The Massacree always gave me the impression that Alice was a larger-than-life character, both in the song and in life itself. If there was a more iconic matriarchal figure of the 1960s, I can't think of who that might be.
Kind of surprisingly, there's a complete copy of the film of Alice's Restaurant up on youtube. It's not high-def, but it's very watchable:

Too bad my campaign to get Biden to name the Thanksgiving turkeys Arlo and Alice didn't work. And now that hope is gone.
That was for 2022 and 2023. I didn't put much effort in this year, and Biden named them after Delaware's state flower, Peach Blossom.
