YouTube Commercials

Forums:

I have always used adblocker and never saw a commercial on youtube. But recently they cracked down and denied use of adblocker. Now it is unwatchable. Fucking streaming commercials that you can't delete or ignore.  Today I had to sit through 3 long ass commercials before what I wanted started.    Does everyone put up with this BS?  If not, how do you get around it?

My go to for music around the house but I don't do commercials. Ever.  Everything I watch on TV is DVR'd so I can skip through ads.

Getting a little crusty in my old age but time is too short to watch that crap.

I use AdBlockPlus on my PC (Chrome browser), and I haven't had any problems with ads whatsoever.

Mark, for years I used AdBlock in conjunction with another add-on called NoScript on the Firefox browser. NoScript is the answer you seek. In fact, the problem with it is it works almost too well: you have to individually allow any script, cookie, etc. in order to allow a website to function. It will basically break a page down and asks you to individually allow permissions so that only the functional parts you want are the ones coming through.

I suggest trying it out and playing around. It takes patience but you can have it remember your permissions so that you don't have to allow it every time you visit, say, YouTube.

It's kind of scary to see how many components are built into a page to basically track your movements from site to site. You start to see Google's fingerprints in a lot of places, for instance.

there is some info on filters you can manually add to ublock origin that will apparently get around the popup found on the ublock origin subreddit.

i have not needed to implement this yet so cant comment on how well it works. youtube has been strange for me. at first, i got a white popup that allowed me to X it out and still watch the video ad free. then, the white popup said i had 3 videos left, then 2, then 1, and at this point i got a black popup that could not be closed and required disabling adblock and reloading the page to get around.

that was maybe 4 days ago, and strangely enough, around 2 days ago, all of the popups stopped for me, and ublock seems to be working fine and ive been watching videos as normal with no ads and no anti-adblock popups. i have no idea why this is and have not heard of others having this experience. im just going to roll with it and not fuck with my adblock at all as long as it seems to be working for me.

Thanks everybody. I will check out your solutions.
