Why do storm reporters have to be outside?

Forums:

I mean really --- we know it's raining hard. Can't they just stay inside and point the camera outside thru a window?

After a bit, watching soaking wet reporters getting pummeled (with the camera lens covered in raindrops), shouting over the wind, is kinda stupid.

We get it -- it's a hurricane.

I've been in a major earthquake, near big fires, and dodged a tornado --- but being in hurricane Andrew (category 4- 5 at landfall) felt the most dangerous.

Paving stones and coconuts ripping by the house at 90 miles an hour. Afterwards, big boats way up in trees.

They love it - they'd be out there for free.

But mama....thats where the fun is....

Perhaps it's because we "expect" them to?

When Sandy hit, Jim cantore's broadcast gave me an idea of how bad it was at home. However,  you know it's  going to be bad when jim cantore is a few miles up the road from your house.
