Wild Mushroom Season

Forums:

Yesterday was the best day yet. About 9000 feet elevation. Never seen a day where we couldn't walk without finding Bolete and Amanitas and Hawk Wings left and right. IMG_20210804_193819_355.jpg

Don't eat that red one.

Yes, it's been a bumper crop up at altitude in CO this year. Wettest summer in many years.

Ate Hawk Wings and Porcinis with yellow summer squash for dinner last night. I admire the Amanitas and Coral but let them be.

Nice!

We get the best in a month or so here in CT. When I was a kid there was a freezer at my grandparents house that only housed wild mushrooms. Big fan and I still try and keep the foraging going.

Having a meal of fresh morels is on the bucketlist

Nice shots!

I believe there's a safe way to consume limited amounts of amanitas for their desired effect, but I can't actually tell you anything useful on this front so would defer to ned's warning.

What I've found weird is how last summer I literally did not see a single mushroom.  I didn't realize they can lay dormant for the long term.

Amazing
I wonder if any varieties have picked up some smokiness flavor from this summers atmosphere

Last summer these came up where a huge old maple was in my yard:

We got skunked the last two years. This year made up for it.

Coral - I don't know the latin name. I just love the way it looks.
