David Nelson Band, Hawaii Hana Hou Tour, Big Island, March 2024

Forums:

Figured that since I couldn't afford to make the trip this time -- breaking my 10-year attendance streak -- I'd start a new thread just for these Big Island shows.

holy shit, is barry sless SITTING????

Jay Lane too! And David Nelson! You can't see Mookie in this shot but I bet he is too!

Thank God Pete is standing and rocking out...

how long has Nelson been sitting, been a while since I've seen him in 3d

At least a couple of years. I have photos of him standing in Hawaii in March of 2020, just before the pandemic shut everything down. He was still standing at a few outdoor shows in the summer of 2021. All my photos show him sitting starting in 2022 through the present.

yep, David has been sitting at shows for about 2 years

he'll be 81 on June 12

Barry sits to play the pedal steel.

thanks gentlemen

It's not the same without you, Mr. Fish!

Hear that!

thx for the update

looking forward to a Wiltsie/Timmy stream...

 Mahalo in advance

is that even a stage?

had to work late, just catching up and tuning in.

Barry broke a string and there's a little down time while it gets replaced

my dog has no nose...

Started listening a few minutes ago, beautiful raunchy "string changing music". Crystal clear.

A lovely swirling jam pot.

Slinky.

technical problems with the audio stream tonight from The Eleven...

Wiltsie informed us in Mixlr Chat that the opener (Inglis & Sless) wouldn't be broadcast, and that they hope to have everything straightened out by the time that DNB hits the stage

https://dswiltsie.mixlr.com/events/3236661

Thanks GaryFish.. was wondering ...

coming in loud and clear now... Inglis-Sless "and frends" I guess... there's a drummer and sounds like Mookie on keys now

new link: https://dswiltsie.mixlr.com/events/3236679

Mr. G.Fish, are the links above off the air now?

Ok, I'm hearing between set music. Or now, nothing again.

Yes, all of the above links are now inactive. The opener ended less than 5 minutes ago.

The DNB stream will likely be on yet a different link, and I'd guess it might begin about 30 to 45 minutes from now.

Thanks for the update.

By the time the Mixlr audio stream finally came on, we only got to hear the end of Bertha, then Days Between, and they finished with a Hawaiian song I didn't recognize.

According to Mark D -- my "informant" at the show -- the opening band we at home heard for those 2+ songs consisted of Stephen Inglis (slack-key guitar & vocals), Barry Sless (pedal steel), and the rest of DNB except David Nelson.

Also, Mark texted me that it's raining at The Eleven... not a heavy rain, but more like a steady mist to light rain.

Mark D, our man on the scene.

I remember The Eleven. Such a beautiful place. It must be pretty wet for people standing/sitting around waiting.

Thanks, Zooey, see you there.

photo texted to me by Mark D about 90 minutes ago (when the opener was onstage) from the venue -- The Eleven, near Captain Cook, Big Island

DNB opener_The Eleven, Captain Cook, Big Island_03-09-2024_Mark D photo.jpg

Guessing the rain may be contributing to the static I'm hearing?

Oh it cut out!   edit: got it back

Really solid second set. It helped that it wasn't really raining anymore.

We got drenched. And a little muddy on the way out. What we do for this band!

Hoping for a drier tomorrow.

Froggy, I see you in the photo above... you're wearing a blue poncho just left of the center of the pic... and maybe that's your man to your left?

Listening to Wiltsie's audio streams these past two nights have made it tolerable for me to be on couch tour... but I sure am missing my #1 band and all my freaky friends this time.

You guys coming up to Humboldt for the 2 Mateel shows in early April?

photos of drenched freaky friends please!

Hope you guys get a mother natures drone show tomorrow night...

there is no daylight savings time nonsense in HI...

opener is playing now (Sless & Inglis), but Wiltsie is working through some technical problems with the audio stream

https//dswiltsie.mixlr.com/events/3240325

Ship of Fools being played now... sounds like technical issues might be largely resolved

Mookie and Jay have joined them onstage

and now, Pete Sears just added to the group

Lazy River Road was so beautifully played...

set-closer... Bird Song !!!!

one of the best opening acts I've heard in quite a while... not surprising since 80% of the group was DNB members at the end of their set, lol

DNB started about 12 minutes ago

opened with Garden of Eden > Last Time > Garden of Eden

https://dswiltsie.mixlr.com/events/3240430

My best buddy Mark D is at the venue and agreed to let me post these photos from tonight's show... they were all taken well over an hour ago, when it was still daylight.

Apparently this website will only let me upload a single photo in each post... so there will be a series of these in individual posts. Here goes...

Yay!

I love everybody I know...

Lazy River Road was so beautifully played... <<< I Love That Song !

Pete's the odd man out now.

Jealous of it all.   Looks amazing.   Hope the tapes live on the archive.

Made it home OK. Great tour. If a little wet at times.

Zang, I think you mean envious?
