print media is impotent when it comes to weather. WAY behind the curve.

Don't you use that tone with me, ned

if had the option, i do not understand why anyone would choose to live on the east coast. place is a shit hole compared to the west.

Fuck the west coast n.y.c.is the place to be.

High-rise buildings

Well if it was up to me, I'd still be in Seattle or thereabouts. Jr and I could stroll hand in hand around Green Lake on the sunny days.

If only...

hounder, you could come over for gong hits n'all.

Why all the welfare hype?
