Witch hunt: more witches on Friday the 13th?

Forums:

stay tuned....

looks like it wasn't a 400 pound kid in his mom's basement who hacked the DNC.

12 Russian military intelligence (GRU) officers, named and indicted for hacking into the DNC and state election software.

DC leaks and Guccifer.

Whoa - could the "unnamed conspirator" be the Trump campaign?

^^  HILLARY!!!

LOCK HER UPS!!

Whoa Putin is NOT going to be happy about this, Donald’s work-review might not go as well as it was.

The indictment does not allege that any Americans knowingly participated in the hacking

I think this is the official thread about trump and the Russians fixing the election

That's right, Ender, THIS indictment. I get the feeling another one is coming.

>>>>The indictment does not allege that any Americans knowingly participated in the hacking

Maybe not for the Hillary hacking but...

The full list of known indictments and plea deals in Mueller’s probe

1) George Papadopoulos, former Trump campaign foreign policy adviser, pleaded guilty in October to making false statements to the FBI.

2) Michael Flynn, Trump’s former national security adviser, pleaded guilty in December to making false statements to the FBI.

3) Paul Manafort, Trump’s former campaign chair, was indicted in October in Washington, DC on charges of conspiracy, money laundering, and false statements — all related to his work for Ukrainian politicians before he joined the Trump campaign. He’s pleaded not guilty on all counts. Then, in February, Mueller filed a new case against him in Virginia, with tax, financial, and bank fraud charges.

4) Rick Gates, a former Trump campaign aide and Manafort’s longtime junior business partner, was indicted on similar charges to Manafort. But in February he agreed to a plea deal with Mueller’s team, pleading guilty to just one false statements charge and one conspiracy charge.

5-20) 13 Russian nationals and three Russian companies were indicted on conspiracy charges, with some also being accused of identity theft. The charges related to a Russian propaganda effort designed to interfere with the 2016 campaign. The companies involved are the Internet Research Agency, often described as a “Russian troll farm,” and two other companies that helped finance it. The Russian nationals indicted include 12 of the agency’s employees and its alleged financier, Yevgeny Prigozhin.

21) Richard Pinedo: This California man pleaded guilty to an identity theft charge in connection with the Russian indictments, and has agreed to cooperate with Mueller.

22) Alex van der Zwaan:This London lawyer pleaded guilty to making false statements to the FBI about his contacts with Rick Gates and another unnamed person based in Ukraine.

23) Konstantin Kilimnik: This longtime business associate of Manafort and Gates, who’s currently based in Russia, was chargedalongside Manafort with attempting to obstruct justice by tampering with witnesses in Manafort’s pending case this year.

Two ex-Trump advisers lied to the FBI about their contacts with Russians

Michael Flynn

Mario Tama/Getty

So far, no Trump associates have been specifically charged with any crimes relating to helping Russia interfere with the 2016 election.

The closest we’ve come to that is that both Papadopoulos and Flynn both now admit that they lied to the FBI about their contacts with people connected to the Russian government. (Papadopoulos’s contacts took place before the election, and Flynn’s after it.)

Papadopoulos: Back in April 2016, Papadopoulos got a tip from a foreign professor he understood to have Russian government connections that the Russians had “dirt” on Clinton in the form of “thousands of emails.” He then proceeded to have extensive contacts with the professor and a Russian woman, during which he tried to plan a Trump campaign trip to Russia.

But when the FBI interviewed Papadopoulos about all this in January 2017, he repeatedly lied about what happened, he now admits. So he was arrested in July, and later agreed to plead guilty to a false statements charge and start cooperating with Mueller’s probe.

Flynn: In December 2016, during the transition, Flynn spoke to Russian Ambassador Sergey Kislyak about sanctions that President Barack Obama had just placed on Russia, and about a planned United Nations Security Council vote condemning Israeli settlements.

But when FBI agents interviewed him about all this in January 2017, Flynn lied to them about what his talks with Kislyak entailed, he now admits. In December 2017, Flynn pleaded guilty to a false statements charge and began cooperating with Mueller’s investigation.

Both Papadopoulos and Flynn may now be providing Mueller’s team with information that could incriminate others in Trump’s orbit. But we haven’t seen the fruits of their cooperation just yet.

Yep, No allegations in THESE indictments.

This is about 12 Russians indicted ONLY.

Speaking to this ^^^ ONLY!

