Further Festival, The Other Ones, Irvine Meadows, Irvine, CA 7/22/1998

Forums:

My first trip to California happened overnight on a drive from Las Vegas to Los Angeles, to get to this show at Irvine Meadows. Irvine Meadows was the home for 15 Grateful Dead shows, of which I had numerous tapes in my show collection. We drove and parked next to a seven eleven near the beach at Santa Monica, and I probably slept 2 hours before the store manager or owner came out yelling. Apparently hippies sleeping next to his dumpster wasn't something he wanted his customers to see.

I didn't have the funds to get into the show, but I worked the lot all day, and I did stop and listen when the weirdest show moment on the tour happened: when Dennis McNeil, the operatic tenor came out to join the band & sing "Fields of Athenry". yeah: what a weird but novel moment in the show.

My memories are pretty much done on this one: slept two hours on the concrete next to dumpster after driving from Vegas, worked the lot all day, heard a weird novel song, and then left for the tour ending weekend at Shoreline.

This show is a great listen, there's a sbd out there.
