X is a rock 'n roll band!

Forums:

I've long trumpeted the glories of X, but lately they've started to lose me, especially the last time I saw them, which basically sucked.

I gave up one them after that show in Santa Cruz; they were terrible that night.

They play a different show than they used to, with Billy Zoom weakened from his illness, now starting with a number of semi-acoustic songs, which hasn't really worked for me except once out of three or four shows I've seen with this "new" X.

But tonight in a little club in San Jose they showed me, as the Grateful Dead often showed me, don't give up... they're not done QUITE yet!

X ROCKED TONGHT!!!!

GOD DAMN THEY'RE A ROCK 'N ROLL BAND OF THE AGES!!!

These people aren't in the rock 'n roll Hall of Fame???

Whatever, they ARE Hall of Famers!

I'll now absolutely be seeing them at least once in San Francisco this weekend - four shows starting Thursday with Mike Watt and his brilliant, evil Emerson,Lake & Palmer band.

Damn these guys are great.

Damn rock 'n roll is great.

GO TO THE SHOW!

(X still rocks!!!!!!!)

See, good things come from Southern California...

I like the band Watt played with on my 40th. Second drummer and an organ player.

Aren't three of the four members from Illinois?

Nonetheless - X has always been a favorite!

Good show last night in Fresno.  It was my first time at this venue.  Cool little shorty club.  Reminded me of a shittier version of the Belly Up.

Hoover, can you comment on any possible reason why Billy Zoom doesn't play a Les Paul anymore, instead using a hollow body electric?

It still sounds good and all, but it doesn't have that edgy SNARL a Les Paul always has.

Billy made this change after he got sick; is the guitar he uses now easier in some way to play?

The sonic nuclear bomb X used to be is different now, obviously in the first part of their shows when John Doe uses an acoustic bass and DJ has to tone it down, but even when JD puts on his electric bass they still don't DESTROY the stage like they used to.

The show I saw the other night was the first time I really enjoyed them in this new, slightly gentler style, but I still miss the full rage.
