Climate change whistleblower alleges NOAA manipulated data to hide global warming ‘pause’
The climate change debate went nuclear Sunday over a whistleblower’s explosive allegation that the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Association manipulated data to advance a political agenda by hiding the global warming “pause.”
In an article on the Climate Etc. blog, John Bates, who retired last year as principal scientist of the National Climatic Data Center, accused the lead author of the 2015 NOAA “pausebuster” report of trying to “discredit” the hiatus through “flagrant manipulation of scientific integrity guidelines and scientific publication standards.”
In addition, Mr. Bates told the Daily [U.K.] Mail that the report’s author, former NOAA National Centers for Environmental Information director Thomas Karl, did so by “insisting on decisions and scientific choices that maximized warming and minimized documentation.”
“Gradually, in the months after [the report] came out, the evidence kept mounting that Tom Karl constantly had his ‘thumb on the scale’ — in the documentation, scientific choices, and release of datasets — in an effort to discredit the notion of a global warming hiatus and rush to time the publication of the paper to influence national and international deliberations on climate policy,” Mr. Bates said Saturday on Climate Etc.
The June 2015 report, “Possible artifacts of data biases in the recent global surface warming hiatus,” which updated the ocean temperature record, was published six months before the U.N.’s Paris summit.
The accusations sparked a fierce back-and-forth Sunday between so-called climate warmists and skeptics over the validity and implications of Mr. Bates‘ claim, which he defended on the Climate Etc. blog run by former Georgia Tech climatologist Judith Curry.

Rather, Bates claimed Karl and his group hadn’t followed NOAA protocol in “the way data was handled, documented and stored, raising issues of transparency and availability,” the AP reported, adding that Bates thought the study was rushed “to influence the December 2015 climate treaty negotiations in Paris.”

Economic Systems: The alarmists keep telling us their concern about global warming is all about man's stewardship of the environment. But we know that's not true. A United Nations official has now confirmed this.

"This is the first time in the history of mankind that we are setting ourselves the task of intentionally, within a defined period of time, to change the economic development model that has been reigning for at least 150 years, since the Industrial Revolution," she said.
Referring to a new international treaty environmentalists hope will be adopted at the Paris climate change conference later this year, she added: "This is probably the most difficult task we have ever given ourselves, which is to intentionally transform the economic development model for the first time in human history."
The only economic model in the last 150 years that has ever worked at all is capitalism. The evidence is prima facie: From a feudal order that lasted a thousand years, produced zero growth and kept workdays long and lifespans short, the countries that have embraced free-market capitalism have enjoyed a system in which output has increased 70-fold, work days have been halved and lifespans doubled.

There are many ways to interpret that paragraph that is quoted in the editorial that you shared.
Interesting to see the writer's take.
Without context, I'm assuming that the Climate Change people are connecting the Industrial Revolution to Present as a fossil-based economic system, rather than capitalism itself.
Maybe I should add that Pure Capitalism surely does not exist in the real world. Dems and Repubs have a way of messing with it in either direction...

First, CO2 does not cause the planet to warm. A warming planet causes a rise in CO2, This is mostly due to the fact that the ocean releases gas as it warms.
That is the same reason people use water chillers in hydro to increase the DO in the water.
The Co2 levels chase temp by 7-800 years. That is because water has a very high specific heat , meaning it takes a lot of energy to heat water.
Global temps change due to solar cycles, bottom line.
There may be other problems with cheap energy, CO, Nox, ect. But CO2 is not one of them. CO2 is the building block of life.
On a geological scale the level of CO2 in the atmosphere is alarmingly low. We have entered ice ages with co2 in the 900 ppm's
I find if funny that people are so sure of global warming and lack even a 5th grade understanding of science. I have been calling people out on this for years.
I studied climate science in college and have seen all the raw data.
Science does not work by consensus. If 99/100 scientist say something is true does not make it so. The 100th one is smarter. There is a think called the scientific method. Ever heard of it?
You really need to think about it when someone says "the debate is over" When you hear that you have left the realm of science and entered the realm of propaganda.

It is the lie that was big enough and told over and over enough that you believed it. You not only bought it, you turned into your religion. Climate has never remained constant.
When we are done with an ice age, we have an inter-glacial period. and the earth warms for awhile (10-20 thousand years) We then cool and have an ice age for (100,000 years or so)
CO2 has been all over the place through out the history of the earth and has not changed that basic pattern. Plants grow best at 2000 ppm, We are a little over 400 now.

But to think that manmade CO2 production is warming the planet is just stupidity. These models have been proven fake and any 7th grade science student knows that when you add multiple variables to any experiments, they are doomed fromm the start based on flawed science.

Let me preface this by noting that this is not a loaded question:
So, if none of the 99 scientists can be convinced by the 1, isn't there a problem about #1's ability to prove the merits of #1's findings; to the point that other Scientists who presumably passed 5th and/or 7th grade science tests would be inclined to agree with #1 hypothesis? I'm assuming that this has not gotten to the "theory" stage, but I could be wrong (I always sucked at Science, other than beginning physics, which seemed in tune with common sense).
PS: I appreciate that this has turned into an actual discussion.
