I think I need a tablet.

Forums:

But I have no clue what to get. I just need to do emails, Viva and my fantasy baseball on it while I am out of town. I don't do apple products and am leary of the amazon fire thing.

So, any tips or suggestions?

Tablets are certainly convenient. I'm an apple person and don't know about the others but wish you luck in easily finding one.

It's obvious that only a very few of us even look anywhere other than OS.  I gave this a try and will give it another couple days.

Thanks for trying, Mark. I believe that people don't look in folders other than O.S. because people don't use them. I could be wrong.

I check the dates every day. If nothing new, I go to OS.

That's what I do, too, and it works.

I Have had a Samsung Galaxy Tablet since 2016 It's Awesome takes good pics too popped in a 128 memory card to grab Charlie Millers stuff Zone all the time on it made the mistake of buying the smaller one not enough back up memory, gave it to my kid then got the real one. Use it every day my modèle is Galaxy Tab A

SM-T510

Thanks Tommy!

Ever heard of a brand called Chuwi?

New to me. Is it sounding good to you, Mark?

No. Read the reviews and moved on.

Mark, you might want to look at Chromebooks that have a touch screen. They're laptops, but some of them open up all the way and you can just use them as a tablet. Samsung makes some that cost about $300-400. Also, because they use Chrome OS, viruses aren't a problem.

Thanks Mike. I will check that out.

So what'd you decide on, Mark?

Realized that I needed more than a tablet. Bought this from Woot.com. Factory reconditioned.

Congratulations, Mark.

That is quite a bit more than just a tablet, and it looks like a powerful machine for the price.

It is. Really nice. The only major drawback is that it came with Windows 11. Had to install win 10 and that is a little better but so much worse than win 7.  Actually, I really liked win 98 second edition. You could change anything you wanted and they did not shove all this crap up your ass. Every one since then has gotten a little worse but this leap is horrific. And you can't turn most of this shit off. I disabled my mic but who knows what evil that cortana bitch is up to.

Why can't an op system just be there?

Very frustrated.

I was going to say that the only bad thing about the laptop is it runs Windows, but I uncharacteristically kept my trap shut for some strange reason.

Have you ever looked into Linux, Mark? I've been running Kubuntu for about 10 years now, and love it. It's free, highly secure, very customizable, and has a much smaller system resource footprint than Microsoft's evil OS. Also, if you want to try it before you install it you can run it live from a USB drive.

I am interested Mike.  Do you have a link or should I just google and try and find it that way?

Linux comes in many flavors, Mark, and the one I'm partial to is named Kubuntu.

If you have an old computer that you're not using anymore, you might want to install a copy on it and then use that as a learning environment before installing it on your new laptop.

Also, now that I'm thinking about it, I'm not sure how Linux would deal with the touchscreen on your new laptop. I'm not saying it woudn't be able to handle it; I just don't have any experience with that myself.

Thanks Mike. I'll check it out.