Is that easier for you to understand now Ender?

Stone and Asange should be on deck according to my sources

Didn't Roger Stone boast of his contact with Guccifer?

Agree Bucky!!

Lock Rudy up now. He knew about the hack and that's why Trump hired him to shut him up with attorney client privilege.

I thought you guys liked whistleblowers (Mannfred excepted, he's been rock solid on hating them).

You aren't happy to find out your primary was rigged so you could fix it?

As a Bernie primary voter, I was hella mad. Guess the Russians fooled me.

You guys? Are you not from the United States?

Project much, ender? LOL

For anyone who thinks that this will affect Trump, it won't. His top people may get indicted, and he'll still win the next election.

Deal with it.

>>As a Bernie primary voter, I was hella mad. Guess the Russians fooled me.

Why were you mad? The DNCs process wasn't rigged. Bernie knew all about the superdelegates before he jumped in to the race. He also knew that there was no way that he could win.

It's a tough reality, but the superdelegates vote for the Party. Bernie has never been a democrat.

Said EVERY Jill Stein voter after the stolen election.

The indictment also makes the point that none of this activity had any effect whatsoever on the result of any election:

"The indictment does not allege that Trump campaign associates were involved in the hacking efforts or that any American was knowingly in contact with Russian intelligence officers.

The indictment also does not allege that any vote tallies were altered by hacking."

I didn't vote for him in the primary (first time in 30 years he didn't get my vote). I've always thought that he's more effective in the Senate than he would be as POTUS, and I'll vote for him again for Senate.

Bernie lost the southern black votes to HRC and that spelled his doom. He had to play catch up from that point on. Bernie group didn't do enough outreach to that group until it was to late.

>>>   The indictment also makes the point that none of this activity had any effect whatsoever on the result of any election.

I've read the indictment, Thom.

I challenge you to find that in the document.

Instead of claiming it had no effect, it makes no statement whatsoever about the impact, but makes clear this was a conspiracy to interfere in the election, and points to the intensive nature of the effort.  E.g.:

If these hacks did not matter, why did Donald bring them up over 100 times during the last month of the election?

http://www.politifact.com/truth-o-meter/statements/2017/apr/21/jackie-sp...

These emails were characterized by Trump and her other critics as showing Clinton held policy positions in private that were different from her public positions, that she received town hall topics in advance, and that they demonstrated negative internal dynamics inside the Clinton campaign.

Trump repeatedly brought up the emails, encouraged his supporters to see them for themselves, and also described several revelations inaccurately.

Let’s replay some of the biggest hits.

"The WikiLeaks revelations have revealed a degree of corruption at the highest levels of our government like nothing we have ever seen as a country before,"  Trump said at a rally in Colorado on Oct. 29.

"Hillary Clinton, as WikiLeaks proves, is a corrupt globalist," he said at a rally on Oct 21.

"I love WikiLeaks," he said on Oct. 10.

Classic deflection from the Ender^^^

Chait:

http://nymag.com/daily/intelligencer/2018/07/mueller-indictment-shows-tr...

On July 27, 2016, Donald Trump denied Russia was the likely culprit in the email hacks, but also announced, “Russia, if you’re listening, I hope you’re able to find the 30,000 emails that are missing. I think that you’ll be rewarded mightily by our press.”

In what is possibly an astonishing coincidence, but probably not, that very night, according to the new indictments from the Department of Justice, Russians hackers “attempted after hours to spearphish for the first time email accounts at a domain hosted by a third-party provider and used by Clinton’s personal office. At or about the same time, they also targeted seventy-six email addresses at the domain for the Clinton campaign.” Trump asked Russia to hack his opponent, and Russia did “… [f]or the first time,” as the indictment says.

Today’s latest, and almost certainly not last, indictments in the Russia scandal concern 12 Russian intelligence figures. The charge that Russians carried out the email theft is not a terribly surprising one, nor does it by itself suggest serious legal jeopardy for President Trump or his associates. Robert Mueller can’t arrest people in Russia, after all. The danger for Trump is the implication of collusion scattered throughout the indictments.

The indictment charges that the conspirators “received a request for stolen materials from a candidate for the U.S. Congress,” and “sent the candidate stolen documents.” The Wall Street Journal reported a year ago that “Guccifer 2.0,” one of the Russian hackers, communicated with Florida-based Republican operative Aaron Nevins. Nevins is not named in this indictment, but the revelation that a candidate also communicated with Russian hackers indicates yet another point of contact in a conspiracy that went beyond Trump’s campaign.

