My memory doesn't allow me to remember specifics about the drive from Columbus to Michigan, but I do remember that my our rider Tennessee wasn't capable of driving after shows, despite all his protests that he could, and I'm pretty sure he got his feelings hurt when we forbid him from doing so, so we could live. Brian, the driver I paid to take me to Scranton, was still on board, caught up in the moment, going show to show, but what a ragged mess we were becoming. His daily mountain dew fix and his desire to listen to rap music was killing me, but I couldn't ditch him-he was my puppy. Tennessee actually used the rap music as an excuse to go elsewhere, so we were three riders for the MI show.

On the way to the venue we drove through downtown Detroit, my first time there, and honestly, it was a hell scape. It's much nicer now, and we didn't stop, but continued to Pine Knob. I was pretty stoked to see a show at Pine Knob, as I had some choice shows from the 1991 summer tour from there. Prior to the show, I didn't do illegal sales in the lot, but literally got trash bags and collected beer bottles all day, and then turned them, making quick trips to the grocery store. I think we made a shit ton of cash, and the lot was clean!

The show itself hit me in all the right places. Playing In the Band>Hell in a Bucket was everything I wanted/needed to dance, and it rocked. Scarlet Begonias with a searing solo from Kimock? Yes please. THe psychedelic Birdsong? OF COURSE.

But believe it or not, I don't think anyone WASN'T dancing for the Rainbows>Franklins Tower>Drumz/Space>Banyan>Playing in the Band. My driver Brian danced like a man possessed to Franklin's, as if it was his favorite song, but honestly it was the first time he'd heard it-its just the vibe was infectious.

I felt the love at this show, and you know, there was no sight of it fading away. After this show, we drove the 5 hours straight to Deer creek, spent the night in a cornfield campground waiting for the show.

Here's a youtube clip from Hell in a Bucket, you can see the audience eating it up:
