Bottom Line NYC

Forums:

A venue left out....who what when where.....I was an Ironworker at the time, renovating the NYU building above it....crazy days indeed

Many good times there.

David Bromberg Band many times

George Thorogood

Louden Wainwright III

Saw some great shows there, but I don't romanticize the place.  Overcrowded.  Rude staff.  That obese prick who took cash from folks on the street @ sold-out shows, worsening the overcrowding.

Best thing I saw there was Richard Thompson Band with Marti Jones (Fing sublime!) opening.

I saw Robert Hunter play there in December 83, I think. I had a good time, but like Bluest said, it wasn't the kindest place to see a show...

Jerry (with John Lennon in the audience)
Springsteen
Papa John Creech (did a sweet Over the Rainbow, people were crying)

Papa John Creech with 'early' Starship was fun live

Great story, (for me anyway) 4/8/75 my first solo driving trip into NYC. Merl & Jerry were playing the Bottom Line. Paid to park, left my keys with the guy and went onto line for standing room only tickets which were all that was left. I got the last ticket for the show and was seated at Jerry's feet. It was awesome for me and an awesome show.It was the early show,I did not have enough sense to stick around to try to get a ticket for the late show. When I went to pick up my car there it sat alone in the parking area, window rolled down and key in the ignition. It was my lucky day twice, saw the show and still had a car!

Sometimes the early show ...was confusing....then you Know you saw a show....but if you sat on the curb after being told to leave to empty the venue with no ticket for the late show and they said walk back in.....Confusing....ohhh I can just walk back in...

Was only there once for David Bromberg Band 1995. Great time.

I use to go all the time.

Too many shows to list

Great Venue

I seem to remember that Bromberg's band didn't all fit on the stage. Horns on the stairs going to the stage?  Also the first show i saw after Jerry died.  Brought me out of a funk.  Love me some Bromberg

I used to go see Bromberg a lot. Always a good show.

Haven't seen him in years. Saw him open for Dickey Betts and Great Southern at the Capitol theater, NJ. long time ago.

Dickey came out all fucked up and was booed off the stage within 15 minutes.

People were yelling bring back Bromberg.

^IMO, def. still worth going to see Bromberg if he's playing near you. I go every chance I get. The guy still brings it every night, whether it's the big band, the Quartet or even just him & an acoustic guitar.

I wonder if there's a source for old Bromberg live recordings. I had some on cassette. They must be in a box somewhere.

I'd love to find a good source for his old live stuff. I used to have a nice FM recording of the Bottom Line show I went to. I wish I could find that one.

Love these 2 videos from the Capitol Theatre in Passaic. Great stuff here.

I know if you find a copy of his double live album The Lattle you play till    is well worth keeping if in good shape worth a few dollars.

I saw him during the summer and he was still great.

was an Ironworker at the time< what local?

I've heard that Bart. I only have it on CD, but it's an excellent album.

Some of Bromberg's songs (and covers) are just flat out funny, like Loaded & Laid. A friend of mine saw him open for Hot Tuna in the '70's. He didn't know who he was at the time & told me he thought he was some kind of comedian who played guitar.
