ZMA- Ther Republic; Friday January 6th

Forums:

We're getting the band back together for the first time since 12-31-2008.

We're hoping to see the usual suspects, and Cheeks now that you're kind of in San Diego we'd love to have you join us too.

We'll be playing at Stacy's house and we'll probably get the music started around 7pm.

If anybody is interested (Rob PLF99-05, ATGD, Russ, Canyon) shoot me an email so I can get a head count and get you the address.

Should be a blast.  [email protected]

Turtle, Gdad and Daughter, and Shabazz, your attendance is mandatory.

Will The Reefer Canyon Band be there? yes

No Reefer Canyon.  Zack the drummer now lives in Massachusetts.  We won't have time for that Alt country stuff.  We'll be neck deep in psychedelic madness.

West coast gets all the shows.

Hoover has exaggerated the amount of time since the band last played in order to increase the hype.

good move on his part

Shappied.

I preferred when we used mysterio style hype; I believe this is from a PZ thread circa 2004:

All will succumb to the reckless ambition that is the Republic. We live and operate without fear, age or form. Chaos, magic and love are but our only allies. Our intense, fiery vision is driven and led on by the flames of Lord Henry's guitar. Never before have so many musical influences of the past, present and future been fused together with a force only comparable in the physical world to the core of a brightly burning star.
It is through the worship of the artist supreme that we have been brought together by, and risen like the mighty Phoenix from, scattered remnants of the PhilZone, and it is in the shadows of this grand phan forum that our sound shall continue to mature, remanifest and grow. So, to those skeptical readers of this thread out there that stroke their chins, cluck their tounges and blindly ask "who is this Mutherf@#kin' Republic?" I say, you shall see, for WE HAVE ARRIVED!

That is a beautiful thing, Mr. Furious.

IMG_7139.JPG

A little fan art.  I can't remember if Brent Kliss or Canyon made this one.

If the response to this reunion is less than desired we may start pursuing the "fare thee well republic" promotional model.

Thanks for the invite and I'll try my best to make it but won't know until sometime next week when I find out if and where I'll be working on friday and/or saturday. The scheduling with the company I'm working for at the moment is shittier than the normal shitty I'm used to which leaves a lot to be desired.

Sounds like a good time with good people though.

{{{there is nothing like a republic show}}}

I will be in L.A.

There will be plenty of reefer, Canyon.

I love commas

Bump!

I can't wait to hear Lord Henry machine gun sunflowers out of his guitar.  Love playing with this group.

It will be the first Republic gig with Furious E playing a Modulus.  It's gonna be pretty rad.

^I can't wait to listen to that!

Sorry that I won't make it down to your area.  Break a String!

Thanks Johnny.

If anybody breaks a string it will be me.  Guaranteed.

Here's a goofy Dark Star with Panchos drunk buddy on Harmonica from The Pizza Port 02-25-2006

That 11 sounds pretty good.

I don't think I'll be making this show as I'll be working near Cajon Pass W-F. Have a great show though, and hopefully I'll catch the next one in 2020 or so.

Do you know Kim Parsons?  I think she's working the same job as you.  Super cool fun person.  If you don't know her you should.  Biologist I think.

See ya in 2020

Break a leg, bend a string.

I should have a guild starfire 2 by the 2020 show

look what popped up on the randomizer while I was reading this thread...Republic 2.25.06\02-25-06 Pizza Port San Clemente, CA\01 - China Cat Sunflower.FLAC...don't think we are going to make the Friday show, have a great gig, hope to make the next one...

I don't know a Kim Parsons but I've been meeting a lot more biologists in the past half year than I had in the previous 19. It may be just a matter of time.

Is she on the high speed rail project? I'm not but sort of wished I hopped on it as the job security is probably pretty nice.

>>>>Is she on the high speed rail project

No.  Something by El Centro.  Solar maybe.

oh, this is Friday...

what about rain?

that's a small living room.

The Republics El Niño storm shows are ledgendary.  We had a good one at The Kraken.

I wouldn't worry too much about too many people showing up.

