Just like in 97, it snows a couple feet of snow then a warm rain storm comes and melts it all starting all the flooding. So far this winter the foothills has gotten over 30 inches of rain. Looks like rain all this week.
Eastern sierras got 4 feet and counting in the last 24 hours. 12 feet plus forecasted. Check out that link I posted above, some pictures starting on page 9. This is years in the making, it will flood but the states drought will end. There it is, I called it. Hang tight folks! This is a big one.
That being said, Squaw Valley got 3 ft. of snow yesterday with the foothills getting 4 inches of rain. I80 was a mess with both lanes closed off and on all day.
Restaurants in Colfax were running out of food, people dancing in the streets, stuck for hours trying to get over the pass.
The news reports are saying the foothills could be getting 10 inches of rain over the weekend.
"On-going Atmospheric River continues to bring heavy snow to the forecast area and will bring a complex mix of dangerous avalanche problems" http://www.esavalanche.org/
Grass Valley got 7 inches of rain yesterday, making it a total of 15 inches since Friday. The rivers are over flowing, trees are falling all over. So far we are up to 45+ inches this winter avg. is 50 inches. Lots of snow in the mountains.
I was in San Francisco yesterday with heavy rain, the ride home was unreal. Pouring down rain wind gusts up to 50 mph. I80 was insane, 100's of cars driving without their lights on, lots of fog etc. Sacramento broke rain records with 3 inches. BeNice did a great job driving home. We saw 3 accidents on the way home, all people driving to fast. Most of the hotels were booked up with PG&E, Caltrans or Sheriffs from all over the state.
We are very grateful we made it home safe and sound.
Viva Judit! It just started to rain again, tomorrow should be sunny. The snow in the mountains is insane, the most in years.
