I'm going back a long way, but MarkD should recognize my reference.
What do you think Mark? Thanks to a jolt of youth our boys are looking good and are having fun.
These kids look like they're for real and the vets are warming up; they're fun to watch again.
And that's far out.
GG!

Haven't seen a game in over a week but I'm digging it. I'll be watching later.
Keep it up - get the big crowds back in that ballpark. Yeah man.

I record and watch every game
I record and watch every game. Been a lot of fun lately. I have been a fan of Schmitt's going back to last yr in the minors. And then Spring Training this yr. But I have to admit that even I did not expect him to hit the ground running like he has. The bigger surprise to me though is Pat Bailey. Oh boy! We knew about the defensive ability at catcher, but where is this offense coming from? He was not this good in the minors. These two have really sparked the team and they are playing like 2021. Add the sudden emergence of Haniger and Conforto. They are all playing with swagger these days and it is great to see. Wisely has been mostly great on defense, hoping he gets going with the bat. But plenty of guys to step up right now and it is very fun to watch. And the bullpen has done a 180. Early on, they were one of if not the worst in baseball. They have been mostly lights out lately. Really good to see as some of our starters are struggling a bit.
If the season ended today, we would be in the playoffs.
GO GIANTS!

Ah yes, of course Klondike
Ah yes, of course Klondike would also remember the liking the kids reference, old man that he is.
That slogan goes back almost 40 years, and those kids turned out OK, hopefully this group is as good. Young, homegrown players are always exciting to root for, and there are likely a few more on the way soon.
It's a long season and what they're doing may not be sustainable, but after their wretched start, the past few weeks have been fun and I felt the need to start a thread.

Yeah Dave, I think your orange and black are better than our orange and black, but we're plucky.
And here in the BA the local teams are all broadcast, at least if you're on cable, and I think it's available to those a fair degree away. I have friends in Sacramento who get the Giants games, and Mark, you're not in the BA proper, do you have to jump through hoops to get the games?
But like everything else that will soon go away, as damned streaming and pay-to-play is taking over everything.
But I can't really complain, as I'm old enough to remember when a Giants game on TV was a big deal, when only 10 - 15 games a year were televised, or when miracle of miracles they were on the Saturday Game Of The Week with Joe Garagiola & Tony Kubek; but then the Giants were always bad so they were never on that show.
In those days it was thank god for transistor radios.

Meh. That's a fake number. There have been many more than 100 dingers that have gotten wet, but they only count the ones the Giants hit.
I say count them all or don't count them at all.
Always very cool to see one though, and Wade's was nice.

The Orioles take Game 1. Ump
The Orioles take Game 1. Ump had an interesting strike zone. Too bad for the Giants that Conforto swung at Ball 4. We rolled out the teeth of our bullpen tonight. Coulombe was nails, while Cano and Bautista were both a little shaky. Hope we get a good start tomorrow, because the rest of the Birds' pen is dicey right now.
Wish I was at this series, as these are my favorite teams in each league.

I have Direct TV Tom, so I get all the games not streamed. And I refuse to do the stream shit. Hoping NBCBA games outlast me.
I think opposing splash hits are in the 50's. Without Bonds, it would be a lot closer.
O's are an exciting young team. Hoping they win the AL East.

I'm glad the Giants don't play the Orioles more often.
Fuckers stole our colors.

Alright! Nice win!
Alright! Nice win!
The Orioles look good, but the Giants are hanging in there. Excellent game tonight from Cobb, he's really been a big part of things so far.
Casey Schmitt looks comfortable and excellent defensively at every position he plays and he's got a big league swing, but at some point he's going to have to learn how to take a pitch. Big league pitchers are just going to stop throwing him strikes, and batting him in the bottom of the order isn't doing him any favors.
IMO he should be hitting 2nd to protect him, at least until he learns how to lay off the nibbling junk, which is all he'll see hitting at the bottom of the order.
Other than that he looks like a big league player, and a guy who will be starting for the Giants for a LONG time to come.
Which is far out.
So tomorrow it's DeSclafani. He's been hit or miss, hopefully he's ON tomorrow.
Keep scrappin' Giants!!!!!!!

Question. What do Zoner Giants fans think about how Kapler has been managing? 2020 wasn't much of a season and 2021 still had a pretty hot roster. But, what about the last couple years?

That squeeze tonight was
That squeeze tonight was classic Humm Baby ball. Roger Craig was smiling down on that one for sure.
It was also fairly classic Kapler, who is always thinking and is doing just fine. These past few years he & his staff have gotten more out of less than any Giants manager I can think of.
2021 was a "hot roster"?? Well OK, that's the way it turned out, but that wasn't a 107 win roster, yet that's what Kapler and his staff coaxed out of them, and it was a minor miracle that last year's crappy team won 81 games, and they're doing it again this year, overcoming injuries, poor performances from some of their veterans and shaky starting pitching.
The haters harp on his use of the great modern evil, analytics, but whatever his group focuses on, they always have their team ready to play, and most importantly they keep things positive. Any high school coach can manage a baseball game, but over the course of a season Kapler clearly manages the clubhouse well, which in the long run is more difficult and much more important. That's what Bochy was best at as well.
Like all managers, Kapler isn't perfect, but he's proven to be damn good, and this year's team is just percolating, with no big stars but lots of depth and a strong bullpen. If they can get fully healthy, get a few of their proven hitters to really get to where they've been in the past and upgrade their starting pitching just a bit (their biggest issue and most difficult to fix) they could develop into a real pain in the NL.
A very nice win tonight, with that safety squeeze being a big but likely unintentional nod to the Humm Baby himself.
Keep it going Giants!!!!!!
And.....
HUMM BABY!!!!!!!!!
