I had my money on the Raiders to sneak in and take it all based on their way of coming together at the end of games. Teams that win games where they've been beaten throughout the game have a nasty mojo and are the toughest to finish, but so much of that was coming from Carr.
They still might have that mojo, but even if McGloin plays well I think it will be hard for them to beat Belichick & Brady in New England without Carr. But I respect that rare mojo so I think if they can win their first playoff game their confidence will soar and they still might have a chance against the Pats.
I usually go for the team with the best defense. This year it looks like KC is the only team in either conference with a shutdown D, and I think people are overlooking them the same way people overlooked Seattle three years ago and Denver to a lesser degree last year.
With Alex Smith they win games the same way the 2011 49ers with Alex won - offense controls field position, doesn't fuck anything up, scores just enough and their defense forces a couple of mistakes & generally controls things and they win close, low scoring games.
If it hadn't of been for a fucking loser who couldn't field two punts that Niners team would have gone to & very possibly won the SB in '11. Considering that Smith is better now and the Chiefs have better offensive weapons than that 49ers team did, that defense first/offense don't fuck it up style could work out well for them this year.
Ultimately I think whoever goes to the SB from the AFC will win the whole thing.
