Calderone Concert Hall Hempstead NY

Forums:

Smoked with Jerry between early and late show......he was cool.....

Which show Captain?

2/14/81:

My friend and I met Steve Parish very early before the show.

Instead of standing by ourselves in the cold, he invited us in to sit and hang by ourselves first row.

No one in the hall. Jerry comes out and tunes up, grabs a doob I threw at his feet, light it and jams a solo instrumental version of Sugaree

Yeah, he was very cool!

Oh hell .... think I saw them all...lived right down the road....early and late shows

Nice!

I was from Seaford and only went to the late show 2/29/80 & the 2/14/81

Thanks for posting back Captain; I wasn't sure anyone can see what I am writing.

(I'll try decaf next time)

Peace

I believe the venue closed way before my concert going days but Jerry played here the day I was born in 1977, less than 25 miles away.

Always thought that was a pretty neat coincidence.

Calderone in Hempstead was an old movie theater.....Prentenders was actually an off the charts show...Bobby and the Midnights ....were actually brilliant to fill in the gaps till Jerry came around again

That is neat Across

I saw Johnny Winter & Alvin Lee's Ten Years Later their too.

I think its a church now.

One of my first shows was there. Think it was Kingfish.

before my time but that place was legend

Its good its before your time....that just means I'm getting older....

Yes....its a church....take from that what you want lol

Saw Patti Smith there

Saw her in with the Dead in Amherst 79 I think ....drove up with no tickets....jumped the black wrought iron fence as there were zero tickets available.....remember It Looks Like Rain when it started raining with all the green promo frisbees flying around....I had the giggles at that point

I used to live in West Hempstead.

*toke*

My sister still does.....

Saw my first JGB shows there 2/29/80 early & late shows. Promontory Rider is a song I been listening to a lot lately. Was way cool seeing Hunter & Jerry on stage together "Step up"

In the mid-eighties, I managed and engineered at a 48 Track Recording Studio in West Hempstead.

It was in a closed down discotheque attached to the Hotel at the West Hempstead train station.

At the time, it was very sketchy; even the meanest toughest hair metal bands were afraid of that hood.

Weirdest recording session there was with Steve Lawrence and Eydie Gorme.

They were very nice.

In 2015 the building was known as Gloria Eve Performing Arts Foundation.