The most direct path to the Trump campaign indicated in this indictment runs through Roger Stone. The Republican dirty trickster officially left the Trump campaign in 2015, but remained in regular contact with Trump throughout the campaign.

Stone admittedly engaged in direct communication with one of the indicted Russian agents. The indictment cites Stone’s contact with Guccifer 2.0:

...

That certainly looks like acting as an accessory to a crime. Stone promises he will “never roll on Trump,” unlike John Dean, who fingered President Nixon for crimes during Watergate. The promise and the analogy both suggest that Stone has evidence of culpabality between Trump and Russia.

Trump’s lawyer Rudy Giuliani writes, “The indictments Rod Rosenstein announced are good news for all Americans. The Russians are nailed. No Americans are involved. Time for Mueller to end this pursuit of the President and say President Trump is completely innocent.” The absurdity of this defense is so palpable it underscores the sheer desperation of Trump’s legal defense. As Giuliani surely understands, the prosecution is building its case step by step, and the absence of formal charges against an individual in any one indictment hardly indicates they are in the clear. President Trump has been all but charged with collusion in this indictment.

also references other russians persons “known and unknown” to the grand jury, and describes these known and unknown persons as “conspirators”  (paragraph 2) who, stages a large scale effort to interfere with the elections

Pretty clear more indictments are coming.

Also, contact with a GOP operative and a request from an unnamed congressional candidate for stolen materials.

Seriously, any collusion by Trump aside, this investigation needs to go on because we really need to know this stuff.  Prosecute people who should be caught but mostly EVERYONE needs to be on notice to be more careful and afraid of getting caught if they participate. And the rest of us need to be a little more discerning.

Last but not least, on Aug. 15, 2016, a “candidate for the U.S. Congress” requested stolen documents from the Russians posing as Guccifer 2.0. They obliged, and “sent the candidate stolen documents related to the candidate’s opponent.” The congressional candidate in question hasn’t been identified

Why would skillful "hackers" (or any intelligent person) use bitcoin as payment and means to facilitate crimes of this magnitude? It's transaction ledger is public and searchable.

It's just common sense to use any number of untraceable payment methods and a "hacker" would definitely know that.

can anyone explain why the conspirators searched for terms used in the guccifer post, before they made the guccifer post???

Ender - Is Bitcoin a "crypto currency"?

Marcy Wheeler is o MSNBC right now!

>> can anyone explain why the conspirators searched for terms used in the guccifer post, before they made the guccifer post???

Maybe for the same reason developers diff files before they commit them to a repository?

They want to make sure someone else on their team hasn't already made the change or made a conflicting change (ie someone on their team might have already posted the guccifer post and they don't want to double it).

>>>>>Marcy Wheeler is o MSNBC right now!

“diff files”?

are you saying that they basically wanted to make sure they didn’t start two threads and get “emily”d big time by having two of them pretend to be romanian hackers at the same time?

ps pretty wild Mueller has their searches.

Ender - They used American aliases.

>> are you saying that they basically wanted to make sure they didn’t start two threads and get “emily”d big time by having two of them pretend to be romanian hackers at the same time?

Yes, they didn't want to reveal they were many and not one. That's my uneducated guess to your question.

thanks, that makes sense.

OK, I just rewatched via boob tube Rod Rosenstein’s opening statement.

He said they conspirators “interfered” with the election.

Doesn’t that imply that the hack, wikileaks, and the Trump campign working with wikileaks impacted the election?

>>>He said they conspirators “interfered” with the election.

For HRC hack until next round

>>> OK, I just rewatched via boob tube Rod Rosenstein’s opening statement.

He said they conspirators “interfered” with the election.

Doesn’t that imply that the hack, wikileaks, and the Trump campign working with wikileaks impacted the election?

BINGO!

It seems like the basis of the Rosenstein announcement today was that Hillary's emails were indeed hacked by Russian operatives, let's take that at face value and assume that is true, it seems like it was either hackers or Seth Rich, I'm honestly not sure, but that's not the point, let's for the sake of the discussion say it was Russian hackers that gave Wikileaks the emails, does it matter at all the content of those emails prove without a shadow of a doubt that the democratic primary was completely rigged against Bernie Sanders?  That seems to get lost in the madness of how these emails were obtained.