Ain't gonna b no damn rain on Friday, turtle.

y'all so.cal bitches probably will barely even get anything on thurs

I saw The Republic in early Jan 2008. KK introduced me to GDad who introduced me to many Zoners that night though I've forgotten who though most of the band. I was the guy who fell asleep on his feat leaning on the pinball machine. I do not remember the venue but it was in La Jolla and date was like Jan 4 or 5 or 11 or 12. I got a ride from Gdad and was very jet lagged . Good sounds and I remember a really good version of Elizaneth Reed or was it Jessica? ?

So I decided to take the player off random and listen to the whole Republic show. I am glad I did as I am once again reminded that The Republic is the best GD cover band I have yet to hear and/or see...unfortunately this "tape" suffers from a few bad cuts in the recording, but the musicianship & love of the material shine through. Even a few original songs thrown in there (way crazy in this modern GD cover band world)...Well done fellas I look forward to catching your updated sound...I even liked the Dark Star which is usually strictly a Jerry tune for me but yours was justice to these jaded ears...

How many new guitars will Stacy have this year?    J/k

Hoover email your way wednesday  Trying to make the trek south friday  The Republic !

Wow, some really great comments in here.

>>>>>I do not remember the venue but it was in La Jolla and date was like Jan 4 or 5 or 11 or 12. I got a ride from Gdad and was very jet lagged . Good sounds and I remember a really good version of Elizaneth Reed or was it Jessica? ?

That would b Reed, it was one of our stronger covers and only consistent ABB tune in rotation.

Even though he was one of our biggest supporters, Brent Kliss said it had too much testosterone for his taste.

Didn't get played last reunion so don't b surprised if it shows up friday, hopefully the transitions won't b too rough.

That La Jolla show was one of our first gigs, 2004 I think.

>>>The Republic is the best GD cover band I have yet to hear

That is some high praise, Canyon.

It was a very special project to be a part of for me, the group had great chemistry and amazing setlists.

The combined soulfulness and solid execution of Lord Henry's guitar playing and the vocals of our drummer, Dj really shine on those recordings.

>>>How many new guitars will Stacy have this year?    J/k

All kidding aside, Bart, he's got at least one new axe every time I see him.

Dude knows how to use'em too; he's a wiley vet and an exceptional host.

I don't even want to imagine my life having never known Stacy Williams.

On that note, I'm gonna get my last solo prep in for Friday and hit the hay.

Tomorrow it's off to Fresno and beyond!

Friday is going to b very special, even regardless of the music.

I hope all who can attend will and sincerely appreciate the well wishes from those who cannot.

Difficult to say when or even if this band will play again, but one thing's for sure: it would have never formed at all had it not been for the Philzone.org.

Thank U viva for trying keep that spirit alive, this one's for u!

Viva La Zone! Viva Le Republic!

Have a great time Timmy. Last time I think he just got a beautiful Fender Strat. Have a safe drive.

you know most fridays these days i'm w/ coyotte and not driving 2 miles even if dnb is playing...BUT i will have to make an exception.

hoover if you are on the b bender, can you guys please learn and play the hunter/nelson tune "where i come from"?

thanks

Thank U viva for trying keep that spirit alive, this one's for u!

Viva La Zone! Viva Le Republic!

Thank you so much, dear Mr. Furious E. It's statements like that that make me remember why I thought this would be a good thing to do.

I know you will all have the biggest fun!

>>>>>>>The Republic is the best GD cover band I have yet to hear

Thats some pretty high praise Canyon, thanks.

Always knew that Canyon guy had great taste in music.

Hoover  no email sent - I wont be able to make it  Peace and happy new year and long live The Republic - Rob

vvrepublic1617.jpg..

how's my song request coming along?

I checked out some music from The Republic and putting in my vote of confidence! Sounds awesome!

We don't want to be stepping on the Maniacs toes, and you listen to enough DNB.

But there will be a little bit of country rock n roll worked in there.

Damn, Canyon!  I love the poster.

Cool poster Canyon.

that's a poster, canyon!!!

Got to rehearse with Furious E this morning.  Was reminiscent of our old gig as Dose Amigos.  Really looking forward to tomorrow.  This will be the furthest I've ever traveled for a Republic gig.

Turtles encouraged me to stream this tomorrow.  We'll see.  Check back around 7pm PST tomorrow night and look for a link if you're so inclined.

Oooh oooh! A possible stream? I hope I remember!

Just have a blast and a wild time.

Update:

we have confirmed reports that lord Henry has been spotted in the San Diego area and some r even saying his hair is perfect.
