Wintering in San Miguel de Allende, Guanajuato, Mexico

Forums:

Hello phriends-

My GF and I have been in San Miguel de Allende ( SMA) for almost two weeks now.

We left central California right after the rocking Goose show at the Frost.

There are lots of Americans and foreigners from all over the world here as it's a popular tourist destination, especially during the day of the dead celebration at the end of October.

I suspect some Zoners have been here so I figured I'd start a thread and maybe get directed to some favorite hangouts.

SMA is a pretty amazing place,  all in all, with alot of spanish colonial architecture, loads of places to eat and awesome weather: 50's at night, 70's with a breeze in the day.

I'll post some pics and see where it goes from here.

have you been to mercado de artesanias yet?

I love San Miguel! Spent a week there in 2016, beautiful town!

Yes, we currently live just down the street from mercado of artisansas and had liquados, and tortas for breakfast there before we filled up our Frida Kahlo bag with fruit, & veges. On Saturday we found this great little shop with cool artifacts from this guy who rock hounds in the desert after eating mescalito he forages for there. I'll post a pic:

Enjoy, looks like a great place to relax

Looks like an interesting place.

They should have a plaque by the tracks where Neal died.....

Caution Do Not Pass Out In The Freezing Cold On Tracks

Always wanted to visit there.  The pictures are great!

There's a good description of it in Hardcore Troubadour: The Life And Near-Death Of Steve Earle.  Steve and Townes Van Zandt spent some wasted time there before Steve got sober.  German silver mining town in the hills as I recall.  Cooler temps and more of a European design.  Sounds divine.

lookin' good buddy, chillaxico

Shopping at the local  flea market.

Can you pick me up at the airport?

Yes Mark, i will pick you up at the airport and you can stay in our extra room,  or i can hook you up with a nice inexpensive studio.

I wish.

Wow, Looks Great!  Envious.

Was it difficult getting the dog across the border?

Not really. We took her in a small soft carrier aboard a 3 1/2 hour flight. She was a bit fidgety towards the end though, and was glad when it was done, as it was her first flight. Officially, she had to have a health certificate, all vaccinations, a microchip and a paid reservation.
All of that was sort of a hassle but we're glad she's along and after a couple adjustment days seems to be

enjoying the lifestyle too.