I get both sides of the discussion, I get all the talking points, but doesn't it matter on some level that the Democratic Party was an absolute scam?  That seems to get lost in the debate.  For instance, how does Bernie feel this evening?  It would just be refreshingly honest if someone acknowledged the despicable nature of the content of the "hacked" emails, the irony is the debate has seemingly crystallized into the theory that the election was stolen by the unauthorized publication of evidence that the democratic primary was stolen...but I've yet to see anyone admitting that.

does it matter at all the content of those emails prove without a shadow of a doubt that the democratic primary was completely rigged against Bernie Sanders?

It matters less than the fact that Bernie isn't a Democrat.  That seems to get lost in the debate.

I disagree

next round of indictments will be interesting

^

Brick?

>>> I get both sides of the discussion, I get all the talking points, but doesn't it matter on some level that the Democratic Party was an absolute scam?

These indictments have NOTHING to do with the fact you think on some level the Democratic Party is/was an absolute scam.

>>> That seems to get lost in the debate.

You want to "talk about" what's wrong with the parties, go start a thread on it, you'll get a lot of interesting responses.

This is complicated stuff and not everybody has the time to follow or wade through "muddied water".

So in this VERY important part of history...

Why don't we try to stick to facts NOT Whataboutism.

First off...good morning, happy Saturday, I hope all is well with everyone!  I should preface my remarks by saying I have admiration & respect for everyone here, I certainly don't know that Seth Rich downloaded Podesta's emails onto a thumb drive and gave them to Julian Assange, but I'm certainly not convinced that didn't happen, I don't think that qualifies as ghoulish, if Seth did that it was out of love for his country having witnessed the organized theft of the nomination process first hand.  I'm not sure anyone on this board can say definitively if that did or did not happen, I know I can't.

The discussion point I was attempting was that the emails got to Assange one of two ways, and for the sake of the discussion assuming what Rosenstein said yesterday was truth...that it was Russian operatives, let's for a moment go with that, is it not somewhat ironic that the operational theory put forth is that the outcome of the presidential election was unjustly impacted by the exposure of the primary of that very election having been rigged?  That seems to get lost in the discussion.  For instance, let's imagine for a moment the DNC didn't steal the primary from Bernie, there would be no outrage if Wikileaks's published the emails or not, and according to theory the people in Pennsylvania, Ohio, Michigan & Wisconsin that changed their vote from Clinton to Trump would have voted Clinton, or Bernie would have won the primary on a level playing field and beat Trump.

The only thing I'm attempting to bring forward here is nobody seems to be making any mention of the elephant in the room that if it weren't for the fact the primary was stolen, the chain of events wouldn't have been triggered in the first place, feel free to kill the messenger.

Much love to everyone here, have a beautiful day!

Passive aggressive narration based on Trumped up distraction not a first around here.

But, we'll try to keep you focused on what's important to the fate of our Democracy.

Country before Party.

Enjoy your Sunday!

Have a great weekend!

One of the exciting things for me to engage with this group is in my experience I've come to associate this community with the best and brightest, I think we can all humbly acknowledge it's a bright group of people who have gravitated towards this scene, if you leave your preconceived notions at the door and with an open mind study this video, I think you'll understand what I'm getting at, the only thought I'm putting forth here is if it were not for the underhanded nature of the DNC, there would be no Wikileaks dynamic, Bernie quite likely would have won the primary & the general election...if however Hillary could have won fair & square, according to current theory, she could have possibly won, if you blame Wikileaks.

The irony is the corruption of the DNC is as culpable as any Russian operative, on a level playing field Bernie would be in the White House.

Regardless of your views, I appreciate the discussion, much love to the group, our scene & Phil Lesh...the dream dreamed one afternoon long ago is alive and well, it's a beautiful thing that we're all here to tell the tale, Namaste!

Why did they refuse FBI assistance with the hacking of their server & go with a private company? Since St Mueller offered several times I'm shocked the DNC didn't accept such divine intervention

p.s.   Lifelong Republican, Vietnam combat marine war hero and FBI Director appointed by GWBush Robert Mueller III (aka Bobby Three Sticks) wasn't working for the FBI in 2016.

What did crowdsource ask for? nothing?

Would democracy had been better served if the DNC's shenanigans remained secret?

...or if they never happened at all?
