Chris Sale to Sox!

Forums:

Moncado a stud, but this is a great deal

Giving up much less than I thought it would take to get Sale - I think the Red Sox pulled off a really good deal. Sure Moncada is a very highly thought of prospect - but if Price can come back around - the Red Sox will have a 1-2-3 punch like no one else in the AL next year.

Happy that they also picked up a mid-reliever - Thornburg; along with gold-gloved first baseman Moreland.

Panda has been sighted and this time the sox organization doesn't have to photoshop his picture.

Will miss Koji though.

Sale>Price>Porcillo>Pomeranz>ERod with Steven Wright as the 6th starter and Henry Owens is number 7. Five of top seven starters are lefty's. AL EAST better have some good right handed hitters to face these lefty's.

Power arms in bullpen to Joe Kelly, Carson Smith, Brandon Workman & Craig Kimbrel. Plus Thornburg.

Blake Swihart & Andrew Benintendi will step up to the next level. Swihart needs to go back to catcher unless Benintendi gets hurt for the season in LF. Young platooning in LF.

Hanley at DH a bunch unless Mookie, Xander, Jackie or Andrew needs a day off from the field but coach wants there bat in lineup still. Hanley can play first base on those days.

Lost tazawa...he blows his arm out every year., but he gave us alot of innings in past 3-4 yrs....signed workman today to one year deal

Look at the Giants...they got themselves a closer.  That should change the look of their pen in a meaningful way.  Gotta be impressed with the winters they are having.  Also...sorry about that 9th inning, that was brutal for you guys, but with this guy, that ain't going to happen again so there's that.

I'm really relieved at the Davis signing for The World Champions.  Didn't think a closer of his ilk was coming our way.  Fingers crossed he can stay healthy because he's the most important piece, now, in their bullpen.

It's crazy what the Yankees did...in giving us a rental, obtaining a future superstar and then grabbing that rental back...all in a single bound.

They have rebuilt w/out every seeing the second division..pretty impressive.  The Cubs didn't have a place for Torres though, he was as blocked as a player can be in that organization.  Still hurts to see a talent like that go though, but it all worked out so Theo is a god in Chicago and will be for as long as there is a Chicago.

I don't harbor any bad feeling for Chapman's comments criticizing Maddon's moves either because Maddon did some pretty itchy stuff in those last few games.  He knows more about baseball in his left pinky fingernail that I will ever know it my whole being but he's fortunate his players bailed him out of what would have been a pretty nasty legacy--although he deserves some credit for that biblical 10th inning because those are his players.  I'm huge fan of his moves, even those that don't work out, but he took a few years off our lives in those last two.  Thank the baseball gods it worked out the way it was supposed to but fuck...game 7 almost killed us.

Anyway...glad to see the folder made it to viva!

Edwin Encarnacion and the Indians agree to 3 years at $60M.

Pretty big singing for those guys--HUGE upgrade over Napoli.

Beware, American League.

Gonna be a 2 team race in the AL this yr.   Cleveland just joined you Boston.

Yup, and i have no idea why boston wasnt going after him hard...i did see sox mentioned as one of the teams in the encarcion running in the natl papers lately, but the boston papers and reporters had them out before we got Sale....

Sox need to replace over 30 homers, 100 rbi s , and a .300 bat...i dont think mitch moreland was that move, but maybe it is...he ll move to first, hanley to dh..(mostly), id blv, and who knows, maybe theyre banking on a slim Panda to provide a lift.

Either way, they shouldnt have trbl generating runs...but, thats still a huge bat to replace. Id like to see them make one more move....

Oh, and adios bucholtz....someday hpfly we ll all find out the root of your inconsistancy. I for one, have said privatly for years, that he s a dope fiend...score a good batch...pitch fine...taking forever, but fine...no dope, or a weak batch?...one inning, and a shower....lol

Makes sense to me...
