Oh for fucks sake. At least the climate had the decency to wait until after String Summit for the return of 95+ temps in the PNW. Been relatively mild summer so far.
Year-round, Ned? That sounds like heaven for half of the year, but how's the other half?
I've been thinking about that old Twilight Zone episode, the Midnight Sun, lately. The Earth suddenly changed its elliptical orbit and in doing so began to follow a path which gradually, moment by moment, day by day, took it closer to the sun.
Another lifetime ago. 92 to 94 something like that. I do know my first year there it snowed in August and then in February we got something like 30 days in a row. At one point all passes were closed and we were cut off.
If you were at Summit Daily you might have dealt with my wife at the time who was the director of the Film Festival and the Ice Sculpting Festival. She also worked at Eric's.
So one of my favorite Breckenridge stories is from the film festival which isn't a very good festival as those go. They had to pay stars to come like Angela Bassett. Well one year they paid Gary Busey to come and at the last minute he told the festival organizers that he was going to bring his girlfriend. Well it turns out she had a film credit so the festival scrambled to get it in the program and show it. So the night of the screening Gary Busey is there with his girlfriend and they start to screen her movie, and the movie is just incredibly bad. Like can't even follow the movie bad. About an hour in they stop the film and the projectionist makes an announcement that he played the reels out of order by mistake and that he will start playing the middle reel for those who want to stay, but the movie was so bad that no one had noticed that the reels were out of order.
Well Gary Busey starts to loose his shit. He stands up in the theater and starts yelling at everyone and anyone about how the whole town is incompetent and on and on. So if you ever wondered why people in Breckenridge refer to Gary Busey as Gary Abusive that is why.
On a better note I did get to meet these college kids who made a film called Alfred Packer the Musical who ended going on to some bigger things.
the previous 9 days have all been 100f or above, this is the next 7 2012 saw 21 days above 100. That was a new record; easily expected to break that record this summer. Not even August yet.
Also, the worst drought since 1921, previous to the Dust Bowl. Next Thursday is supposed to be 98 with good chances of rain, but that's a week out. Feel terribly sorry for the homeless , critters., and folks without any ac.

The first year I lived in Breckenridge I didn't know about this tradition. I think I may have been the only person left in town.

maybe if donny gets back in in 2 years, we will all get rebates for bigger air conditioners to combat this continuing earth warming trend.
